Book The Green Side of a Woman

Download or read book The Green Side of a Woman written by Kerstin Dahlin Hedenblad and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-08 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Green Side of a Woman, author Kerstin Dahlin Hedenblad--building on her own experience of divorce following thirty years of marriage--shares the best of her interactions with women around the world. Here, she focuses on her conversations with married women in two very different countries, Sweden and Kenya. Through these meetings, she found many common patterns in their stories, as well as great differences. Among the women, she explored universal themes of faith, hope, love, strength, commitment, and dedication--as well as fatigue, pain, struggle, forlornness, and signs of resignation. She shares the stories of three women from each country to celebrate the power of the universal female spirit. Their stories are meant to serve as wake-up calls to women of the world, especially those who have allowed themselves to be diminished in their marriages. With humour and empathy, she offers up courage, joy, pride, strength, and trust as inspiration for those still searching for their inner bliss. She hopes to inspire women to encounter reality as it really is and to give way to the power of the present. When you can accept the past and appreciate the gifts of the moment, nothing can stop you from creating new possibilities. Are you going to make yourself the source of your blame, or are you going to rise above it and thrive?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biographies of more than 800 women form the basis for Elna Green's study of the suffrage and the antisuffrage movements in the South. Green's comprehensive analysis highlights the effects that factors such as class background, marital status, educational level, and attitudes about race and gender roles had in inspiring the region's women to work in favor of, or in opposition to, their own enfranchisement. Green sketches the ranks of both movements--which included women and men, black and white--and identifies the ways in which issues of class, race, and gender determined the composition of each side. Coming from a wide array of beliefs and backgrounds, Green argues, southern women approached enfranchisement with an equally varied set of strategies and ideologies. Each camp defined and redefined itself in opposition to the other. But neither was entirely homogeneous: issues such as states' rights and the enfranchisement of black women were so divisive as to give rise to competing organizations within each group. By focusing on the grassroots constituency of each side, Green provides insight into the whole of the suffrage debate.

Download or read book The Women s Guide to Lower Scores written by Kellie Stenzel and published by Macmillan. This book was released on 2004-05 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You have managed to develop a respectable game of golf, but your score just doesn't seem to be getting any lower. We have all experienced the frustration of getting right up to the edge of the green only to throw away numerous shots with a missed chip or one too many putts, and now is the time to take responsibility for your score, and your short game will be the quickest way to do this. The short game is more different for women than any other part of the game. The short game schools are often advertised as '100 yards in', and shots of 100 yards may be a full 7 or 8 iron for many women. But the short game provides a wonderful opportunity for women to even the playing field. A good short game can compensate for a multitude of mistakes and take a lot of pressure off the full swing. By identifying strengths and weaknesses, from the smallest stroke to the largest swing and applying simple methods for quick skill improvement, you will learn to self correct and better manage your own golf game. Beginning with advice on making better decisions about shot selection and practice techniques from fairway and bunker to green, The Women's Guide to Lower Scores will take players through the steps they need to conquer the game and bring on the lower scores.

Book Stop Me If You ve Heard It

Download or read book Stop Me If You ve Heard It written by Soupy Sales and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2003-04-18 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soupy Sales was a longtime host of an event at Friars Club called “Stop Me If You’ve Heard It” where a group of comics all seated on bar stools attempt to top each other by telling a joke. By the end of the evening it’s not all that clear who actually topped who since the audience is too busy brushing tears away, doubling over in laughter, and praying their bladders remain intact before making a beeline to the bathrooms. Hilarious doesn’t even begin to describe these evenings. This event with Soupy as top banana was as highly anticipated as The Friars’ infamous Roasts, and his comic legacy endures in this book of his favorite jokes. “There is never a dull moment when Soupy is in the room. The Friars are lucky—we just have to turn around and listen to Soupy tell his hilarious jokes. Thanks to this book, though, you’ve got the next best thing—if you can’t join him, read him. The Soup is on and he’s boiling over with laughs.” - Barry Dougherty of The Friars Club

There is a lot of space in the life of a Marine that does not actually include bullet dodging, but this expanse of time could be just as tense and dangerous. Although when a Marine is on active duty, he or she must be ready at all times for any actualities. The events exemplified here took place in the closing days of the Korean Police Action when a shaky truce prevailed. These accounts are about being part of the greatest fighting force on the face of the earth, The United States Marine Corps.

Book The Richest Woman in America

Download or read book The Richest Woman in America written by Janet Wallach and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2013-06-04 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No woman in the Gilded Age made as much money as Hetty Green, America’s first female tycoon. A strong woman who forged her own path, she was worth at least $100 million by the end of her life in 1916—equal to about $2.5 billion today. Green was mocked for her simple Quaker ways and her unfashionable frugality in an era of opulence and excess; the press even nicknamed her “The Witch of Wall Street.” But those who knew her admired her wit and wisdom, and while financiers around her rose and fell as financial bubbles burst, she steadily amassed a fortune that supported businesses, churches, municipalities, and even the city of New York. Janet Wallach’s engrossing biography reveals striking parallels between past financial crises and current recession woes, and speaks not only to history buffs but to today’s investors, who just might learn a thing or two from Hetty Green.

Book Songs Sacred and Profane New and Selected Poems Greenside up and Let It All Hang Out

Download or read book Songs Sacred and Profane New and Selected Poems Greenside up and Let It All Hang Out written by Laurence W. Thomas and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2001-01-16 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Songs Sacred and Profane is a selection from Thomas' four other books and eight chapbooks plus many poems that have not appeared in book form. This volume contains, in fact, two quite different books published as one. "Greenside Up", written almost entirely looking into his garden, is made up of bucolic works which observe nature and a quiet life. They are well mannered, introspective, and show the poet's sensitivity to language and his world. "Let It All Hang Out" lets loose with poems that show Thomas' acerbic wit at times, his wry approach to human foibles, and his personal take on religion coupled with various aspects of love, mutability, and mortality.

Download or read book Roman Women s Dress written by Jan Radicke and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2022-11-07 with total page 806 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book concerns female dress in Roman life and literature. The main focus is on female Roman dress as it may have been worn in daily life in Rome and in a social environment influenced by Roman culture in the time from the beginnings of the Republic until the end of the 2nd century AD. There is, however, a certain surplus as to its contents because many Latin texts also talk about mythical Greek dress and the largely fictional early Roman dress. Altogether, large parts of the history of Roman dress are only known to us through what scholars thought about it in Classical and Late Antiquity. For this reason, this book is not only about real female Roman dress, but also about the ancient pseudo-discourse on early female Roman dress, which has been taken too seriously by modern scholarship. This pseudo-discourse has been mixed together with real facts to produce an ahistorical fabric. It therefore appeared necessary to break with this old tradition and to take a completely new path. The detailed analysis of many texts on female Roman dress is the basis of this new handbook meant for philologists, historians, and archaeologists alike.

Book Stolen Treasure

Download or read book Stolen Treasure written by Glenn Mehta and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-10-31 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stolen Treasure is a book almost 70 years in the writing! Written over the decades since 1946, this collection of observations, quotes, proverbs, witticisms and rules for living have guided the author since his youth growing up in India, through his time in the Indian Navy, and for the bulk of his life since moving to Ireland in 1960. Now in his mid-80s, the author presents a lifetime of humour and words of wisdom for a happy life in this book. A true treasure collection of one-line gems and snip-bits of lifes experiences, the book presents an insight into the observations of life over the authors lifetime that so many of us experience but never document. At first, observations from an idealistic young man are presented. This is followed by wisdom learned in early adulthood and gathered as an Officer with the Indian Navy. The observations continue from a happy lifetime in Ireland with a large focus on what the author learned about life as a husband and father, as well as engineer and lecturer, to retiree. These have been collected over the years as the author has experienced them in life or overheard them in social occasions, and carefully recorded by hand. In the decades before the internet and social media, these were the original status updates that tell a story of how life and perception of what matters has changed over almost 70 years. An intriguing read for every person of all ages and all interests.
