Book The Geography of Underdevelopment

Download or read book The Geography of Underdevelopment written by Dean Forbes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-11-26 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1984, this title discusses the emergence of both the orthodox and political economy based approaches to underdevelopment in geography , critically assessing their strengths and weaknesses, and showing the relationship between intellectual developments and changing material conditions. The work is primarily concerned with theories, though it does contain much empirical material drawn from throughout the Third World. The book examines the emergence of theories of development historically and considers the various contemporary theoretical ‘schools’, both Marxist and non-Marxist. It goes on to consider four aspects of development which are of particular interest to geographers, namely the world economy, regional imbalances, the human-nature theme and the analysis of urban space, and concludes by suggesting some directions for future research.

Book ECONOMIC AND BUSINESS TRAJECTORY Indonesia Asia and Europe

Download or read book ECONOMIC AND BUSINESS TRAJECTORY Indonesia Asia and Europe written by Edza Aria Wikurendra and published by Edza Aria Wikurendra. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: McKinsey Global Institute, a global business and research agency, forecasts that Indonesia will be the 7th largest economy in the world by 2030. Further, Indonesia's economy will rise to fourth place by 2050, surpassing advanced economies such as Japan and Germany, according to Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC). To turn projections into reality, we need to have the ability to seize all opportunities that can provide economic benefits from various sectors, such as financial technology (Fintech), circular economy, bioenergy, tourism, disaster management, higher education, business, and Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs), agriculture, and other industries. In this book, we examine the economic activities of other countries in Asia and Europe to explore how they can add value to the Indonesian economy. The majority of the content in this book is based on academic research conducted by 25 authors from 5 countries, including several European Professors.

Book Tourism Interventions

Download or read book Tourism Interventions written by Rami K. Isaac and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-10 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together in one volume, the various types of interventions that can steer tourism towards positive impacts (and/or prevent negative impacts) on the destinations where tourism is taking place. Interventions in tourism studies have been viewed primarily as ‘public interventions’ and mainly in the sphere of public policies, planning, and development. This book, however, adopts a larger viewpoint by considering the concept of intervention in areas other than the public sector. The purpose, therefore, is to look into different meanings and uses of the notion of intervention which might involve the initiatives of a variety of actors or agents across locales, borders or scales, as well as how the impacts of tourism on a place have been dealt with. To this end, the book examines tourism interventions and their role in making or breaking places, as initiated and implemented by a variety of stakeholders (public/private sector, NGOs and local communities), by exploring the realities of tourism interventions and how they are utilized to alleviate the negative impacts of tourism; innovative and successful interventions that have contributed to tourism’s making of places; and the way in which certain interventions have not been particularly successful or ‘failing forward’. This significant volume moves beyond considerations of ‘just’ policy or ‘just’ marketing, and brings together different forms of action or inaction in one category, which is a useful response to the variety of actors and initiatives in the tourism space. This book provides students, researchers, and academics with new insight and understanding of how best to sustainably develop, promote, and manage tourism, and how to help destinations become more resilient in the face of future crises.

Book The Politics of NGOs in Indonesia

Download or read book The Politics of NGOs in Indonesia written by Bob S. Hadiwinata and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2003-08-29 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with two major issues: how Indonesian NGOs survived under Suharto's authoritarian rule; and how NGOs contributed to the promotion of democracy in the post-Suharto era. If NGOs are to change from 'development' to 'movement' in democratic post-Suharto Indonesia, they must adjust not only their management and working style, but also their very ideology. This comprehensive study will be an important book for scholars interested in Asian studies, Indonesian politics and development studies.
