Book Detection and Identification of Organic Compounds

Download or read book Detection and Identification of Organic Compounds written by Miroslov Vecera and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American edition of our monograph is not a mere translation of the Czech edition, which appeared some five years ago. We have had to respect the fact that even such a short period has sufficed for progress in this field, and that the field of application of methods of organic analysis has widened. We have therefore revised a number of chapters in Part 1, the general part of the monograph-mainly those devoted to chromatographic methods, which have been extended and complemented by methods of thin-layer chromatography and electrophoresis. The chapters on the theory of color reactions and on analytical literature have also been extended; the chapter on spectral methods has been extended by including the use of proton magnetic resonance in organic analysis, and the list of references has been enlarged by adding books of importance for organic analysis. In Part 2, the part dealing specifically with various elements and chemical groups, we have extended the chapters on solubility and on acids and bases. The methods for the detection and identification of given classes of compounds have also been supplemented by references to recent papers.

Download or read book Nitrogen NMR written by M. Witanowski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To date nitrogen NMR has been discussed in research papers and review articles throughout the scientific literature. It has been our aim in preparing this book to provide a comprehen sive account of the widely spread applications of nitrogen NMR. The relevant literature has been surveyed from the beginnings of NMR until early 1972. The steady annual growth in the number of references cited since 1965 is ample evidence of the ever increasing importance of the subject. Sufficient theoretical and experimental background is given for an understanding of the applications dealt with in later chapters. The basic principles of NMR are developed with a theoretical approach to chemical shifts and spin-spin coupling constants, particular emphasis being given to nitrogen nuclei. Following this the experimental aspects of nitrogen NMR are adequately described. Special emphasis is given to the observable effects of the nuclear quadrupole moment of the 14 N nucleus. It is appro priate that this topic be dealt with in depth since quadrupolar interactions frequently dominate the information available from a study of the 14 N nucleus and other nuclei spin coupled to it. The applications of nitrogen chemical shift data to organic and inorganic molecules are covered in two extensive chapters which include the effects of paramagnetism on nitrogen NMR.

Book Chemistry of Polymeric Metal Chelates

Download or read book Chemistry of Polymeric Metal Chelates written by Gulzhian I. Dzhardimalieva and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 1036 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the chemistry of polymeric metal chelates. The main results and the production and chemical structure of polymers with chelate units as well as the specificity of metal complex binding of different structure are presented here. This book also reveals the transformations which components undergo in the course of chelation. Special attention is paid not only to synthetic but also to natural (including living) systems. The usage of polymeric metal chelates and their development are examined. The related research was performed for chelates with chain structure. This book is useful to researchers being active in synthesis and design of macromolecular metal chelates

Book Quinolone Antibacterials

Download or read book Quinolone Antibacterials written by Jochen Kuhlmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-02-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been over 30 years since the first clinically important member of the quinolone class, nalidixic acid, was introduced into medical practice. The modification produced in the quinolone nucleus by introducing a fluorine at the 6-position led to the discovery of the newer fluoroquinolones with enhanced antibacterial activities as compared to nalidixic acid. By now a great deal of preclinical and clinical experience has been obtained with these agents. The intense interest in this class of antibacterial agents by chemists, micro biologists, toxicologists, pharmacologists, clinical pharmacologists, and clini cians in various disciplines encouraged us to summarize the information on the history, chemistry, mode of action and in vitro properties, kinetics and efficacy in animals, mechanisms of resistance, toxicity, clinical pharmacology, clinical experience, and future prospects in one volume of the Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology. As this series deals predominantly with "experimental" characteristics of drugs, our volume is dedicated specifically to quinolones and emphasizes principally their preclinical and clinical phar macological characteristics, despite the existence of several summaries on quinolones. The chemistry of the quinolones is described in detail. The chapter on the mode of action of quinolones reports the conclusive evidence that gyrase is the intracellular target of the quinolones; however, another enzyme, topoisomerase IV, may also be a target for quinolones, and the exact mechanisms by which quinolones act bactericidally are far from being understood.

Book The Chemistry and Application of Dyes

Download or read book The Chemistry and Application of Dyes written by David R. Waring and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is particularly appropriate that a volume concerned with dye chemistry should be included in the series Topics in Applied Chemistry. The development of the dye industry has been inexorably linked not only with the development of the chemical industry but also with organic chemistry itself since the middle of the last century. The position of dye chemistry at the forefront of chemical 1945 and more markedly so during the last advance has declined somewhat since 15 years, with pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry assuming an increasingly prominent position. Nevertheless, dye production still accounts for a significant portion of the business of most major chemical companies. The field of dye chemistry has stimulated the publication of many books over the years but surprisingly few have concentrated on or even included the practical aspects of dye synthesis and application. Thus, the present volume is designed to fulfill that need and provide the reader with an account of advances in dye chemistry, concentrating on more recent work and giving, in a single volume, synthetic detail and methods of application of the most important classes, information which will be invaluable to both student and research chemist alike.

Book Experimental and Clinical Neurotoxicology

Download or read book Experimental and Clinical Neurotoxicology written by Peter S. Spencer and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 958 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two decades have passed since publication of the first edition of Experimental and Clinical Neurotoxicology pioneered the development of this discipline. Since then no other book has approached the breadth, scholarship, and balance of that landmark volume. For this long-awaited second edition, the original editors have been joined by Albert Ludolf, who brings expertise in biological neurotoxicology, and together with their distinguished contributors they have completely rewritten and reorganized the text. The scientific and clinical foundation is laid in three comprehensive introductory chapters. An overview of the biological basis of neurotoxicity provides the goundwork for discussing the scope of human and veterinary neurotoxic disease. The bulk of the text is devoted to an alphabetical treatment of chemicals with neurotoxic potential. This consists of tightly written overviews of the properties, actions, and mechanisms of all manner of substances, whether natural or synthetic. The neurotoxic side effects of experimental agents and of therapeutic as well as abused drugs are covered extensively. Environmental pollutants, workplace contaminants, personal-use products, food additives, and agents harbored by plants, animals, and humans for use against their respective enemies are discussed. Each substance is rated on a three-point scale for the weight of evidence indicating a specific neurotoxic effect in humans, animals, or laboratory models. These effects are summarized and cross-referenced in a series of appendices and an extensive index. In summary, the second edition establishes neurotoxicology as a scientific discipline that melds neurobiology, toxicology, and neurology. From this unique vantage point, the book examines in encyclopedic manner several hundred chemicals with the capacity to induce neurological illness in humans and animals. Indispensable for the experimental neuroscientist and toxicologist, as well as for practitioners of human and animal medicine, the book also provides an authoritative, critical, and pithy reference work for specialists in public health and the legal profession.
