Book The Lady Believed To Be From England

Download or read book The Lady Believed To Be From England written by Patrick Emre and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-08-19 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lady Believed to be from England is a dramatic story set in the stunningly beautiful island of Cyprus. More than just another murder mystery, with some dodgy dealings perpetrated by the Cyprus Judiciary – Firstly that authority’s failure to recognise a sinister piece of corruption, collusion, and treachery under its nose. – Eventually that same authority’s realisation of the hurt felt by those who were the innocent victims. It tells that story of a Cyprus born lady so much loved by all who meet her, and how against all odds, she has pulled about her a great sense, and an even greater ability to help others to hold up their heads. There is much to know about her and her family from her late husband, and those of her second husband. It was this larger than life fellow who recognised the seeds of greatness within her and set about culturing these until they blossomed into an even more marvellous bloom than he had perceived. There are many sides to learn of this vibrant man who laughs when others might cry and creates an aura around him which others want to share. Their blissful life together appears to be something of Utopian proportions and seemed untouchable. However their love for each other and life in general is about to be shrouded in the darkest clouds containing a mixture of criminal injury, corruption, and authoritarian negligence. Now the great resolve they had always previously displayed would be tested to the utmost. Throughout this book there are several digressions which should be thoroughly enjoyed. These are not simply meant as ‘space fillers’ but are solely intended to provide the reader with an insight into the lives of the families and characters. I am sure you will find it interesting and at times very amusing. I must thank my good friend Maggie Muir for her assistance in piecing the story together, and my darling wife who patiently listened for twenty years of promises that one day I’d write a book.

Book excerpt: "Everyone who has raved about Elizabeth Chadwick as an author of historical novels is right."—Devourer of Books From New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Chadwick comes a gripping, never-before-told, medieval battle of the sexes that sheds light on one of medieval royalty's most fascinating women—Queen Matilda. 1135, England: Matilda, daughter of Henry I, knows that there are those who will not accept her as England's queen when her father dies. But the men who support her rival, and cousin, Stephen do not know the iron will that drives her. She will win her inheritance against all odds, and despite all men. Adeliza, Henry's widowed queen and Matilda's stepmother, is now married to a warrior who is fighting to keep Matilda off the throne. But Adeliza knows that Britain's crown belongs to a woman this time. Both women will stand and fight for what they know is right for England's royalty. But for Matilda, pride comes before a fall. And for Adeliza, even the deepest love is no proof against fate. Written with great historical accuracy, Lady of the English is a captivating novel of Medieval England. Book The Book of the City of Ladies

Download or read book The Book of the City of Ladies written by Christine Pizan and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 1999-06-09 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christine de Pizan (c.1364-1430) was France's first professional woman of letters. Her pioneering Book of the City of Ladies begins when, feeling frustrated and miserable after reading a male writer's tirade against women, Christine has a dreamlike vision where three virtues - Reason, Rectitude and Justice - appear to correct this view. They instruct her to build an allegorical city in which womankind can be defended against slander, its walls and towers constructed from examples of female achievement both from her own day and the past: ranging from warriors, inventors and scholars to prophetesses, artists and saints. Christine de Pizan's spirited defence of her sex was unique for its direct confrontation of the misogyny of her day, and offers a telling insight into the position of women in medieval culture. THE CITY OF LADIES provides positive images of women, ranging from warriors and inventors, scholars to prophetesses, and artists to saints. The book also offers a fascinating insight into the debates and controversies about the position of women in medieval culture.
