Download or read book AIDS written by Jaime Sepúlveda Amor and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1992 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A decade after AIDS was first recognized, the simple idea that education is the most effective weapon to prevent infection remains valid. This is true because AIDS will not disappear, just as the majority of infectious diseases have not disappeared, even those for which effective methods of treatment and prevention already exist. Therefore, education is not a transitory strategy; if and when effective drugs and vaccines are developed, education will still play a major role in contending with the epidemic. Enough has been learned about AIDS prevention through education during the last decade to merit reflection on both the failures and successes of this short, tragic but also intense and vital period. The original education models based on fear have been replaced with more optimistic and even humorous campaigns. Health promotion has moved to center stage in the global fight against AIDS. This book is an effort to collect and organize a wealth of global experience from many experts and to consolidate new information. Included among the variety of strategies are discussions of the role of both the print and electronic media in the national fight, as well as presentations of international lessons gleaned from community and regional efforts in Brazil, Africa, Mexico and Europe. The book offers the reader a range of views and perspectives from experts in the varied disciplines that make up the very broad field of AIDS education. This timely, important volume offers AIDS researchers, clinicians, and educators, as well as public health and infectious disease professionals key, practical insights for global AIDS prevention.

Download or read book Worlds Apart written by Norman L. Geisler and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2003-01-09 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Those looking for a compendium of the major world views, written from a Christian perspective, need look no further. Comprehensive and readable, well organized and up to date, 'Worlds Apart' stands alone. After introducing the meaning and function of a world view, the authors explore the seven major world views of our day -- theism, atheism, pantheism, pantheism, deism, finite godism, and polytheism. They delineate the varieties within each view, analyze the beliefs of its major representatives, and outline and evaluate its basic tenets. The authors present the seven world views in such a way that one can compare and contrast these views. ÒIt is our hope,Ó they write, Òthat [readers] will carefully consider all the options and then decide, even if it means discarding the world view [they] now have.Ó In this revised edition the authors have updated the text and bibliography, rewritten several sections, and included suggested readings for each world view. Like the original edition, published in 1984, this volume contains a glossary of terms and an index of subjects and names.

Download or read book Forms of Life and Language Games written by Jesús Padilla Gálvez and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-05-02 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ludwig Wittgenstein’s writings inspired contemporary philosophical thinking and advanced many issues that had been addressed by traditional philosophy. The questions raised by the Viennese philosopher initiated debates on a reconsideration of philosophical terminology. This is especially true for a term that has generated at least three significant controversies since its creation and will probably generate more disputes in the following years. It is the expression “form(s) of life” which translates into German as “Lebensform(en)” and “Form des Lebens”. The present volume contains contributions on forms of life, language games and the influence of Wittgenstein’s philosophy on other scholears.

Download or read book Studies in Phenomenology written by D. Sinha and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is the result of my preoccupation with the phe nomenological philosophy of Edmund Husserl during my years of post-doctoral studies (approximately since 1960). As the titles of the chapters may suggest, I have dealt with a number of topics relating to Husserlian Phenomenology - themes which are relatively independent but not disconnected. For I have been prone to look upon this movement as presenting more an organic outlook of its own, inspite of its diversity of phases, than as offering certain answers to individual philosophical problems. Accordingly my aim here has been to interpret the meaning and significance of this outlook in its logical, epistemological and metaphysical aspects. In writing these chapters I have been aware of the fact that the phenomenological movement as such still represents some thing of a heterodoxy in the world of Anglo-American philosophy to-day. Yet the points of contact between the two are not far fetched. In treating the problems from the phenomenological point of view, I have often taken into account the views of the empirical-analytical school in general. It should be clear that instead of confining myself to a bare exposition of the different aspects of Husserlian Phenomenology, I have taken some freedom in interpreting its point of view.

Download or read book Lectures on Calvinism written by Abraham Kuyper and published by Cosimo, Inc.. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series of lectures was delivered by Abraham Kuyper at the Princeton Theological Seminary in 1898. Over the course of the lectures, he discusses Calvinism and the way it pertains to many aspects of life including politics, science, and art. According to Kuyper, Calvinism has a natural affinity for scientific investigation, because like scientific inquiry, Calvinism seeks to unify the cosmos under universal laws. Predestination, he says, proves that a set of laws exist to govern the world, and science is merely trying to figure them out. When it comes to art, Kuyper launches into a defense of Calvinism, which is often maligned as a religion that seeks to stamp out art and its significance. Readers will find here a thorough and elegant explanation of Calvinism and its particular outlook on life. Anyone wanting to know how the religion is unique among the many Christian sects will find it an enjoyable and informative read. Dutch theologian ABRAHAM KUYPER (1837-1920) was prime minister of the Netherlands from 1901 to 1905. He developed Neo-Calvinism, which emphasizes the sovereignty of Jesus over all mental pursuits and supports the idea that there exists a grace given by God to all things in order to sustain the continued unfolding of creation. Kuyper wrote a number of books including Conservatism and Orthodoxy (1870), The Social Question and the Christian Religion (1891), and Common Grace (1902).
