Book Textual and Literary Criticism of the Books of Kings

Download or read book Textual and Literary Criticism of the Books of Kings written by Julio Trebolle Barrera and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-06-08 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains a collection of the author’s life-long study (along with some new research written specifically for this book) of the text of 1-2 Kings, some of them translated into English for the first time. Julio Trebolle’s career has focused on the history of these biblical books from the triple angle of a combined textual, literary and source-compositional criticism. His usage of the Septuagint and its secondary versions like the Old Latin as a basis for the reconstruction of the history of the text is an invaluable contribution to the panorama of textual pluralism in the Bible during the Second Temple period which has emerged after the discoveries of the Dead Sea.

Download or read book The Encyclopedia of New Testament Textual Criticism written by Robert B. Waltz and published by Robert B. Waltz. This book was released on with total page 1817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a PDF based on the contents of a web site I’ve been working on for decades. I do not believe I will ever entirely finish it. But I wanted to make it available. Textual criticism is the process of recovering an ancient document from late and corrupt manuscript copies; New Testament Textual Criticism consists of trying to figure out what the New Testament originally said before scribes messed it up. Dedicated to Dr. Sally Amundson and Dr. Carol Elizabeth Anway and Lily. This version, from July 20, 2013, will probably be the last; the file is almost too large to edit.

Book The Text Critical Use of the Septuagint in Biblical Research

Download or read book The Text Critical Use of the Septuagint in Biblical Research written by Emanuel Tov and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2015-06-13 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides a practical guide for the student and scholar alike who wishes to use the Septuagint (LXX) in the text-critical analysis of the Hebrew Bible. It does not serve as another theoretical introduction to the LXX, but it provides all the practical background information needed for the integration of the LXX in biblical studies. The LXX, together with the Masoretic Text and several Qumran scrolls, remains the most significant source of information for the study of ancient Scripture, but it is written in Greek, and many technical details need to be taken into consideration when using this tool. Therefore, a practical handbook such as this is needed for the integration of the Greek translation in the study of the Hebrew Bible. The Text-Critical Use of the Septuagint in Biblical Research is based on much background information, intuition and experience, clear thinking, and a solid description of the procedures followed. The author presents his handbook after half a century of study of the Septuagint, four decades of specialized teaching experience, and involvement in several research projects focusing on the relation between the Hebrew and Greek Bibles. The first two editions of this handbook, published by Simor of Jerusalem (Jerusalem Biblical Studies 3 [1981] and 8 [1997]), received much praise but have been out of print for a considerable period. This, the third, edition presents a completely revised version of the previous editions based on the many developments that took place in the analysis of the Septuagint, the Hebrew Bible and the Qumran Scrolls. Much new information has also been added. Eisenbrauns has been involved in the marketing of the previous two editions and is proud to offer now its own completely novel edition. A must for students of the Hebrew Bible, textual criticism, the Septuagint and the other ancient translations, Dead Sea Scrolls, and Jewish Hellenism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Textual Criticism of the Bible provides a starting point for the study of both Old and New Testament textual criticism. Book Voyez de vos yeux

    Book Details:
  • Author : Pierre Auffret
  • Publisher : BRILL
  • Release : 2014-09-03
  • ISBN : 900427572X
  • Pages : 428 pages

Download or read book Voyez de vos yeux written by Pierre Auffret and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Bibliography of the Septuagint Bibliographie de la Septante 1970 1993

Download or read book Bibliography of the Septuagint Bibliographie de la Septante 1970 1993 written by Cécile Dogniez and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This volume is a successor to A Classified Bibliography of the Septuagint (Brill, Leiden 1973), by S.P. Brock, C.T. Fritsch and S. Jellicoe, for the literature on the Septuagint published between 1970 and 1993. It includes general publications on the Greek text — editions, language, translators' techniques, textual criticism, Septuagint manuscripts from Qumran and the use of the Septuagint in Ancient Judaism (Philon, Josephus) and Christianity (New Testament and Patristica). Particular studies are then classified by the individual books of the Bible, followed by literature on Oriental and Latin versions derived from the Septuagint. The studies on the illustrations of the Septuagint are included at the end. This reference tool will be indispensable for scholars or students interested in Bible, Judaism and Christianity in Late Antiquity.

Book Writing and Reading the Scroll of Isaiah Volume 2

Download or read book Writing and Reading the Scroll of Isaiah Volume 2 written by Craig C. Broyles and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second part of a 2-volume work, this study combines recent approaches that treat the formation and early interpretation of the final form of the book of Isaiah with the more conventional historical-critical methods that treat the use of traditions by Isaiah's authors and editors. Studies investigate Isaiah's use of early sacred tradition, the editing and contextualization of oracles within the Isaianic tradition itself, and the interpretation of the book of Isaiah in later traditions (as seen in the various versions of the text and various communities). Contributors of this volume include virtually all of the major scholars of Isaiah and the leading scholars of biblical interpretation in the intertestamental, New Testament, and early Jewish periods.

Book Congress Volume Basel 2001

Download or read book Congress Volume Basel 2001 written by André Lemaire and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume publishes the papers given by invitation at the 17th Congress of the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament, which was held in Basel from 5-10 August 2001. It presents a state of the art of the current exegesis of the Hebrew Bible, taking into account the latest research in general linguistics and semitic philology, as well as textual criticism (Massora Magna, Septuagint, Qumran manuscripts), ethno-sociology and archaeology. Feminist biblical studies are duly represented as well as the last research on literary criticism on the Pentateuch, especially in its relation to other ancient Near Eastern texts (Neo-assyrian and Aramaic inscriptions). Finally, two contributions throw light on the problem of religious interpretation of the Bible (Resurrection of the Dead and Biblical Theology).

Book Josua und Salomo

    Book Details:
  • Author : Christa Schäfer-Lichtenberger
  • Publisher : BRILL
  • Release : 2014-09-03
  • ISBN : 9004275827
  • Pages : 438 pages

Download or read book Josua und Salomo written by Christa Schäfer-Lichtenberger and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Josua und Salomo puts forward the thesis that the literary figure of the successor was created by circles who strongly relied on the book of Deuteronomy. In order to construct the ideal of a successor they used the characters of Joshua and Solomon and implemented the results of their theological reflection which were unleashed by the complete destruction of the pre-exilic political, social and religious organization of the nation. The figure of Joshua combines all the treats of their theological conception of an ideal political leader, whereas the figure of Solomon demonstrates the dangers which are implied in monarchical succession. From the theological perspective of deuteronomism “Solomon” and “Joshua” are opposite characters. The deuteronomic concepts of God and authority play a central role for the reflection on both characters.

Book Studies in the Targum to the Twelve Prophets

Download or read book Studies in the Targum to the Twelve Prophets written by Robert Gordon and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is concerned with the origin and development of the Targum to the Prophets, focusing for this purpose upon the Twelve Prophets (from Nahum to Malachi). A wide-ranging introductory chapter sets current research in context by surveying almost two centuries of Targumic study. It is argued that the evidence in the extant text for a Second Commonwealth phase in the Targum's history is meagre and that, in particular, the Qumran Habakkuk pesher is not dependent upon the Targum to Habakkuk. Other issues discussed are the Hebrew Vorlage of the Targum, incipit formulae, 'Additional Targum' and the standard Targum, the haggadah in the Targum to Zechariah 3 in the light of a (so-called) Eastern Aramaic linguistic element, Targum and Peshiṭta, land and divine presence, and the final redaction of the Targum.

Book Von Josua bis Jojachin

Download or read book Von Josua bis Jojachin written by Hartmut Rösel and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-09-03 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume deals with the question of the "deuteronomistic history" in the Old Testament and attempts to demonstrate that such a uniform history never existed; the books of Deuteronomy - 2 Kings do not contain such a history. The first part of the book shows that there is no homogenous conceptual framework in the deuteronomistic historical books. For example, different concepts of sin and punishment are found. Even the destruction of Judah and Jerusalem does not represent a "Leitmotiv" of divine punishment. The second part of the book deals with problems relating to the various deuteronomistic redactions in the historical books of the Old Testament. In this book the author introduces new perspectives in the discussion of a central problem of Old Testament scholarship.
