Book excerpt: Excerpt from The History of the General Conference of the Mennonites of North America The occasion for the production of this work was the need of it. By those who participated in this movement from the beginning, this need may not be so distinctly felt. But for those who have since united, or for the generation which has since grown up, as well as for the casual inquirer the need is real. There has for years been a steadily increasing demand for information with regard to the history of the General Conference of the Mennonites of North America. The publication in pamphlet form of the proceedings of that body did something toward satisfying this demand. Yet many questions of historical importance these minutes left untouched or unexplained. Then the work of commit tees and individuals, performed during the triennial periods, necessarily received practically no mention. Even of its own sessions these minutes of the Conference give but a very limited account. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The History of the General Conference of the Mennonite Church of North America Vol 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The History of the General Conference of the Mennonite Church of North America Vol 2 Classic Reprint written by H. P. Krehbiel and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-13 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The History of the General Conference of the Mennonite Church of North America, Vol. 2 The first volume covered about thirty-six years, while this one covers about forty years from 1896 to 1935. While this is a somewhat longer period than the first, the size of this second volume is necessarily larger than the first because of the growth and expansion of Conference activities, which growth can also be seen from the constantly increasing size of the triennial Con ference reports, which form the chief source material of this book. Large parts of this have been embodied in this volume, especially reports of Boards and Committees, which makes it especially valuable as a reference book. Not only the Conference officers but also other Conference workers are in constant need of such records. And in view of the fact that the triennial reports of the Conference are not in all homes, and even where they are, they are often not filed away for ready use, this book should be in every home and library. C. E. Societies are in great need of such reference material. As it is now, they often have to write to the officers or the Boards for information, as I can testify from my 25 years' experience as secretary of one of the Boards. This book will undoubtedly be a great help in this direction. Consequently. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of the district conferences of the Mennonite Church have published a history of the beginning and the development of the congregations in their area. Until this work was finished, the South Central Mennonite Conference had not done so. Melvin Gingerich, of the Mennonite General Conference Historical Committee, urged the conference to consider the preparation of a conference history.... This task has been for me a labor of love - telling the story of the people, the places, the churches that I have been interested in throughout the years. My prayer is that this history may be both a memorial to the past and a guide and inspiration to the present and the future. From the Preface by author Paul Erb
