Download or read book The Hourglass Solution written by Phd Jeff Johnson and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2010-05-21 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seventy-five million baby boomers are finding themselves bound by habits and pursuits instigated many years ago - and for a large percentage of those boomers, significant aspects of their lives no longer satisfy. But by joining revolutionary insight to highly proprietary prescriptive advice, The Hourglass Solution provides a proactive and pragmatic way to lead a better life after 50. Johnson and Forman evaluate the life narrative through the lens of an hourglass - proposing that those in early adulthood are at the top of the hourglass, able to select from many options, while those in middle age are in the hourglass's neck, constrained by the choices they made earlier in their lives. The Hourglass Solution explains how those approaching their fifties (and beyond) can still find a wealth of opportunity by recognizing and pursuing new directions, free from the restrictions imposed by an earlier choice. Like Gail Sheehy's Passages before it, The Hourglass Solution will enlighten and inspire a generation of readers to regain control over their lives and well-being.

Now Anders takes us air a roller-coaster ride of steadily increasing thrills, as a young wife on the run assumes another woman's identity -- and perhaps her nightmares....San Fransisco freelance artist Sharon Moore is caught in a living hell. Her abusive husband has made her a prisoner in her own home, convinced her doctor and neighbors she is having a breakdown, and is plotting her "accidental" death. Desperate, Sharon flees to Seattle with her five-year-old son, David. After assuming the identity of "Janice Young," a woman who died in a suspicious fire years before, Sharon's fresh start is shattered when she begins receiving death threats -- taunting phone calls that mock her every move. Tired of running, and with David ill, Sharon is determined to fight. But she can't be certain if her husband has caught up with her, or if someone is after Janice Young -- a murderer who, this time, will make sure Janice does not survive.

Download or read book THE ROLE OF GOAL SETTING written by Silviu Vasile and published by Silviu Vasile. This book was released on with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many people start to change something about themselves without doing a deep analysis of their life, without being able to get a big picture, and without this picture, the change can only be superficial and short-lived. To learn what performance is and to reach performance we need to learn from the best, from those who have already walked this path and who have the experience and the power to do it. Not everyone can give advice and not all advice is good and suits us, that's why we need to know how to choose from the amount of information in a given field the ones that suit us, the ones that will help us at first to start and make tasks easier, ending up doing the hard part of the tasks. Just like building a jigsaw puzzle, we start with the corner pieces, continue with the side pieces and then fit the middle pieces. If we do things right then the supposedly hard part becomes easy. It's one thing to place the puzzle pieces without any logic, trying to fit what you think the picture would look like but without taking your bearings, and another to have a plan that you apply gradually until the last piece is placed and you form the complete picture. With the help of setting and achieving goals, you will be successful and in this way, you will be able to gain the respect of those around you. You will succeed in becoming an example and your actions will motivate and inspire them. Those who succeed enjoy the appreciation or, why not, the envy of those around them. But no one, no matter how they choose to look at you, can take away the credit you have earned. Often success is a transitory state; you can transition from failure to success and back to failure, or you can evolve from a moment of success to other moments of success. Success is nothing more than consistently setting goals and achieving them.

Download or read book Designing Highly Useable Software written by Jeffrey M. Cogswell and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-12-26 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn What Usability Really Is, Why to Strive for It, and How to Achieve It "Highly useable" software is easy to use. It does what you expect it to. And it does it well. It's not easy to build but as this book demonstrates, it's well worth the effort. Highly useable software is highly successful software—and everyone wins. Inside, an accomplished programmer who has made usability his business systematically explores the world of programming, showing you how every aspect of the work is implicated in the usability of the final product. This is not just an "issues" book, however, but systematic, real-world instructions for developing applications that are better in every way. As you'll learn, there's no such thing as "intuitive" software. Instead, there are just the factors that make it highly useable: simplicity, consistency, the recognition of accepted conventions, and the foregrounding of the user's perspective. With these principles under your belt, you'll quickly discover dozens of ways to make your applications more useable: Making windows and dialog boxes easy to comprehend and use Designing software that is time- and resource-efficient Making your software easy to navigate Reducing the complexity of reports and other presentations of data Understanding how the wrong programming decisions can limit usability Ensuring smooth starts and stops Capitalizing on the usability advantages of object-oriented programming Understanding how usability affects your product's financial success Using the testing process to improve usability Promoting usability in training, installation, and online help Making management decisions that will benefit software usability Some chapters are written primarily for programmers, one primarily for managers. Most are for everyone, and all are filled with illuminating, usually amusing examples drawn from both inside and outside the technical world. A helpful appendix provides information on standards, usability groups, and sources for more information.
Download or read book Engineering Design Applications III written by Andreas Öchsner and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-05 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an update on recent advances in various areas of modern engineering design, such as mechanical, materials, computer, and process engineering, which provide the foundation for the development of improved structures, materials, and processes. The modern design cycle is characterized by the interaction of different disciplines and a strong shift toward computer-based approaches involving only a small number of experiments for verification purposes. A major driver for this development is the increased demand for cost reduction, which is also connected to environmental demands. In the transportation industry (e.g. automotive or aerospace), where there is a demand for greater fuel efficiency, one solution is lighter structures and/or improved processes for energy conversion. Another emerging area is the interaction of classical engineering with the health and medical sector.
Download or read book Microfluidics Enabled Soft Manufacture written by Pingan Zhu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-11 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers state-of-the-art development in microfluidics-enabled soft manufacturing (MESM), ranging from fundamentals to applications. The book addresses the long-standing challenge in the manufacture of simultaneously achieving both precise control over nano-/micro-scale structures and large-scale fabrication of materials for pragmatic use, with microfluidics-enabled soft manufacture to fill the gap between the widely-varied length scales involved. It offers a comprehensive insight into the microfluidic generation of fluid systems as liquid templates, such as droplets, bubbles, jets, emulsions, and foams, which are categorized into individual templates, one-dimensional arrays, and two-/three-dimensional assemblies for the modular fabrication of microparticles, microfibers, and porous materials, respectively. MESM enriches the compositional and structural diversity of engineered materials for well-tailored properties and functionalities, markedly broadening the application horizons across interdisciplinary fields, including engineering, environment, physics, chemistry, biology, and medicine. This book aims to systematize this emerging yet versatile and powerful technology, with the hope of aiding the realization of its full potential. Microfluidics-Enabled Soft Manufacture will be an invaluable reference for graduate students, postgraduates, researchers, and practitioners/professionals working in micro and nanofabrication, materials science, surface science, fluid dynamics, and engineering.

Download or read book Rendering Techniques 2000 written by B. Peroche and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of the 11th Eurographics Workshop on Rendering, which took place from the 26th to the 28th of June, 2000, in Brno, Czech Republic. Over the past 10 years, the Workshop has become the premier forum dedicated to research in rendering. Much of the work in rendering now appearing in other conferences and journals builds on ideas originally presented at the Workshop. This year we received a total of 84 submissions. Bachpaper was carefully reviewed by two of the 25 international programme committee members, as weil as external reviewers, selected by the co-chairs from a pool of 121 individuals (The programme committee and external reviewers are listed following the contents pages). In this review process, all submissions and reviews were handled electronically, with the exception of videos submitted with a few of the papers (however, some mpeg movies were also sent electronically). The overall quality of the submissions was exceptionally high. Space and time constraints forced the committee to make some difficult decisions. In the end, 33 papers were accepted, and they appear here. Almost all papers are accompanied by color images, which appear at the end of the book. The papers treat the following varied topics: radiosity, ray tracing, methods for global illumination, visibility, reftectance, filtering, perception, hardware assisted methods, real time rendering, modeling for effi cient rendering and new image representations.
