Book The Jungle Books EC

Download or read book The Jungle Books EC written by Rudyard Kipling and published by Lindhardt og Ringhof. This book was released on 2006-05-23 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When he wrote THE JUNGLE BOOKS in 1894, Kipling probably did not know that he was creating one of the most popular characters in fiction. The stories of Mowgli, the man-cub and his adventures with Bagheera the Panther, Baloo the Bear and Shere Khan the Tiger have captured the imagination of generations ever since. This volume contains a selection of the Mowgli stories together with the animal stories Rikki-tikki-tavi and The Undertaker. Kiplings stories combine adventure, humour and romance and reveal the authors political and philosophical concerns beneath his simple writing style.

Book Harvey Kurtzman s Jungle Book

Download or read book Harvey Kurtzman s Jungle Book written by Harvey Kurtzman and published by Dark Horse Comics. This book was released on 2014 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harvey Kurtzman's Jungle Book is widely regarded as one of the greatest comic books of all time, and was voted into the 'Top 100 Comics of the 20th Century' by The Comics Journal. Written and illustrated by Kurtzman in 1959, Jungle Book takes a satirical swipe at the cultural monoliths of the day: detective shows, Western movies and the publishing industry in general. Equally unafraid to take on social issues, Kurtzman also satirises the lynch-hungry mobs still prevalent in the South, and the nascent rise of the Freudian movement within popular culture.

Book Imperial Subjects Imperial Space

Download or read book Imperial Subjects Imperial Space written by John McBratney and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why was Rudyard Kipling so drawn in his fiction to the figure of the foreign-born Briton--what Kipling called the "native-born"? The answer lies in McBratney's "Imperial Subjects, Imperial Space, the first full-length study of a figure central to Kipling's major imperial fiction: the "native-born." In these narratives Kipling sees the native-born fulfilling two important roles: model imperial servant and ideal imperial citizen. The special abilities that allow the native-born to play these roles derive from his identity as neither exclusively British nor simply "native." This study also provides the most thorough analysis of that figure's hybrid, "casteless" selfhood in relation to shifting attitudes toward racial identity during Britain's "New Imperialism." In its endeavor to place the liminal subject within a particular moment in British discourses about race and nation, this book illuminates both the complexities of subject construction in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods and the struggles today over identity formation in the postcolonial world.

Here were finally war comics without heroic, cigar-chomping sergeants, wisecracking privates from Brooklyn, or cartoon Nazis and “Japs” to be mowed down by the Yank heroes, but an unflinching look at the horror and madness of combat throughout history.
