Book excerpt: "An immense treasure trove of fact-filled and highly readable fun.” --Simon Winchester, The New York Times Book Review A Sunday Times (U.K.) Best Book of 2018 and Winner of the Mary Soames Award for History An unprecedented history of the storied ship that Darwin said helped add a hemisphere to the civilized world The Enlightenment was an age of endeavors, with Britain consumed by the impulse for grand projects undertaken at speed. Endeavour was also the name given to a collier bought by the Royal Navy in 1768. It was a commonplace coal-carrying vessel that no one could have guessed would go on to become the most significant ship in the chronicle of British exploration. The first history of its kind, Peter Moore’s Endeavour: The Ship That Changed the World is a revealing and comprehensive account of the storied ship’s role in shaping the Western world. Endeavour famously carried James Cook on his first major voyage, charting for the first time New Zealand and the eastern coast of Australia. Yet it was a ship with many lives: During the battles for control of New York in 1776, she witnessed the bloody birth of the republic. As well as carrying botanists, a Polynesian priest, and the remains of the first kangaroo to arrive in Britain, she transported Newcastle coal and Hessian soldiers. NASA ultimately named a space shuttle in her honor. But to others she would be a toxic symbol of imperialism. Through careful research, Moore tells the story of one of history’s most important sailing ships, and in turn shines new light on the ambition and consequences of the Age of Enlightenment.

Book The Octadoxy

  • Author : Cometan
  • Publisher : Astronist Institution
  • Release : 2019-04-19
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 155 pages

Download or read book The Octadoxy written by Cometan and published by Astronist Institution. This book was released on 2019-04-19 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Octadoxy is the eighth disquisition of twelve which form the philosophical treatise known as The Omnidoxy with its discourses primarily concerned with the formation of the Millettarian, or Astronic eschatology which is Astronism's approach to understanding the nature of humanity's final destiny as well as the afterlife. In addition, the Octadoxy remains concerned with the nature of advancement, especially in a cosmical setting in the case of the Humanic Exploration of The Cosmos. A mid-length disquisition, the Octadoxy is preceded by the Septidoxy and followed by the Nonodoxy and is written according to the style of insentence. The Astronic eschatology is entirely predicated upon the beliefs and concepts residing within transcensionism, the belief orientation holding that humanity is not fulfilling its destiny upon The Earth and that space exploration is the ultimate fate and consequence of human existence.

Book The Astronist System

Download or read book The Astronist System written by Cometan and published by Voice of Cosmos. This book was released on 2023-07-10 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cometan began writing the Omnidoxy, the founding text of Astronism, at the age of seventeen in 2015 and this first great treatise of the Astronist religion was published in 2019. Since then, the world has been introduced to Astronism and its central doctrine of transcension and its worldview of cosmocentrism but the time has come to reflect on the Omnidoxy. The Astronist System explores the major themes of the Omnidoxy including cosmic organicism, astrogenism, returnism and transcension and provides rigorous detail on various aspects of Astronist philosophy, theology, spirituality, eschatology and soteriology. In this reflective work, Cometan also takes the time to analyse what the founding text of Astronism achieved and the legacy it has left behind for the worldwide Astronist community. Cometan's reflections on the Omnidoxy text from his current vantage point allow him to close the chapter on the Omnidoxy so that he can move forward with his writing and eventual publication of the next great Astronist treatise titled the Astrodoxy which Cometan has already titled the central text of Astronism.

  • Pages : 17 pages

Book excerpt: Rhemnology is the one-hundred and fourth instalment in the Little Blue Book Series and comprises the only first discourse of the Octadoxy, which is itself the eighth disquisition of the Omnidoxy, Astronism’s founding text. Within this single-discourse, an introduction to the inclusive discipline of rhemnology is provided which includes contemplations regarding both advancement and eschatology. This publication introduces the Astronist approach to eschatology and explores the concept of advancement in relation to the Astronist belief system. The Little Blue Book Series was created and first published by Cometan himself as a way to simplify and commercialise the immensity of the two million word length of the Omnidoxy into smaller, more bite-size publications. A successful series from its very first published entry, the Little Blue Book Series has gone on to become a symbol of Astronist commercial literature and a way for Cometan’s words to reach readers of all ages and abilities who remain daunted by the beauty and yet the sheer extensiveness of the Omnidoxy as the longest religious text in history.

Book excerpt: In this new book, Ian Markham analyzes the atheistic world view, opposing the arguments given by renowned authors of books on atheism, such as Richard Dawkins. Unlike other responses to the new atheism, Markham challenges these authors on their own ground by questioning their understanding of belief and of atheism itself. The result is a transforming introduction to Christianity that will appeal to anyone interested in this debate. A fascinating challenge to the recent spate of successful books written by high-profile atheist authors such as Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, and Sam Harris Tackles these authors on their own ground, arguing that they do not understand the nature of atheism, let alone theology and ethics Draws on ideas from Nietzsche, cosmology, and art to construct a powerful response that allows for a faith that is grounded, yet one that recognizes the reality of uncertainty Succinct, engaging, but robustly argued, this new book by a leading academic and writer contains a wealth of profound insights that show religious belief in a new light

Book Omnidoxy

    Book Details:
  • Author : Cometan
  • Publisher : Astronist Institution
  • Release : 2019-02-11
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 3357 pages

Download or read book Omnidoxy written by Cometan and published by Astronist Institution. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 3357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Omnidoxy is the founding treatise of the Astronist religion and was solely authored by the philosopher and religious founder, Cometan. Partitioned into twelve disquisitions, each of which are further divided into hundreds of discourses, which are themselves titled by those which are known as rubrals, The Omnidoxy has been codified according to a unique writing structure known as insentence. The Omnidoxy not only forms the foundations of Astronism, but it remains the primary modern contributor and the book that ignited the establishment of the Astronic tradition of religion which encompasses the philosophy of Astronism. Introducing brand new philosophical concepts such as cosmocentricity, reascensionism, transcensionism, and sentientism amongst many others, The Omnidoxy remains the principal signifier of a new era in philosophy. The Omnidoxy births hundreds of new belief orientations, schools of thought, neologisms, disciplines of study, theories, and concepts which, when combined and considered collectively, have formed the basis of Astronism. The authorship of The Omnidoxy rests with the single individual philosopher, Cometan who began writing The Omnidoxy at the age of seventeen driven by what he terms as personal inspiration. The historical origination of The Omnidoxy rests in its authorship by Brandon Taylorian during early 21st century England, specifically in the northern county of Lancashire. Like in all textual criticism, the timing and location of the codification of The Omnidoxy is integral to understanding why and how it was written, especially by considering the influential factors impacting Taylorian during his construction of the text, particularly the cultural, political, religious, and social contexts of Taylorian's personal life and of wider society at the time. This forms an important branch of study within omnidoxicology known as omnidoxical criticism, or omnidoxical exegesis in which scholars study and investigate The Omnidoxy in order to discern conclusive judgements inspired by how, where, why, by whom, for whom, and in what circumstances The Omnidoxy was written.
