Download or read book The Geologic Story of the Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado Classic Reprint written by Willis T. Lee and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-07-15 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Geologic Story of the Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado A year later, 1907, an automobile stage line was established between Estes Park and Loveland, and in 1909 Mr. Enos A. Mills began his work of urging the establishment of the national reservation. While the vast tumbled massing of mountains in Colorado became a notable landmark for the early explorers, that magnificently scenic grouping which is now the Rocky Mountain National Park became known only in later years. The reason was that, while it fronts immediately the great eastern plains, it lay apart from and between the natural passes across the Rockies. The first historical reference to this section is found in the records of the explorations of Lieut. Pike, for whom Pikes Peak was named. Scanning the snow-topped mountain barrier from the plains in November, 1806, Pike singled out its most commanding height and called it Great Peak; but he entered the mountains many miles south. This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Guide to the Geology of Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado So it is with the history of the earth, which we call geology. A great volcanic eruption took place long before the coming of man. We do not need tradition to tell us of the event; we see the crater and the hardened lava flow. Most of us take the world for granted. We do not stop to consider the forces which produced the familiar landscapes nor the series of events which the hills and the rocks record. But for him who observes closely, and carefully pieces together his scattered observations, there gradually unfolds a picture of earth history so vast in its span of time that it staggers imagination. If the information presented in the following pages affords the visitor to Rocky Mountain National Park a brief glimpse of this history, revealing to him the origin of the grand scenery which he admires, it have accomplished its purpose. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Classic Western Quarrel: A History of the Road Controversy at Colorado National Monument As a part of the National Park Service's mission to protect and interpret its resources, it is important to make valuable, historical information readily available. To further that goal, I am pleased to present this volume in our occasional series of publications on the Intermountain Region's past. This history is the first volume of Colorado National Monument's Administrative History. Other volumes relating to the creation of the monument and additional pertinent issues will be published over the next few years. The history, written by Lisa schoch-roberts as her Master's Thesis from Colorado State University, addresses many issues related to the development of the monument and its roads, the use of the roads and the importance the roads have played in the history of the monument and the surrounding area. The comprehensive coverage of the subject will aid present and future managers to protect the valuable resources at Colorado National Monument and will introduce new employees to the rich history of the monument's past.
