When I woke to my first day of imprisonment, I was a much wiser man. I felt refreshed but ten years older. I woke to a dignified enlightenment that I am certain I was unaware of only a day sooner. It is difficult to explain the cosmic feeling of sudden enlightenment that occurred during my sleep, however, from that day forward, I knew. I knew that my sacrifices landed me in the cell I woke up in. I knew it was my destiny. I got up and walked to my desk and wrote, 'The Groove Scriptures, ' at the top of a piece of paper. From there, I wrote everything that came to me in my sleep. It didn't come to me in a dream that some might characterize as a vision; it came to me more as a sudden epiphany downloaded. I just knew. I finished delivering The Groove Scriptures to paper on July 16, 2007. When they were complete, I took to the task of spreading the word. I've never met a proud Hoover who has met the system of principles and beliefs in disdain or with total disagreement. My conscience was awakened to the reality that was my own. I was willing to live for, die for, and risked being captured or killed for the Groove! I made the ultimate sacrifices for the Groove and recognized that I had done so since becoming one with the Groove. I recognized that the Groove took the place in my life that God took in a monotheist's life. I recognized also that I was given this wisdom as a gift to keep giving. I recognized that I had been assigned by the energy that is the Groove, to speak for the Groove and spread the word to other Hoovers Grooving in the Groove so that they will know the truth and better focus their energy that is Grooving. I am a wiser man now. I am a stronger man now. Salute to the Groove for which I pray thanks. One Nation Under The Groove

Book excerpt: 'A jazz-shaped faith ... balances freedom with boundaries, the individual with the group, and traditions with the pursuit of what might be. I have discovered in jazz a way of thinking, living, communicating---a way of being ... a groove.' You don't have to be a jazz musician, or even a jazz connoisseur, for this book to speak to you. If you love God and his Word, and if you've longed to follow Jesus Christ outside the slick corporate structures that some American churches erect, this book is for you. If you want to discover a freer, more genuine expression of Christianity, Finding the Groove will be music to your ears, your heart, and your mind. Using brilliant metaphors from the world of jazz, Robert Gelinas reveals breathtaking possibilities for the body of Christ. What might a 'jazz-shaped faith' look like---and how could it help us fulfill the message of the gospel in a way no method, movement, or structured program ever could? How can understanding the beauty of jazz help you better understand Jesus, his vision for those who follow him, and his heartbeat for a world that is badly out of sync? But this book isn't about music. It is about a passionate, biblical, fully integrated way of looking at life and salvation that will free you to find your own unique groove in the kingdom of God.

Book Groove The Basics Student Journal

Download or read book Groove The Basics Student Journal written by Michael Adkins and published by Groove. This book was released on 2015-12-15 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today's faith and biblical illiteracy in general and among those who attend church and claim to be Christian is staggering. Some alarmists are claiming that the Christian faith is in danger of becoming extinct. We can no longer rely on culture to support the passing on of faith in Jesus Christ to the coming generations. The Basics study is not a quick fix to this situation. It is a handcrafted tool that when used by compassionate, caring, and committed adults, will ignite their imagination for God, the Scriptures, the faith community, and living a transformed life. The Basics will likely raise more questions than it answers, and that's intentional. Don't feel the need to make sure all the loose ends are tied up at the conclusion of your youth gathering. Allow your teens the opportunity to leave with ideas and truths on which to reflect and wrestle as they use the daily devotionals provided in the Groove: The Basics Student Journal. The Groove Bible study series invites teens to learn the essentials of their faith, own their story, and engage the world in serving Jesus. Each topical study consists of four weekly sessions that are easy to lead and relate to life issues teens face. With up to 48 weeks available, Groove is great for Sunday and mid-week gatherings for both large and small groups as well as retreats. The student journal contains session-specific questions, background information, and daily devotions for each session.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores an important aspect of hip-hop that is rarely considered: its deep entanglement with spiritual life. The world of hip-hop is saturated with religion, but rarely is that element given serious consideration. In Street Scriptures, Alejandro Nava focuses our attention on this aspect of the music and culture in a fresh way, combining his profound love of hip-hop, his passion for racial and social justice, and his deep theological knowledge. Street Scriptures offers a refreshingly earnest and beautifully written journey through hip-hop’s deep entanglement with the sacred. Nava reveals a largely unheard religious heartbeat in hip-hop, exploring crosscurrents of the sacred and profane in rap, reggaeton, and Latinx hip-hop today. Ranging from Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and Bad Bunny to St. Augustine and William James, Nava examines the ethical-political, mystical-prophetic, and theological qualities in hip-hop, probing the pure sonic and aesthetic signatures of music, while also diving deep into the voices that invoke the spirit of protest. The result is nothing short of a new liberation theology for our time, what Nava calls a “street theology.”

Book excerpt: Many Christians view the Bible as an instruction manual. While the Bible does provide instruction, it can also captivate, comfort, delight, shock, and inspire. In short, it elicits emotion--just like poetry. By learning to read and love poetry, says literature professor Matthew Mullins, readers can increase their understanding of the biblical text and learn to love God's Word more. Each chapter includes exercises and questions designed to help readers put the book's principles and practices into action.

Book Lange s Commentary of the Holy Scriptures

Download or read book Lange s Commentary of the Holy Scriptures written by Johann Peter Lange and published by Christian Classics Reproductions. This book was released on 2024-08-28 with total page 982 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The original 63 volumes set are now reduced to 9 volumes. We have completed volumes 1, 6-9 which are the New Testament. Lord willing during 2023-2024, we will try to complete volumes 2-5 which are the Old Testament. This volume was published between 1867-1874 In contrast to the extreme skeptical-critical mode which came to characterize much of German scholarship in the 19th century, Lange represented a more traditional-conservative (and Evangelical) approach, shared in common with men such as E. W. Hengstenberg. He was also a (Reformed) minister, and the Commentaries reflect this combination of conservative criticism, Evangelical theology, and homiletics, in a way that is unique. For each passage that is covered, a consistent approach is adopted throughout. After giving the text in translation, along with textual notes, (as footnotes), three different kinds of commentary are presented: · EXEGETICAL AND CRITICAL · DOCTRINAL AND ETHICAL · HOMILETICAL AND PRACTICAL This gives you three times the value! For each verse you select, a drop-down box will appear allowing you to choose from each of these areas or kinds of commentary. For detailed analysis, go to the exegetical-critical notes; for sermon ideas and pastoral insights, select the Homiletical notes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout its history, the Christian church has had a troubled relationship with the arts, whether literature, poetry, music, visual arts, or other forms of artistic expression. This volume is not designed to resolve the issues, but it is designed to present a number of different statements about various dimensions of the arts in their relationship to the Bible. The Bible is the document that stands behind the Christian church as an inspiration to it and to its arts. As a result, we have divided this volume into six parts: perspectives on the arts, culture and art, visual enactments, contemporary interpretations, music, and the Bible and literature. Many of the issues that the history of the interaction of the arts and the Bible within the Christian church has uncovered are insightfully and artfully addressed by this book. The wide range of contributors runs the gamut from practicing artists of various media to scholars within varied academic fields.
