Download or read book The Horseman Cometh and Other Stories written by Thomas F. Sheehan and published by Pocol Press. This book was released on 2021-12-21 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dime novels, so named for their cost over 150 years ago, thrilled readers who devoured to learn of the fantastical adventures of western heroes. Often these stories contained a measured hero, a cowboy, Indians, and gun violence. Truth and justice inevitably triumphed. This formula of western heroes further captured the public imagination when translated to film. Prolific western maven Thomas F. Sheehan cut his boyhood teeth reading western stories and saddling up to western films. This book represents one of a dozen books of Sheehan's western short story collections.

This book was released on 2014-11-22 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SINDBAD THE SAILOR In the time of Harun-er-Rashid there was, in Baghdad, a rich merchant named Sindbad the Sailor, the source of whose wealth was a mystery. It seemed to be inexhaustible. For long seasons he kept open house, and his entertainments were the most magnificent of all save only those of Er-Rashid himself. All that riches could buy seemed at his disposal, and he lavished the good things of this life upon his guests. Pages, slaves and attendants there were in great number; his garden was spacious and beautiful, and his house was filled with every costly luxury. This Sindbad the Sailor has a story to tell—the story of his life—but he never told it to any until, one day, there came to him one Sindbad the Landsman, a man of poor and humble birth. This man pleased him greatly with an apt recitation dealing with the widely different lots dispensed by God to men, and, being pleased, he was struck with the happy conceit that, now Sindbad the Sailor was at last confronted with Sindbad the Landsman, it would be no bad thing were he to narrate the story of his life so that all might know his strange adventures and conjecture no longer as to the source of his fabulous wealth. Accordingly Sindbad the Sailor held seven receptions on seven different days, and, although on each occasion a multitude of guests was assembled to listen, he failed not to address his words from first to last to his simple listener, Sindbad the Landsman. Following is his narration of the strange and wonderful adventures he experienced in his seven voyages:— To be continue in this ebook

Book In the Middle Are the Horsemen

Download or read book In the Middle Are the Horsemen written by Tik Maynard and published by Trafalgar Square Books. This book was released on 2018-09-01 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2008, 26–year–old Tik Maynard faced a crossroads not unlike that of other young adults. A university graduate and modern pentathlete, he suffered both a career–ending injury and a painful breakup, leaving him suddenly adrift. The son of prominent Canadian equestrians, Maynard decided to spend the next year as a “working student.” In the horse industry, working students aspire to become professional riders or trainers, and willingly trade labor for hands–on education. Here Maynard chronicles his experiences–good and bad–and we follow along as one year becomes three, what began as a casual adventure gradually transforms, and a life's purpose comes sharply into focus. Over time, Maynard evolved under the critical eyes of Olympians, medal winners, and world–renowned figures in the horse world, including Anne Kursinski, Johann Hinnemann, Ingrid Klimke, David and Karen O'Connor, Bruce Logan, and Ian Millar. He was ignored, degraded, encouraged, and praised. He was hired and fired, told he had the “wrong body type to ride” and that he had found his “destiny.” He got married and lost loved ones. Through it all he studied the horse, and human nature, and how the two can find balance. And in that journey, he may have found himself.
