Book Freshwater Crayfish Aquaculture in North America Europe and Australia

Download or read book Freshwater Crayfish Aquaculture in North America Europe and Australia written by Jay Huner and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-04-25 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Freshwater Crayfish Aquaculture in North America, Europe, and Australia is the first text to summarize the methods of culture for the eight most important crayfish species in the world. Methods developed to culture crayfishes around the world differ significantly, and this book enables readers to develop workable strategies for cultivating different crayfish species in specific environments. Huner and associate authors cover the following topics in detail: methods of crayfish culture crayfish diseases crayfish processing economics of crayfish culture Each of the the three major crayfish industries are well-represented in this new book and special attention is given to the specific needs and accomplishments of each area, which is beneficial to producers in other countries. For example, while hatching technology has been important in Australia and Europe, it hasn?t yet been applied to any degree in North America. At the same time, North America has developed a major crayfish processing industry. Disease problems have resulted in more emphasis on that subject in Europe and yet it is vital to all involved in crayfish aquaculture. Businessmen, farmers, scientists, laymen, or students need to be exposed to the methods and problems associated with crayfish production in different parts of the world if they are to be successful in any crayfish project, whether it be research- or profit-oriented. Freshwater Crayfish Aquaculture in North America, Europe, and Australia is intended to provide all readers with one source of information on the subject of freshwater crayfish aquaculture. Professional staff, advanced students, and extension personnel will find the entire text beneficial. Those in corporate organizations and the agriculture field, especially decisionmakersin operations, will find the methods, markets, and financial considerations in this book a helpful guide.

This book was released on 1974 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study then is two fold. My first and primary objective is to report my findings on the life cycle of O. r. rusticus in northern Kentucky and to compare its life cycle with that of O.r. rusticus at Doe Run. Secondly, an attempt is made to survey all previously published life cycles of other species of Orconectes. The investigation described was begun in the summer of 1972 and continued through the summer of 1973 to obtain sufficient data for a year's growth and reproductive periods.

Book Biology of the Crayfish Orconectes Causeyi and Its Use for Control of Aquatic Weeds in Trout Lakes

Download or read book Biology of the Crayfish Orconectes Causeyi and Its Use for Control of Aquatic Weeds in Trout Lakes written by Jack L. Dean and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sumerged aquatic plants limit the suitability for trout management of many shallow lakes in the Southwest. Control of these weeds has been achieved by the introduced crayfish Orconectes causeyi. The life history, ecology, and weed-control activities of the crayfish are discussed. Abundant crayfish populations occur over a wide range of elevations in permanent well-oxygenated ponds, lakes and streams where predaceous warm-water fishes are scarce. Weed control is proportional to the crayfish population and proximity of a rocky substrate which is preferred habitat. This crayfish is a tertiary burrower establishing relatively shallow burrows for hibernation and egg hatching periods. It has not damaged dams or irrigation ditches and has been compatible with local agriculture.

Book Management of Freshwater Biodiversity

Download or read book Management of Freshwater Biodiversity written by Julian Reynolds and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-11-10 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrating research into freshwater biodiversity and the role of keystone species, this fascinating book presents freshwater crayfish as representatives of human-exacerbated threats to biodiversity and conservation. It uses examples from these and other large decapod invertebrates to explore how communities function and are controlled, alongside the implications of human demands and conflicts over limited resources, notably the severe impacts on biodiversity. The discussion is structured around three key topics – the present situation of crayfish in world freshwater ecosystems, the applications of science to conservation management and knowledge transfer for successful crayfish management. It outlines the historic exploitation of crayfish, addressing the problems caused by invasive alien forms and explaining the importance of correct identification when dealing with conservation issues. Offering a global perspective on freshwater systems, the book ultimately highlights how the conservation of such large and long-lived species will help protect ecosystem quality in the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Invertebrate Embryology and Reproduction deals with the practical and theoretical objectives of the descriptive embryology of invertebrates, along with discussions on reproduction in these groups of animals. It explains several morphological and anatomical expressions in the field and covers the embryology of invertebrate animals, starting from the Protozoa, to the Echinodermata, the Protochordate and Tunicates. These groups include economically important aquatic invertebrates, such as crustaceans, as well as medically important invertebrates and economic arthropods. Each chapter is preceded by the taxonomy of the discussed phylum and/or the species to enable the reader to locate the systematic position. - Covers phylum definition, general characteristics, classification, reproduction, agametic reproduction, gametic reproduction, spawning, fertilization, development and embryogenesis - Includes recent findings in the area, along with detailed figures and photos that illustrate important concepts - Brings together difficult-to-obtain research data from the field, not only in Egyptian libraries, but globally, and previously only found through specialized references not widely available - Clarifies descriptions with striking photos and electron microscopical studies of different species
