Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is the year 2034 A.D. Imagine that the British Empire never fell. Communism never happened. Britain conquered all that stood in her way, destroying the rebellions of the Americas and the British Raj. Now the Angels Interitus orbit the earth, ready to wipe out entire cities at a moment's notice with their tungsten bombs, and the dreadnoughts known as the Tin Soldiers march on all who would stand in Her Majesty's path. In the middle of these grand and great political games, a little island called Ceylon floats peacefully in the waters of the Indian Ocean. Those who invaded it saw only the ruins of empire, and spent their lives planting tea and building holiday bungalows here. But Ceylon is far from peaceful. Many things have happened. And many things are about to change.

Book Henry Miller The Inhuman Artist

Download or read book Henry Miller The Inhuman Artist written by Indrek Männiste and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2013-06-20 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Against skeptics, Männiste argues that Miller does indeed have a philosophy of his own, which underpins most of his texts. It is demonstrated that this philosophy, as a metaphysical sense of life, forms a system the understanding of which is necessary to adequately explain even some of the most basic of Miller's ideas. Building upon his notion of the inhuman artist, Miller's philosophical foundation is revealed through his literary attacks against the metaphysical design of the modern age. It is argued that, by repudiating some of the most potent elements of late modernity such as history, modern technology and an aesthetisized view of art, Miller paves the way for overcoming Western metaphysics. Finally it is showed that, philosophically, this aim is governed by Miller's idiosyncratic concept of art, in which one is led towards self-liberation through transcending the modern society and its dehumanizing pursuits.

Real human development and world-peace can only be achieved if proper mind-developmental education and training are introduced all over the world. In this extreme crisis period of the age, with the aim of real human development and world peace, the great philosopher, multi-talented wise sage and scientist ~ Maharshi MahaManas ~ has initiated a great spiritual revolution to free the entire mankind from suffering and misery. Pioneer of rational spirituality and devoted to human welfare ~ Sumeru Ray alias Maharshi MahaManas ~ To dispel the darkness of ignorance along with human-centered unrest, bloodshed and poverty all over the world, sought true human liberation in the path of Atma-Vikas-Yoga (self / mind-development yoga) called 'MahaManan'. By practicing his sure education and methods based on his spiritual science, radical good changes will come in human life. The key word of Maharshi MahaManas' revolutionary doctrine of human liberation ~ 'MahaVad' is: Most of the man-made problems around the world~ injustice - tyranny, oppression, fraud, poverty, unrest etc. are the root cause of people's lack of sufficient knowledge and consciousness, and mental illness. Blind-faith, superstition, hatred, violence, terror, all sprang from that. The only solution is 'MahaManan' 'महामनन' आत्म-विकास योग or मन-विकास शिक्षाक्रम (mind-developmental education) and practice. Maharshi said, real human development is possible only through proper आत्म-विकास शिक्षाक्रम or mind-developmental education. It is for this purpose that Maharshi MahaManas has developed a great and unparalleled educational system for creating a well-developed human beings with 'MahaManan' Meditation 'महामनन' आत्म-ध्यान (self-meditation) training for true human development and world peace! Real human development and world peace can be achieved only if 'Atma Vikas Yoga Sikshakram' आत्म विकास योग शिक्षाक्रम or mind-developmental education and training called 'MahaManan' is introduced everywhere. If true human development takes place through this mind-developmental education, only then will most human-centered problems and crises be solved. He soon aspired to build a world-class university of reasonable spirituality for true self / mind-development education and self-meditation training. Maharshi called upon all conscious people to extend their hand of cooperation to make this great initiative of human development a success. Along with that, he is also appealing to the government, to protect the next generation from the terrible difficult situation of the future, to make them healthy, rich in knowledge and consciousness, sufficiently developed people, that the government should include this psychological education in the curriculum of every school. At his young age, Maharshi traveled all over the country in search of truth and finally after a long period of penance in the Himalayas, he realized that the root cause of so many sufferings and problems of people is their lack of knowledge and consciousness and illness of body and mind. Most human-centered problems will be solved only if we can get rid of it. Then he developed an excellent human development education system through long-term pursuit and research. It is named - 'महामनन' आत्म-विकास योग शिक्षाक्रम ('MahaManan' self-development curriculum). After that he came down from the Himalayas and started teaching He has written several books with the aim of human development through mind-development. His books are available on other platform including Amazon. If you search the internet, you will find many of his articles, podcasts and videos on human development. In 2021, his research and discoveries on six important topics were published in various international science journals. Besides, he has been giving meditation training to many people in different places almost regularly. Through the Internet, his human development activities and his great doctrine of human liberation are gradually spreading all over the world. And many people have gradually taken his devotees and disciples and started practicing 'MahaManan' Atmavikash Yoga for mind-development.

Download or read book Future Peace written by Robert H. Latiff and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2022-03-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Future Peace urges extreme caution in the adoption of new weapons technology and is an impassioned plea for peace from an individual who spent decades preparing for war. Today’s militaries are increasingly reliant on highly networked autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, and advanced weapons that were previously the domain of science fiction writers. In a world where these complex technologies clash with escalating international tensions, what can we do to decrease the chances of war? In Future Peace, the eagerly awaited sequel to Future War, Robert H. Latiff questions our overreliance on technology and examines the pressure-cooker scenario created by the growing animosity between the United States and its adversaries, our globally deployed and thinly stretched military, the capacity for advanced technology to catalyze violence, and the American public’s lack of familiarity with these topics. Future Peace describes the many provocations to violence and how technologies are abetting those urges, and it explores what can be done to mitigate not only dangerous human behaviors but also dangerous technical behaviors. Latiff concludes that peace is possible but will require intense, cooperative efforts on the part of technologists, military leaders, diplomats, politicians, and citizens. Future Peace amplifies some well-known ideas about how to address the issues, and provides far-, mid-, and short-term recommendations for actions that are necessary to reverse the apparent headlong rush into conflict. This compelling and timely book will captivate general readers, students, and scholars of global affairs, international security, arms control, and military ethics.

Book The United Nations Peace and Security

Download or read book The United Nations Peace and Security written by Ramesh Thakur and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-06-08 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preventing humanitarian atrocities is becoming as important for the United Nations as dealing with inter-state war. In this book, Ramesh Thakur examines the transformation in UN operations, analysing its changing role and structure. He asks why, when and how force may be used and argues that the growing gulf between legality and legitimacy is evidence of an eroded sense of international community. He considers the tension between the US, with its capacity to use force and project power, and the UN, as the centre of the international law enforcement system. He asserts the central importance of the rule of law and of a rules-based order focused on the UN as the foundation of a civilised system of international relations. This book will be of interest to students of the UN and international organisations in politics, law and international relations departments, as well as policymakers in the UN and other NGOs.

Book To Promote Peace

Download or read book To Promote Peace written by Dennis L. Bark and published by Hoover Press. This book was released on 2021-04-22 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sharing the premise that an adequate, credible defense is the best guarantee of peace, sixteen distinguished foreign policy experts test the chances of peace by examining American foreign policy in To Promote Peace. Writing from the vantage point of the mid-1980s, these contributors approach a broad spectrum of the day's issues, developing fresh ideas and innovative policy approaches at every turn. Their essays—always challenging, clear, and incisive—furnish a realistic blueprint for peace in a world dominated by nuclear fantasies and cutting-edge technologies. Declaring that the Allies must bear their fair share of NATO's common defense, Melvyn Krauss argues the time has come to begin phasing out U.S. forces in Europe. Pointing out that compromised intelligence has squandered much of our technological advantage, Arnold Beichman demands that top priority be given to the establishment of an effective, sophisticated intelligence network. Showing the effects of dÉtente-inspired build-down of tactical nuclear weapons, H. Joachim MaÎtre explores a variety of weapons systems in achieving true mutual deterrence. From an analysis of the critical relationship between energy supply and peace to tough and well-reasoned predictions on what the future holds, To Promote Peace is not afraid to spark debate and seek new initiatives and direction. Its assessments consider global issues with more realism, more courage, and more certainty of the necessity of maintaining the United States as a forceful presence throughout the world.

Book Unstaging War Confronting Conflict and Peace

Download or read book Unstaging War Confronting Conflict and Peace written by Tony Fry and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-24 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the concept of ‘unstaging’ war as a strategic response to the failure of the discourse and institutions of peace. This failure is explained by exploring the changing character of conflict in current and emergent global circumstances, such as asymmetrical conflicts, insurgencies, and terrorism. Fry argues that this pluralisation of war has broken the binary relation between war and peace: conflict is no longer self-evident, and consequentially the changes in the conditions, nature, systems, philosophies and technologies of war must be addressed. Through a deep understanding of contemporary war, Fry explains why peace fails as both idea and process, before presenting ‘Unstaging War’ as a concept and nascent practice that acknowledges conflict as structurally present, and so is not able to be dealt with by attempts to create peace. Against a backdrop of increasingly tense relations between global power blocs, the beginnings of a new nuclear arms race, and the ever-increasing human and environmental impacts of climate change, a more viable alternative to war is urgently needed. Unstaging War is not claimed as a solution, but rather as an exploration of critical problems and an opening into the means of engaging with them.

Book War and Peace in Jewish Tradition

Download or read book War and Peace in Jewish Tradition written by Yigal Levin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-03-15 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transition between the reality of war and a hope for peace has accompanied the Jewish people since biblical times. However, the ways in which both concepts are understood have changed many times over the ages, and both have different implications for an independent nation in its own land than they do for a community of exiles living as a minority in foreign countries. This book explores the concepts of war and peace throughout the history of Judaism. Combining three branches of learning - classical Jewish sources, from the Bible to modern times; related academic disciplines of Jewish studies, humanities, social and political sciences; and public discussion of these issues on political, military, ideological and moral levels - contributors from Israel and the USA open new vistas of investigation for the future as well as an awareness of the past. Chapters touch on personal and collective morality in warfare, survival though a long and often violent history, and creation of some of the world’s great cultural assets, in literature, philosophy and religion, as well as in the fields of community life and social autonomy. An important addition to the current literature on Jewish thought and philosophy, this book will be of considerable interest to scholars working in the areas of Jewish Studies, theology, modern politics, the Middle East and biblical studies.
