Book The Christology of M M Thomas

Download or read book The Christology of M M Thomas written by Woonjo Park and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis is an attempt to explore M. M. Thomas's theological framework with a view towards gaining a better understanding of Thomas's Christology. First, I briefly considered the need for a concrete Christology today, the Indian context, and the life of M. M. Thomas. Then, taking the Indian context and the life of Thomas into consideration, I recognized how Thomas relates the meaning of Christ to the reality of Indian society in his time. The next subject examined Thomas's interaction with Indian Christian and non-Christian thinkers on the person of Christ. This helped me more clearly discern the outline of Thomas's theology. The final subject was Thomas's view of the uniqueness of Jesus Christ, who in his view transforms the world toward the realization of "New Humanity." With these analytic methods, I turned to my critical evaluation of Thomas's contribution. I examined the meaning of the "New Humanity" for Thomas, and how Thomas formulated his own theology with the idea of New Humanity, in relation to the former subjects. On my evaluation of Thomas's contribution, I could discern Thomas's theological framework which can facilitate more communication of the gospel with the contemporary world while emphasizing the centrality of Christ. Moreover, I could comprehend how he developed an integral relationship between his concern for communication and the theological task of the church's mission.

Book excerpt: An introduction to the spiritual legacy of Thomas Merton Thomas Merton was a Trappist monk and one of the most influential spiritual figures of the 20th century. His writing on contemplation, monastic life, mysticism, poetry, and social issues have influenced generations and his legacy of interfaith understanding and social justice endures to this day. Thomas Merton: An Introduction to His Life, Teachings, and Practices offers an exploration of Merton as a monk, as a writer, and as a human being. Author Jon M. Sweeney delves into Merton’s life and ideas with an appreciation for his work and a deep understanding of the spiritual depth that it contains. Thomas Merton offers a unique view of the popular and sometimes controversial monk, braiding together his thoughts and practices with the reality of his life to create a full portrait of a pivotal figure. The Merton revealed in its pages is a source of inspiration and insight for those wrestling with questions of faith and spirituality. At its core, the book is about the search for wholeness—a search Merton undertook himself throughout his lifetime and one readers can also embark on as they draw inspiration and guidance from his life.

Book Wrestling with God in Context

Download or read book Wrestling with God in Context written by M. P. Joseph and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2018-12-01 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shoki Coe was among the first to speak of "contextualization" in theology. Coe argued that theology is not a reiteration of past formulas or doctrines but a response to the self-disclosing initiative of the living God in history and human experience. Yet he remains little known outside his native Taiwan. Wresting with God in Context introduces Coe's work and social vision and evaluates his contributions to the field of missiology and ecclesiology. Eager to offer a creative and critical witness to Christian faith, Coe worked tirelessly to liberate theology from its Western captivity and shaped a generation of theological reflection on God, culture, and history. For thousands of students and church members around the world, Shoki Coe was the spiritual father that guided their contextual theological pursuit to the living reality of God. In order to reflect on his legacy, the chapters in this volume--including original essays from Stephen Bevans, Dwight Hopkins, and Enrique Dussel--tackle the critical, methodological issues related to doing theology, reading the Scriptures, and being the church.
