First, there exists minimal research on the instructional impact of online learning in K-12. Second, the focus of this limited K-12 research compares the growth outcomes of online learning to the growth outcomes of traditional face-to-face instruction. Therefore, the research found in this dissertation is unique as it is limited to examining the effect of time-in-school on high school students engaged in blended learning.the findings of this study are based on two years of data from a charter school that utilized a blended learning curriculum. The study compared the academic gains of sixteen treatment groups (students whose in-school attendance met specific percentage of time-in-school) to the academic gains of the corresponding sixteen control groups (students whose in-school attendance did not meet specific time percentages). These findings document that the academic gains of students in the study's sixteen treatment groups were statistically greater (

Book excerpt: This study examined the perceptions of teachers relating to factors that contributed to student and teacher success in a blended learning environment. The study was conducted in one school district in southeastern Pennsylvania, comprised of three high schools. Twenty-eight secondary public-school teachers of varying blended-learning teaching experience participated in the online survey, from whom eight individuals currently teaching within the blended modality provided comprehensive insights extracted through interview questions. The results indicated that the participating teacher identified common factors that impact teacher and student success in a blended learning environment but have different ramifications. These factors include: (a) student personality, (b) good teaching practices, (c) prioritizing outcomes, (d) school culture, and (e) teacher knowledge of content area. Because this study was focused on only one public school district, the perceptions of the participants of this study may not be generalized to all teachers of blended learning. However, the identified factors that contribute to student and teacher achievement in blended learning were largely supported by research and may prove worthy of investigation within context of a district considering implementing blended learning.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this quantitative, correlational research study was to understand if student benchmark scores in a blended learning environment were predicted by teachers’ Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). This study used a correlational methodology to examine if in a blended learning environment, teachers’ perceptions of the TPACK score predict their students’ scores on the second nine-weeks benchmark test in a middle school mathematics. Bivariate linear regression was used for data analysis to determine the predictive relationship between teachers' TPACK-21CL survey score and their students' second nine weeks benchmark score using the latest SPSS software. The data was collected from a Virginia middle school in one southwestern district using their benchmark test and the TPACK survey to determine if a teachers’ perception could impact students’ achievement. The teachers (n = 5) participating in this study completed a survey the TPACK survey on SurveyMonkey. The sample included 316 students. The results indicated that there was statistically predictive relationship between teachers’ TPACK-21CL survey and students’ second nine weeks benchmark scores. Furthermore, this study was conducted during the pandemic and should be repeated again using other subjects. This study had a limited amount of participants and future studies should be repeated including other subjects and both students and teachers would be familiar with Chromebooks.
