Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is packed with several short stories of real people who have experienced a variety of life-changing events such as domestic violence, prostitution, infidelity, rape, incest, child abuse, loss of a loved one, divorce and so much more. Each story is unique and is a reflection of what is going on in our current society. It is a revelation and exposure of things that people just don't want to talk about, but are so important because of the impact that these things make on our society in the past, present and future. The exact names of the characters have been changed to protect their privacy, but these stories are similar to what other people are going through and even if you cannot identify with any of these experiences, you probably know someone who does. You will feel compassion, sadness, joy, hysterics, love, and so many other emotions when you read this book. A few of these are my own personal story because why would you want to read something from me that I have not personally gone through myself? So I can relate to this and so will you or a friend or family member. Each story was from an interview that I conducted with the individual. The title describes what the book is all about. Many people still carry their wounds around even through adulthood. The book shows, in some of the stories, that there is hope. I chose the cover to reveal real pain. I learned from writing this book that we are all connected in some way, whether we like it or not. Pain is relative and we can get over anything that we might have gone through. Book Price is $17.59

Join the Random House Reader’s Circle for author chats and more. In boyhood, Louis Zamperini was an incorrigible delinquent. As a teenager, he channeled his defiance into running, discovering a prodigious talent that had carried him to the Berlin Olympics. But when World War II began, the athlete became an airman, embarking on a journey that led to a doomed flight on a May afternoon in 1943. When his Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean, against all odds, Zamperini survived, adrift on a foundering life raft. Ahead of Zamperini lay thousands of miles of open ocean, leaping sharks, thirst and starvation, enemy aircraft, and, beyond, a trial even greater. Driven to the limits of endurance, Zamperini would answer desperation with ingenuity; suffering with hope, resolve, and humor; brutality with rebellion. His fate, whether triumph or tragedy, would be suspended on the fraying wire of his will. Appearing in paperback for the first time—with twenty arresting new photos and an extensive Q&A with the author—Unbroken is an unforgettable testament to the resilience of the human mind, body, and spirit, brought vividly to life by Seabiscuit author Laura Hillenbrand. At the end of the day, everyone will pay their price, whether it's in cash or flesh. Most would see reasons for concern because she's a ferocious beast, constantly fighting me, though it only entices me. I'm a monster . . . and she's something, though I've yet to figure out what type of beast she is. There's no doubt the woman excites me, but sometimes the most exciting things can be dangerous. Everyone knows in the game of chess that the queen is the second most powerful piece on the board, and I see this spitfire of a woman becoming my queen, whether she wants to or not.

Book excerpt: Fiercely observed, often hilarious, and “reminiscent of Ibsen and Strindberg” (The New York Times Book Review), this exquisitely controversial novel was initially banned in its author’s homeland. A searing portrayal of Vienna’s bourgeoisie, it begins with the arrival of an unnamed writer at an ‘artistic dinner’ hosted by a composer and his society wife—a couple he once admired and has come to loathe. The guest of honor, a distinguished actor from the Burgtheater, is late. As the other guests wait impatiently, they are seen through the critical eye of the writer, who narrates a silent but frenzied tirade against these former friends, most of whom have been brought together by Joana, a woman they buried earlier that day. Reflections on Joana’s life and suicide are mixed with these denunciations until the famous actor arrives, bringing an explosive end to the evening that even the writer could not have seen coming.

Download or read book Poster Man written by Seymour Chwast and published by . This book was released on 2021-02-28 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of over 140 curated posters by the revolutionary graphic artist Seymour Chwast provides context and insight into not only his five-decade career, but the poster genre itself. Since founding Push Pin Studios alongside Milton Glaser and Edward Sorel in the 1950s, Chwast's posters have been widely celebrated for their combination of subversive style and strong political satire. His caustic humor, graphic hand, and visual commentary cleverly synthesize in a way that is both wry and immediately understandable. Posters are arranged by type--Causes, Commerce, Information, Exhibits, and Lectures--rather than chronology, which, along with the large format, invites readers to engage thematically with the designs. Commentary on each poster makes this a valuable resource for students, educators, historians, and all who appreciate the unique ability of posters to subvert notions of popular culture, politics, and design at once. Essays by Shepard Fairey and Steven Heller contextualize Chwast's impact on 20th-century design.

Book Hollywood Genres Formulas Filmmaking and The Studio System

Download or read book Hollywood Genres Formulas Filmmaking and The Studio System written by Thomas Schatz and published by McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages. This book was released on 1981-02 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The central thesis of this book is that a genre approach provides the most effective means for understanding, analyzing and appreciating the Hollywood cinema. Taking into account not only the formal and aesthetic aspects of feature filmmaking, but various other cultural aspects as well, the genre approach treats movie production as a dynamic process of exchange between the film industry and its audience. This process, embodied by the Hollywood studio system, has been sustained primarily through genres, those popular narrative formulas like the Western, musical and gangster film, which have dominated the screen arts throughout this century.
