Book excerpt: Chronicles of the American frontier recount innumerable stories of the men and women who brought honor to themselves as they contributed to winning the west. In this work of historical fiction, character Henry Vogler was one who chose to take his place in the annals of the American West with guile and malevolence. From a lineage of dishonest bastards, Henry grew from boyhood to manhood being educated by the street hoodlums and grifters with whom he associated. From the time he was seventeen years of age, Henry Vogler was a wanted man, pursued by the law and law-abiding citizens who attempt to administer swift and final justice to the outlaw. Trail of the Outlaw is an exciting story that will keep you interested and turning pages to discover what happens next, and is a silver medal award winner from the Independent Publishers under its original title The Bastard Trail. James Duermeyer continues to display his story-telling skill as he places the reader into the life of an American frontier outlaw, a man with virtually no redeeming qualities. Through the gritty life of the outlaw, we meet a colorful cast of characters, several of whom suffer at the hands of Vogler. Unlike many other western tales, Trail of the Outlaw follows the life of an outlaw, while sharing the lives of individuals he encounters along the way. Duermeyer’s clever introduction of a love story into the novel may lead the reader to recall two characters who also appeared in his second novel, Flint Bluff (a 2013 Silver Medal winner in the Independent Publishers Book Awards). A great frontier/Western read.

Book excerpt: "This volume represents the fourth in a series of five Class 1 Overview histories prepared by the Colorado State Office, Bureau of Land Management. The purpose of these works is to develop a synthetic history of a given area in order to provide our managers and staff specialists with a baseline overview of the history of a district. ... It must be noted that the major cities , like Denver, Colorado Springs, Boulder, Fort Collins, and Greeley are only mentioned. This is because there is no public land in these places and the Bureau's mandate is to manage the public lands, not private estates."--Foreword.

Book Blazing Texas Trails

Download or read book Blazing Texas Trails written by Mary Alice Ranieri and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-22 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These articles and poems are based on travels throughout Texas with my husband, a veteran of WWII and our two boy scouts who loved to camp out in Garner State Park, and near rocky Big Ben, returning East to cool off in healthful Mineral Wells. We took guided fishing tours from Bolivar Point to Morgan's Point and on to Port Isabel and sandy shores of Padre Island to see the endangered, white-winged, whooping cranes. Crossing Toxoma, the northernmost lake, we would pause to ponder the namesake derived from tejas, meaning friendship according to the Caddo tribe. This northern route leaves behind Dallas' cotton bowl and seven other professional teams, including Arlington, Houston and San Antonio before bumping into Oklahoma's trail of tears. Over half a century has gone by since then, but many old haunts in all directions are still thriving. Other stories have their roots in Texas but industry, or a split family, took them elsewhere. Illustrations are my paintings, and photos depict memories of favorite places.
