Download or read book Walker Site The Hamilton Site A Late Historic Neutral Town written by Milton J. Wright and published by University of Ottawa Press. This book was released on 1981-01-01 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These two master’s theses represent the first detailed reports on historic Neutral village sites. An analysis of the Walker site, a large ten acre, nonpalisaded Neutral Iroquois town occupied circa 1640 A.D. The site provides a comparative baseline for the study of the Neutral Iroquois and demonstrates trends and relationships extant during the late part of the Neutral sequence. Analysis indicates Neutral Iroquois occupancy of the six acre Hamilton site from circa 1638 to 1650 A.D., but the presence of a high percentage of foreign pottery raises a number of interpretational hypothesis to account for it.
Download or read book Hood Site written by Paul Anthony Lennox and published by University of Ottawa Press. This book was released on 1984-01-01 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A description, analysis and interpretation of the Hood site (AiHa-7), a large Historic Neutral town excavated during the summer of 1977. In addition to offering a glimpse of Historic Neutral life just prior to their dispersal in the mid-seventeenth century, this report provides a basis for comparison and assessment of the unusual assemblage from the nearby and contemporaneous Hamilton site. An attempt is made to explain inter-site variability through documented cultural-historical events and also by an explanation of possible sample biases. This publication also includes the report "The Bogle I and Bogle II Sites: Historic Neutral Hamlets of the Northern Tier."

Download or read book The Terrane Puzzle written by Robert B. Blodgett and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2008 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Displaced or tectonostratigraphic terranes comprise a huge portion of real estate in the North American Cordillera. Terranes are discrete, fault-bound blocks of regional extent, with rocks and fossils that differ to a great extent from those of adjacent blocks. The allochthonous nature of most terranes, relative to adjacent craton, is well established. When mapped, they resemble a collage of mixed rock types, tectonic styles, metamorphism, and volcanic origins--each part resembling the pieces of a puzzle. Terrane studies remain integral to understanding the geological evolution of western North America. Since the initiation of the concept summarized in 1979 by the late David L. Jones, the significance of fossils and stratigraphy has been key to solving the puzzle. Chapters of this book written by experts in their field, provide a sense of the diversity of approaches in paleontology and stratigraphy. Contributions span geologic time from the Precambrian (Vendian) to Cretaceous and address over 20 Cordilleran terranes."--Publisher's website.

Download or read book Coffins of the Brave written by Kevin J. Crisman and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2014-01-30 with total page 717 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Coffins of the Brave: Lake Shipwrecks of the War of 1812, archaeologist Kevin J. Crisman and his fellow contributors examine sixteen different examples of 1812-era naval and commercial shipbuilding. They range from four small prewar vessels to four 16- or 20-gun brigs, three warships of much greater size, a steamboat hull converted into an armed schooner, two gunboats, and two postwar schooners. Despite their differing degrees of preservation and archaeological study, each vessel reveals something about how its creators sought the best balance of strength, durability, capacity, stability, speed, weatherliness, and seaworthiness for the anticipated naval struggle on the lakes along the US-Canadian border. The underwater archaeology reported here has guided a new approach to understanding the events of 1812–15, one that blends the evidence in contemporary documents and images with a wealth of details derived from objects lost, discarded, and otherwise left behind. This heavily illustrated volume balances scholarly findings with lively writing, interjecting the adventure of working on shipwrecks and archaeological finds into the investigation and interpretation of a war that continues to attract interest two centuries after it was fought.

Download or read book The Hamilton Phenomenon written by Chloe Northrop and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2022-07-05 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'The Hamilton Phenomenon' brings together a diverse group of scholars including university professors and librarians, educators at community colleges, Ph.D. candidates and independent scholars, in an exploration of the celebrated Broadway hit. When Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical sensation erupted onto Broadway in 2015, scholars were underprepared for the impact the theatrical experience would have. Miranda’s use of rap, hip-hop, jazz, and Broadway show tunes provides the basis for this whirlwind showcase of America’s past through a reinterpretation of eighteenth-century history. Bound together by their shared interest in 'Hamilton: an American Musical', the authors in this volume diverge from a common touchstone to uncover the unique moment presented by this phenomenon. The two parts of this book feature different emerging themes, ranging from the meaning of the musical on stage, to how the musical is impacting pedagogy and teaching in the 21st century. The first part places Hamilton in the history of theatrical performances of the American Revolution, compares it with other musicals, and fleshes out the significance of postcolonial studies within theatrical performances. Esteemed scholars and educators provide the basis for the second part with insights on the efficacy, benefits, and pitfalls of teaching using Hamilton. Although other scholarly works have debated the historical accuracy of Hamilton, 'The Hamilton Phenomenon' benefits from more distance from the release of the musical, as well as the dissemination of the hit through traveling productions and the summer 2020 release on Disney+. Through critically engaging with Hamilton these authors unfold new insights on early American history, pedagogy, costume, race in theatrical performances, and the role of theatre in crafting interest in history.
