Chapters • The first chapter explores the parts and components that make up your inner life, stressing the importance of having an inner life and understanding its purpose and function. • The first chapter also examines the nature of self, your internal conversations and dialogue, your three internal attentions, and how they function, relate, and work together or at cross purposes. • The second chapter explains dialectics as the means and mechanism of thought. • The third chapter focuses on how inner dialectics are beneficial and how they can work effectively and efficiently. • The fourth chapter focuses on how to be aware of, explore, and map your inner dialectics using the Ping-Pack-Pong paradigm. • The fifth chapter focuses on the problem and the issue of Complex Ping-Pack-Pongs. • The sixth chapter focuses on solutions that fail to help the problems of dysfunctional dialectics. • The seventh chapter focuses on the problems of “not-ing” (of trying to undo P-P-Ps). • The eighth chapter focuses on solutions for dialectics.

Book Murphy s Laws of the Inner Life

Download or read book Murphy s Laws of the Inner Life written by Michael William Murphy and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2006-05-29 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his 40-year quest for truth and inner peace, Michael Murphy ranges from a Roman Catholic seminary in New York to a Shiva temple in Southern India. He rises to a respected position in an international meditation organization while living a double life in which he explores numerous other teachers and paths. Through it all he struggles with one of the greatest tests (and teachers) on the path of the seeker: living in intimate relationship with another human being. This book is more than a spiritual memoir, however. In writing it Murphy, who has taught writing for a decade, explores a new method for using writing itself as a technique for spiritual unfoldment. He details this technique in his introduction and offers the rest of the book as a model for those who wish to uncover their own deepest truths through the writing process. His own deepest truths-uncovered through this process-punctuate the chapters as "Murphy's Laws."

Book Counselor

Download or read book Counselor written by Theodore C. Sorenson and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2008-07-01 with total page 856 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this gripping memoir, John F. Kennedy's closest advisor recounts in full for the first time his experience counseling Kennedy through the most dramatic moments in American history. Sorensen returns to January 1953, when he and the freshman senator from Massachusetts began their extraordinary professional and personal relationship. Rising from legislative assistant to speechwriter and advisor, the young lawyer from Nebraska worked closely with JFK on his most important speeches, as well as his book Profiles in Courage. Sorensen encouraged the junior senator's political ambitions—from a failed bid for the vice presidential nomination in 1956 to the successful presidential campaign in 1960, after which he was named Special Counsel to the President. Sorensen describes in thrilling detail his experience advising JFK during some of the most crucial days of his presidency, from the decision to go to the moon to the Cuban Missile Crisis, when JFK requested that the thirty-four-year-old Sorensen draft the key letter to Khrushchev at the most critical point of the world's first nuclear confrontation. After Kennedy was assassinated, Sorensen stayed with President Johnson for a few months before leaving to write a biography of JFK. In 1968 he returned to Washington to help run Robert Kennedy's presidential campaign. Through it all, Sorensen never lost sight of the ideals that brought him to Washington and to the White House, working tirelessly to promote and defend free, peaceful societies. Illuminating, revelatory, and utterly compelling, Counselor is the brilliant, long-awaited memoir from the remarkable man who shaped the presidency and the legacy of one of the greatest leaders America has ever known.

Book Normative and Pragmatic Dimensions of Genetic Counseling

Download or read book Normative and Pragmatic Dimensions of Genetic Counseling written by Joseph B. Fanning and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an elaboration and evaluation of the dominant conceptions of genetic counseling as they are accounted for in three different models: the teaching model; the psychotherapeutic model; and the responsibility model. The elaboration of these models involves an identification of the larger traditions, visions and theories of communication that underwrite them; the evaluation entails an assessment of each model’s theses and ultimately a comparison of their adequacy in response to two important concerns in genetic counseling: the contested values of non-directiveness and the recognition of differences across perspectives, with special focus on how religious and spiritual beliefs of patients are coordinated with the networks of meaning in genetics. Several insights are made explicit in this project through the work of Robert Brandom. Brandom’s deontic scorekeeping model demonstrates how dialogue is at the root of grasping a conceptual content. Against this backdrop, professional communications such as genetic counseling can be seen as late developments in linguistic practices that have structural challenges. Brandom’s model reminds us that the professional needs the client’s understanding to grasp conceptual content in a particular context.
