Book Harold Bloom Routledge Revivals

Download or read book Harold Bloom Routledge Revivals written by Peter De Bolla and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-03 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1960s, the literary critic Harold Bloom has been producing some of the most powerful criticism in the United States. This large body of work has, since the publication of The Anxiety of Influence in 1973, increasingly distanced itself from all critical vogues, be they psychoanalytic, post-structuralist or new formalist, in favour of a highly idiosyncratic poetic theory. First published in 1988, this title was the first to engage with this unique approach in order to extend and amplify its most crucial insights about the nature of rhetoric, as it functions both in poetry and in poetic theory. The underlying argument is for a historical conception of rhetoric, for an extension of Bloom’s ‘diachronic rhetoric’ towards historical rhetoric.

I found the writing to be well based in theory. Lancaster references many of the seminal works in Kabbalah and many of the great writers - from Luria. He makes sense out of a very complex tradition by providing adequate background, common sense language, and a nice balance of scholarship and approachability. The book is also sprinkled with a few illustrations, and Lancaser does a great job of describing the comcepts of gematria and the Hebrew alphabet - which comprise a major foundation for Kabbalistic thinking. All in all a great introductory book.

The Kabbalah is a rich tradition of repeated attempts to achieve and portray direct experiences of God: its twelfth-and thirteenth-century beginnings in southern France and Spain are probed in Origins of the Kabbalah, a work crucial in Scholem's oeuvre. The book is a contribution not only to the history of Jewish medieval mysticism but also to the study of medieval mysticism in general and will be of interest to historians and psychologists, as well as to students of the history of religion.

Book The Kabbalah of Time

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bonder Nilton Bonder
  • Publisher : Trafford Publishing
  • Release : 2009-11
  • ISBN : 1426922329
  • Pages : 348 pages

Download or read book The Kabbalah of Time written by Bonder Nilton Bonder and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2009-11 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kabbalah of Time is an interactive investigation of two fundamental mysteries: the Absolute (God) and the Infinite (time-space). Everything that has form was shaped by the transitory nature of time. God, devoid of form, as presented in the Biblical text, is a God that does not belong to time. Using mystical teachings within Judaism to learn from the perspective of beyond time, Rabbi Nilton Bonder presents some intriguing questions and mysterious answers that can contribute to a better intimacy with reality. Viewing Creation as the Creation of time itself he proposes a countdown for the establishment of sequential time as we know it. Day 1: The Everlasting produces the Now. Day 2: The Now produces existence. Day 3: Existence produces death. Day 4: Death produces feelings. Day 5: Feelings produce intelligence. Day 6: Intelligence produces the past. Day 7: The past produces the future. Why would a Creator by nature be hidden and invisible? Can something exist without being inside time? Where did we come from and where do we go when we leave time? What if time could be understood as a place, a place that has no direction?

Book excerpt: Kabbalah: An Introduction to Jewish Mysticism is a clear, accessible 'primer' and introduction to the major teachings of the Jewish mystics, to various dominant forms of Jewish mystical experiences, as well as to many of the significant texts that constitute classical Jewish mystical literature, and to their authors. Rather than provide an historical approach, this introduction to Jewish mysticism delineates five 'models' of Jewish mystical theology and experience: Normal Mysticism, Mystical Intimacy, Addressing God's Needs, Drawing Down Divine Grace, and Prophetic Kabbalah. Sherwin not only presents primary texts in translation, but also offers an explanation of each selection and provides a bibliography for further study.
