Book Syzygium of Sumatra

    Book Details:
  • Author : Pudji Widodo
  • Publisher : LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN : 9783845439655
  • Pages : 132 pages

Download or read book Syzygium of Sumatra written by Pudji Widodo and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Syzygium is the largest genus of Myrtaceae, comprising ca 1200 species. The history of Syzygium started when it was first described by Gaertner in 1788. For more than 100 years some authors treated its members as Eugenia. In addition, some authors recognized the existence of Acmena, Acmenosperma, Cleistocalyx, Piliocalyx, and Waterhousea which are all finally included in Syzygium. Current study showed that morphological characters in Sumatran free-petalled Syzygium are very variable. The vegetative parts such as habits, twigs, and leaves are mostly variable in shape and size, while the generative parts such as inflorescence, flowers, and fruits are variable in position, shape, size and number. One of the reasons for these is the current concept of Syzygium which is very broad including species with and without an intercotyledonary inclusion, its inflorescence solitary or in cluster, growing on old trunk, axillary, or terminal, and its calyces either calyptrate or free. In this book, three new species are recognized in this paper (S. angustovatum, S. longipetiolatum, and S. tassellum), and two new combinations (S. bisulcum, and S. perforatum).

Book Advanced Pharmacological Uses of Medicinal Plants and Natural Products

Download or read book Advanced Pharmacological Uses of Medicinal Plants and Natural Products written by Singh, Ajeet and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-02-21 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A vast majority of the world’s population lacks access to essential medicines and the provision of safe healthcare services. Medicinal plants and herbal medicines can be applied for pharmacognosy, or the discovery of new drugs, or as an aid for plant physiology studies. In recent years, there has been increased interest in the search for new chemical entities and the expression of resistance of many drugs available in the market has led to a shift in paradigm towards medicinal research. Herbal treatments, the most popular form of folk medicine, may become an important way of increasing access to healthcare services. Advanced Pharmacological Uses of Medicinal Plants and Natural Products provides emerging research exploring the theoretical and practical aspects of drug discovery from natural sources that allow for the effective treatment of human health problems without any side effects, toxicity, or drug resistance. Featuring coverage on a broad range of topics such as ethnobotany, therapeutic applications, and bioactive compounds, this book is ideally designed for pharmacologists, scientists, ethnobotanists, botanists, health researchers, professors, industry professionals, and health students in fields that include pharmaceutical drug development and discovery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This plant book aims to help identify flowering plants to genus and family level anywhere in the world. In 2014 there were very few available works which were both comprehensive and up-to-date for all the flowering plants families and genera of the world. The Flowering Plants Handbook is an easy to use identification guide to the worlds flowering plants designed for both specialists and non-specialists and from beginner to expert. The book contains descriptions of all currently recognised flowering plant families, morphological notes for 6656 genera (all current genera for 398/413 families) and over 3000 images and illustrations. Flowering plants can be identified using the book to family and much of the world's generic diversity in four 'easy' steps. Some plants will be identified correctly quickly, whilst others may require some retracing of steps and take a little more time. The advantage of this book is that it helps the user learn about the classification system and plant diversity during the identification process. This work was compiled and developed using the living, library and herbarium collections at the University of Aberdeen, Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh and Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

Book World Checklist of Myrtaceae

Download or read book World Checklist of Myrtaceae written by Rafaël Govaerts and published by Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. This book was released on 2008 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Myrtaceae is the ninth largest flowering plant family; it is economically important in the production of timber, gums, essential oils, fruits and spices, and contains many commonly cultivated ornamentals. The family is particularly rich in large genera, often found in some of the world's most threatened ecosystems, where their fruits comprise an important part of the diet of primates and birds. The similarity of Myrtaceae species is high, and its taxonomic and nomenclatural history is complex, resulting in notorious difficulties in basic identification, inventory compilation and floristic treatment. The World Checklist of Myrtaceae is a much needed work that lists all validly published names in the family, providing the source of their publication and indicating which names are currently accepted and which are synonyms. It will be respected as the standard nomenclatural reference for further research into this important family.

Book A review on phytochemical antioxidant and Hypoglycemic activity of traditionally important Syzygium spp

Download or read book A review on phytochemical antioxidant and Hypoglycemic activity of traditionally important Syzygium spp written by Dr. Savitha Rabeque C and published by Blue Rose Publishers. This book was released on 2022-04-04 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plants play a vital role in the life of every living being. The global inclination towards herbal medicine has advanced the expansion of plant-based pharmaceutical industries to a vast extent. Plants are rich in both primary as well as secondary metabolites collectively called as phytochemicals. Today, these phytochemicals in medicinal plants have received an immense importance due to their role in preventing diseases caused by oxidative stress which releases reactive oxygen species. The genus Syzygium is one of the genera of the family Myrtaceae that is native to the tropics which plays an important medicinal role all over the world. The species of the Syzygium possesses various pharmacological properties including, antioxidant, hypoglycaemic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anticancer and hepatoprotective activity. All the pharmacological properties are due to the presence of flavonol glycosides, jambolin, eugenol, quercetin, myricetin etc., This book highlights the review of ethno phyto pharmacological uses of Syzygium sps., worldwide. We hope that this book would be of great use to under graduates, postgraduates, researchers and faculty members who are studying, teaching or working in the field of Life science, Phytochemistry and Ethnopharmacology. This book could be of immense use for the researchers working in this area. I shall deeply appreciate receiving any critical comments and suggestions from the readers which would help me to improve further publications.

Book excerpt: The Pasoh Forest Reserve (pasoh FR) has been a leading center for international field research in the Asian tropical forest since the 1970s, when a joint research project was carried out by Japanese, British and Malaysian research teams with the cooperation of the University of Malaya (UM) and the Forest Research Institute (FRI, now the Forest Research Institute Malaysia, FRIM) under the International Biological Program (IBP). The main objective of the project was to provide basic information on the primary productivity ofthe tropical rain forest, which was thought to be the most productive of the world's ecosystems. After the IBP project, a collaborative program between the University of Malaya and the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, UK, for post-graduate training was carried out at Pasoh. Reproductive biology of so me dipterocarp trees featured in many of the findings arrived at through the program, contributing greatly to progress in the population genetics of rain forest trees. Since those research pro grams, apart of the Pasoh forest and its field research station have been managed by FRIM. In 1984, FRIM started a long-term ecological research program in Pasoh FR with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) and Harvard University, establishing a 50-ha plot and enumerating and mapping all trees 1 cm or more in diameter at breast height. A recensus has been conducted every 5 years.
