Book The European Audiovisual Industry and the Digital Single Market

Download or read book The European Audiovisual Industry and the Digital Single Market written by Alain Busson and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New players emerge in the audiovisual industry and offer unprecedented solutions for aggregating and distributing content. New entrants, especially social networks, have been the engines of these changes toward multitasking, multi-screening behaviours. The way of accessing and interacting with content has changed. Over the last three decades, the European Commission has been watching carefully the evolution of the media and content industries with the goal to foster growth and innovation of digital content services in the European Union, while at the same time protecting consumers in a harmonised fashion. The paper contrasts the global trends of the market, the features of the dual EU audiovisual markets with some of the recent proposals of the European Commission in the backdrop of its numerous initiatives of the last decades.

Book Digital Peripheries

Download or read book Digital Peripheries written by Petr Szczepanik and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-15 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access book. Media industry research and EU policymaking are predominantly tailored to large (and, in the latter case, Western) European markets. This open access book addresses the specific qualities of smaller media markets, highlighting their vulnerability to global digital competition and outlining survival strategies for them. New online distribution models and new trends in the consumption of audiovisual content are limited by, and pose new challenges for, existing audiovisual business models and their legal framework in the EU. The European Commission’s Digital Single Market (DSM) strategy, which was intended e.g. to remove obstacles to the cross-border distribution of audiovisual content, has triggered a heated debate on the transformation of the existing ecosystem for European screen industries. While most current discussions focus on the United States, Western Europe, and the multinational giants, this book approaches these industry trends and policy questions from the perspective of relatively small and peripheral (in terms of their population, language, cross-border cultural flows, and financial and/or symbolic capital) media markets.

Book The Future of State Aid

Download or read book The Future of State Aid written by Council of Europe and published by Defense Department. This book was released on 2012-05-25 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last major study by the European Audiovisual Observatory on the economic significance of public film support, carried out in 2009, underscored the important role played by these subsidies for the European film industry: in 2009, 280 different funds administered total aid of more than EUR 2 billion. The review of the legal provisions relating to the grant of these subsidies currently being conducted by the European Commission is therefore extremely important for the European film industry, the future of which also depends on the future of state support.

Book The EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive

Download or read book The EU Audiovisual Media Services Directive written by Mark D. Cole and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 1008 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The European audiovisual industry is one of the most dynamic markets in the European Union. The Audiovisual Media Services Directive is the bedrock of the EU's audiovisual and media policies. It regulates diverse aspects for providers of television broadcasting and on-demand services and entered into force in December 2007. Due to the volatility of a market facing convergence of media and important policy choices, for instance whether to allow product placement, Member States have struggled with the transposition of this Directive. This completely new commentary employs an innovative approach: Based on English translations, the study systematically examines the national implementing measures of the future 28 Member States (including Croatia). It sets out, article-by-article, the original provisions contained in the Directive before analysing domestic transpositions. National measures are grouped in order to reveal similarities and differences and examined for compliance with the Directive. This comparative perspective contributes to the discussions on reforms of the Directive or the EU's approach to new media services."--

Book European Cinema and Television

Download or read book European Cinema and Television written by Ib Bondebjerg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers comparative studies of the production, content, distribution and reception of film and television drama in Europe. The collection brings together scholars from the humanities and social sciences to focus on how new developments are shaped by national and European policies and practices, and on the role of film and television in our everyday lives. The chapters explore key trends in transnational European film and television fiction, addressing issues of co-production and collaboration, and of how cultural products circulate across national borders. The chapters investigate how watching film and television from neighbouring countries can be regarded as a special kind of cultural encounter with the possibility of facilitating reflections on national differences within Europe and negotiations of what characterizes a national or a European identity respectively.
