Book Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer in Porous Media Manufactured by a Space Holder Method

Download or read book Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer in Porous Media Manufactured by a Space Holder Method written by Xianke Lu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-08-27 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the effects of the material, porosity, pore size and pore shape on flow behaviour and heat transfer in microscale porous media manufactured using a space holder method. It also describes a novel approach to studying flow behaviour in non-transparent materials such as porous metals via flow visualization in transparent media that mimic the porous structure. The book employs a combination of microparticle image velocimetry – a modern, advanced technique – and pressure drop measurement – a more traditional method – that makes the mechanistic study of several phenomena possible. It covers the identification of various flow regimes and their boundaries, velocity profiles on the microscale, the heat transfer coefficient under forced convection, and the correlation between flow behaviour on the pore scale and the convective heat transfer performance of the porous media. Understanding the fundamentals of porous flow, especially on the microscale, is critical for applications of porous media in heat exchangers, catalytic convertors, chemical reactors, filtration and oil extraction. Accordingly, this book offers a valuable resource for all researchers, graduate students and engineers working in the areas of porous flow and porous materials.

This book was released on 2020-08-19 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies of fluid flow and heat transfer in a porous medium have been the subject of continuous interest for the past several decades because of the wide range of applications, such as geothermal systems, drying technologies, production of thermal isolators, control of pollutant spread in groundwater, insulation of buildings, solar power collectors, design of nuclear reactors, and compact heat exchangers, etc. There are several models for simulating porous media such as the Darcy model, Non-Darcy model, and non-equilibrium model. In porous media applications, such as the environmental impact of buried nuclear heat-generating waste, chemical reactors, thermal energy transport/storage systems, the cooling of electronic devices, etc., a temperature discrepancy between the solid matrix and the saturating fluid has been observed and recognized.

Book Transport Phenomena in Porous Media II

Download or read book Transport Phenomena in Porous Media II written by I. Pop and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-06-20 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport phenomena in porous media continues to be a field which attracts intensive research activity. This is primarily due to the fact that it plays an important and practical role in a large variety of diverse scientific applications. Transport Phenomena in Porous Media II covers a wide range of the engineering and technological applications, including both stable and unstable flows, heat and mass transfer, porosity, and turbulence.Transport Phenomena in Porous Media II is the second volume in a series emphasising the fundamentals and applications of research in porous media. It contains 16 interrelated chapters of controversial, and in some cases conflicting, research, over a wide range of topics. The first volume of this series, published in 1998, met with a very favourable reception. Transport Phenomena in Porous Media II maintains the original concept including a wide and diverse range of topics, whilst providing an up-to-date summary of recent research in the field by its leading practitioners.

Book An Experimental Determination of Heat Transfer and Flow Friction Characteristics of Perforated Material for Compact Heat Exchanger Surfaces

Download or read book An Experimental Determination of Heat Transfer and Flow Friction Characteristics of Perforated Material for Compact Heat Exchanger Surfaces written by John M. Bannon and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transient testing technique for the determination of heat transfer characteristics of a porous medium has been known since 1929. It requires a good deal of care and one of the important restrictions is that a step change in temperature must be applied to the medium at the beginning of a test run. The thesis involves the design, test and evaluation of an experimental set-up that utilizes an 'integral heater' to accomplish the step change in temperature. In addition, there is presented heat transfer and flow friction characteristics for a 20 degree skew matrix constructed from perforated nickel material. This data is compared to a 20 degree skew matrix made from stainless steel material. Also, data is presented for two 'parallel plate' matrices, one constructed from brass sheet, the other from perforated nickel material. A comparison of their relative performances is made. (Author).
