His parents were William Henshaw and Katherine Houghton. He and his brother, Daniel, were orphaned in 1651 and sent to America in 1652. They were raised by Reverend Mather in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Joshua married Elizabeth Sumner in 1670. They had eight children. He died in 1719 while in England trying to regain possession of his family's estate. Ancestors descendants and relatives lived mainly in England, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Indiana, Colorado and California.
