Book excerpt: I, Tillie Jean Rock, am not in love with my brother's teammate. Sure, he might have those biceps and that "I am the grouchiest of grouchy bears" smolder, and he might shovel snow off his driveway next door wearing nothing but boxer shorts and rubber boots, and he might be running a side business feeding all the stray goats in town, but studliness is only skin-deep. And I might flirt with him every chance I get, but I swear it's only to annoy my brother. And him. Because Max Cole? Under all of those glorious muscles and chiseled cheekbones and searing glares beats the heart of a heartless devil. I could no sooner fall in love with a guy who treats me like a kid, and judges me at every opportunity, and sets an army of garden gnomes loose on my yard, than I could fall in love with my grandfather's pet parrot. But I can definitely annoy him. I can one hundred percent get on board with annoying him. That's what you do when you don't like your neighbor, right? But you know what they say about love and hate... It's a very thin line. Especially when the real reason I'm not in love with Max Cole-that he's incapable of love-might not be true at all. The Grumpy Player Next door is a fun-filled enemies-to-lovers romcom featuring a ray of sunshine on a mission, an athlete who's only grouchy around her, and an epic prank gone wrong. It stands alone and comes complete with small-town shenanigans, a goat who's not nearly as wise as his name suggests, and proof that sometimes, love is the best kind of vengeance.

Download or read book The International Economic Crisis and the Post Soviet States written by Valentina Feklyunina and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-11 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At first, it seemed as if the international financial crisis that broke out in 2008 would have little effect in Russia and the other post-Soviet states. But, by the end of the year, growth was slowing, banks were reluctant to lend, share values had collapsed and unemployment was rising inexorably. The stability of the Putin leadership, it appeared, had been built on the turnaround in economic performance that it had managed to achieve over more than a decade. How would it cope with a sudden reversal? In Ukraine, living standards fell even more sharply. In Belarus, there were fewer obvious signs of economic difficulty, but it could hardly be unaffected by the performance of its major trading partners. Drawing on a wide range of evidence, an international group of scholars address the impact of the international financial crisis in the post-Soviet states and the continuing implications of the crisis for these countries themselves and for the wider world. This book was published as a special issue of the Journal of Communist Studies and Transition Politics, now known as East European Politics.

Book excerpt: This is a book about my experiences as a wildlife rehabilitator. The trials and tribulations of different species I have rehabilitated throughout the years. I hope you can find these anecdotes as amusing and uplifting as I have. The privilege of coming into their world makes me feel humble and at the same time honored that I am able to care for them. My goal is to ultimately be able to release back to the wild, healthy wildlife. These stories portray some of these times.

But he was not happy at home, so he returned with an army from Spain to find new treasures. He had hundreds of soldiers as well as war dogs trained to kill the enemy and pigs to feed his men. But the most important thing he brought was a large herd of Spanish horses. Most of these horses were stolen or escaped into the forest of South Carolina. There they prospered and spread around among the surviving Indians. During the French and Indian War and the Revolution, Francis Marion used them to defeat the British. These horse survive today as the Marsh Tackeys, named by the South Carolina Legislature as the state horse.

Book excerpt: Melissa Cutler is a bright new voice in contemporary romance. --New York Times bestselling author Lori Wilde Transforming their parents' rundown ranch in Catcher Creek, New Mexico, into a tourist destination is the toughest challenge the three Sorentino sisters ever faced. But now one of them has another fight on her hands--to keep from falling for the sexy town sheriff--again. . . Rachel Sorentino has spent her whole life protecting her siblings from trouble--only to run headlong into it herself. Her first regret about shooting at the vandals targeting her family ranch is that her aim wasn't better. Her second is that when bullets started flying, it was Sheriff Vaughn Cooper's number she dialed. Vaughn is the mistake she keeps on making, a cowboy lawman who cuts through Rachel's surface bravado to the vulnerability no one else sees. And no matter how inconvenient their attraction--for his career, her tangled case, and his already battered heart--there's no denying what feels so irresistibly right. . . Praise for Melissa Cutler's The Trouble With Cowboys "One hot romance from start to finish." --Carolyn Brown "Cutler grabs readers from the first page. . .one fun, passionate romp." --RT Book Reviews, 4 Stars "Sexy, savvy stuff!" –Susan Andersen
