Book The Kinetics of the Elution of Gold from Activated Carbon by the Zadra Method

Download or read book The Kinetics of the Elution of Gold from Activated Carbon by the Zadra Method written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The kinetic model developed previously for the elution of aurocyanide from activated carbon is shown to successfully predict the efficiency of gold elution by the Zadra procedure. Laboratory-scale data, which were obtained from elutions involving fixed-bed columns and gold extraction in a simulated electrowinning cell, are interpreted in terms of the model. Several chemical influences on the efficiency of the Zadra elution process that have hitherto not received attention, are also discussed. The washing of loaded carbon with acid prior to elution and the decomposition of cyanide during elution are shown to have deleterious effects on the elution rate under certain conditions. It is suggested that the employment of concentrations of cyanide that are lower by a factor of ten (about 0.05 per cent NaCN, ie, 0.01 M) than those used in typical Zadra operations (about 0.5 per cent NaCN, ie, 0.1 M) would not noticeably affect the elution kinetics, but would reduce reagent consumption significantly. However, the use of higher concentrations of cyanide is necessary if washing with hot acid is extensive.

Book The Kinetics of the Elution of Gold from Activated Carbon

Download or read book The Kinetics of the Elution of Gold from Activated Carbon written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of the rate of elution of aurocyanide from activated carbon in small laboratory reactors is reported. The effects of various operating parameters such as the concentrations of cyanide, hydroxide, and gold in the eluant, the temperature, and the flowrate of the eluant on the rate were investigated. A semi-empirical kinetic model, which was previously developed for the adsorption of gold on to activated carbon, is shown also to describe quantitatively the kinetics of elution. This model is extended to the description of the rate of elution of carbon from fixed bed columns by the Zadra elution procedure. The electrowinning of gold in closed circuit with the elution column is included as part of the model. The use of the model in the prediction and optimization of the performance of actual elution plants is also described.

Book The Absorption of Gold Cyanide Onto Activated Carbon 1 The Kinetics of Absorption from Pulps

Download or read book The Absorption of Gold Cyanide Onto Activated Carbon 1 The Kinetics of Absorption from Pulps written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An account is given of the development of a relatively simple model that describes the kinetics of the absorption of gold cyanide on activated carbon. The model is based on the treatment of the carbon-solution interface as a homogeneous boundary across which gold is transported at a rate determined by the rate of mass transport to and from the interface. Rate equations derived from this model describe the results of various kinetic experiments under continuous or batch conditions in the laboratory and on operating pilot and full-scale plants.

Book The Absorption of Gold Cyanide Onto Activated Carbon 2 Application of the Kinetic Model to Multistage Absorption Circuits

Download or read book The Absorption of Gold Cyanide Onto Activated Carbon 2 Application of the Kinetic Model to Multistage Absorption Circuits written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A relatively simple rate equation for the kinetics of the absorption of gold from cyanide solutions onto activated carbon was used as the basis in the development of a model for multistage carbon-in-pulp and carbon-in-leach absorption circuits. The model was used in the prediction of both the steady-state and the transient behaviour of the absorption process, and the results were found to be in reasonable agreement with those observed in an extended pilot-plant campaign. A number of practical implications of the model are discussed, and an assessment is made of the economic consequences of the various process options available for the design of a carbon-in-pulp plant.

Book Au gold Recovery Using an Activated Carbon Column

Download or read book Au gold Recovery Using an Activated Carbon Column written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The feasibility of a process involving the use of activated carbon in a multi-stage column (NIMCIX contactor) for the recovery of gold from unclarified pregnant solutions was investigated on pilot-plant scale. It was found that satisfactory extractions, corresponding to a recovery of 99,6 per cent, can be achieved with an average gold concentration of 0,0077 p.p.m. in the barren solutions from a feed averaging 1,89 p.p.m. The results show that excessive loading of CaCO3 can be prevented by lowering of the pH of the feed to about 7,6. This obviates the need for the carbon to be treated with hydrochloric acid. The gold was eluted from the carbon by the Zadra procedure. The operating conditions of the elution and electrowinning circuits are reported, and the elution of the gold and other metals is discussed. The reactivation of the carbon, which was carried out in a vibrating-deck kiln, is described, and the effects of this reactivation on the activity of the carbon and its microstructure are also discussed. The consumption of reagents in the adsorption and elution circuits is presented in sufficient detail to allow the potential of the activated-carbon process as an alternative to the Merill-Crowe process for the treatment of high-grade solutions to be evaluated. In addition, the results of parallel small-scale investigations on the effect of pH on the loading of CaCO3, gold, and other metals on activated carbon are presented and discussed briefly.

Book Gold and Silver Elution from Carbon Loaded in Thiourea Leach Solution

Download or read book Gold and Silver Elution from Carbon Loaded in Thiourea Leach Solution written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thiourea is an alternative to cyanide for leaching gold and silver from ore that has higher leaching rates and less environmental sensitivity. Dissolved gold-thiourea complex can be easily removed from the solution by activated carbon but there are difficulties in the desorption of gold from the carbon. This research program studied the gold and silver recovery from thiourea leach solution by carbon adsorption, carbon elution and carbon regeneration.
