By night, she’s the writer for the network’s very cheesy, very straight holiday romance series—Christmas in Evermore. Holly took the job to accomplish exactly one thing: a gay Christmas movie. She’s been shot down before, but things start to look up when Meredith Drake unexpectedly moves into the network’s holiday division. On the heels of a brief (but totally hot) fling, Holly and Meredith agree to keep things professional now that they’ll be working together. Especially since the network has a strict policy about workplace relationships. Instead, they vow to channel their passion into a pitch for the network’s first Christmas movie to feature two female leads. In this contemporary romance, Holly and Meredith work to make the Yuletide gayer while discovering that happy endings aren’t only for the movies.

Book The Holiday from Hell

Download or read book The Holiday from Hell written by Carole and David McEntee-Taylor and published by CaroleMcT Books. This book was released on 2011-11-19 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Adventure holiday of A lifetime It had been billed as the holiday of a lifetime. A destination with everything a holiday maker could possibly want. There were towns and cities where they could shop until they dropped and beaches, clubs and nightlife with all kinds of exotic food and drink and anything else they might feel like trying. There were desserts that stretched into infinity, mountains that scaled incredible heights and seas that could challenge even the most jaded pallet. For those of a quieter persuasion there was an abundance of gently rolling countryside in which to relax. So just where did it all go wrong? Just when was it that their dream holiday turned into the Holiday from Hell? For many people on our planet this could be said to be an apt description of their journey through life. From the pain of individual relationships to the devastation of natural disasters and wars, it’s no wonder we sometimes question the reasons we are here. The Holiday from Hell describes our spiritual journey from the beginning of our holiday on the earth plane to the end of our time in this physical body. It argues that if we change our perceptions of why we are here and begin to understand the origins of some of our political and religious conflicts we can at last begin to enjoy our lives.

Book The VAT GST Treatment of Public Bodies

Download or read book The VAT GST Treatment of Public Bodies written by Oskar Henkow and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most VAT systems exclude public bodies from the scope of value added tax (VAT) systems. However, a movement to include public sector bodies within the GST system to some extent or even fully (as in New Zealand) is gaining momentum, and underlies the European Commission’s 2011 study on the treatment and economic impact of exemptions in the public interest. Whether the present EU treatment really is as bad as some of its critics suggest, and whether the New Zealand model really is so perfect that jurisdictions with exclusion models ought simply to replace these existing systems with a New Zealand style system: these are the questions which triggered this research and which form the basis for the critical analysis contained in this book. Using a system design point of view, the author focuses on VAT systems where exclusion or inclusion of public bodies are currently being applied and on how these models function. He presents an in-depth analysis of the major issues in this context, such as the treatment of public bodies as taxable persons, their right to deduct input VAT on acquisitions, and the treatment of the income of public bodies. Specific aspects examined [nclude the following: reallocation of funds and income vs. the production/distribution/consumption cycle; the concept of ‘merit goods’; bias to self-supply instead of contracting out; preference to integrate vertically in the supply chain; applicability of VAT to government regulatory services; tax cascading in the public goods and services context; administration and compliance burden in government agencies; interpretational and implementation difficulties in EU Member States; and VAT compensation schemes in the public sector context, and whether these constitute illegal State aid. The book concludes with an insightful discussion of what might be considered as ‘best practice’ in relation to both the exclusion and full tax models. Beyond its thorough discussion of the treatment of public bodies in various VAT systems, and in the EU VAT system in particular, this is the first book on how a GST/VAT system may be designed to best accommodate public bodies, and as such it is sure to be warmly welcomed by practitioners, academics, and policymakers as a valuable contribution to the debate on the relation between VAT and public sector activities.

Download or read book Holy Day Holiday written by Alexis McCrossen and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-08-06 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mass protests that greeted attempts to open the 1893 Chicago World's Fair on a Sunday seem almost comical today in an era of seven-day convenience and twenty-four-hour shopping. But the issue of the meaning of Sunday is one that has historically given rise to a wide range of strong emotions and pitted a surprising variety of social, religious, and class interests against one another. Whether observed as a day for rest, or time-and-a-half, Sunday has always been a day apart in the American week.Supplementing wide-ranging historical research with the reflections and experiences of ordinary individuals, Alexis McCrossen traces conflicts over the meaning of Sunday that have shaped the day in the United States since 1800. She investigates cultural phenomena such as blue laws and the Sunday newspaper, alongside representations of Sunday in the popular arts. Holy Day, Holiday attends to the history of religion, as well as the histories of labor, leisure, and domesticity.
