Book On the Legacy of Lutheranism in Finland

Download or read book On the Legacy of Lutheranism in Finland written by Kaius Sinnemäki and published by BoD - Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-11-19 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume analyses the societal legacy of Lutheranism in Finland by drawing on a multidisciplinary perspective from the social sciences and humanities. Involving researchers from a wide range of such fields has made it possible to provide fresh and fascinating perspectives on the relationship between Lutheranism and Finnish society. Overall the book argues that Lutheranism and secular Finnish society are deeply intertwined. This volume addresses different societal areas which have been significantly influenced by Lutheranism, but also demonstrate how Lutheranism and its institutions have themselves adapted to society. As part of an ongoing religious turn in humanities and social sciences research in Finland and other countries, this book argues that it is necessary to take religion into greater account to more fully understand current societies and cultures, as well as their futures.

Download or read book The Nordic Paul written by Lars Aejmelaeus and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2008-08-21 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains essays on the letters and theology of the Apostle Paul from leading Pauline scholars. The majority of the essays are based on papers given in the first Finnish national seminar on Paul held in the University of Helsinki in January 2007. Finnish contributions to scholarly discussion on Pauline theology have been widely recognized as challenging and thought-provoking, particularly in regards to Paul's view on the Mosaic Law and soteriology. Heikki Räisänen's view on Paul's inconsistent thinking about Law and other topics has served to polarize discussion among Finnish scholars. The opening essay by Stephen Westerholm outlines the debate and its relation to international discussion. The essays by Heikki Räisänen, Kari Kuula, and Timo Laato are fruits of this on-going discussion. Niko Huttunen approaches the question of Paul and the Law from the Stoic point of view, while Risto Saarinen examines its relation to the theology of Martin Luther. Other principal topics include Paul's opponents and methodological discussion. A comprehensive way to analyze Paul's argumentation is sought in Mika Hietanen's essay. Lauri Thurén examines how Paul's rhetoric must be taken into account when deciphering historical information from his letters. His essay takes Paul's opponents as an example. The opponents are also dealt with by Lars Aejmelaeus and Nina Pehkonen. Their essays focus on anti-Pauline opposition in Corinth and the antagonists in Philippians, respectively.

Book On the Legacy of Lutheranism in Finland

Download or read book On the Legacy of Lutheranism in Finland written by Kaius Sinnemäki and published by Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seura. This book was released on 2019-12-10 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume analyses the societal legacy of Lutheranism in Finland in broad terms. It contributes to the recent renewed interest in the history of religion in Finland and the Nordic countries by bringing together researchers in history, political science, economics, social psychology, education, linguistics, media studies, and theology to examine the mutual relationship between Lutheranism and society in Finland. The two main foci are (i) the historical effects of the Reformation and its aftermath on societal structures and on national identity, values, linguistic culture, education, and the economy, and (ii) the adaptation of the church – and its theology – to changes in the geo-political and sociocultural context. Important sub-themes include nationalism and religion, the secularization and institutionalization of traditional values, multiple Protestant ethics, and long continuities in history. Overall the book argues that large changes in societies cannot be explained via ‘secular’ factors alone, such as economic development or urbanization, but that factors pertaining to religion provide substantial explanatory power for understanding societal change and the resulting societal structures.

Book Spreading the Written Word

Download or read book Spreading the Written Word written by Kaisa Häkkinen and published by BoD - Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-01-23 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The arrival of the Reformation was the decisive impetus for literary development in Finland. The principle of Lutheranism was that the people had to get to hear and read the word of God in their own mother tongue. If there previously was no literary language, it had to be created. The first Finnish books were produced by Mikael Agricola. He was born an ordinary son of a farmer, but his dedication to his studies opened up the road to leading roles in the Finnish Church. He was able to bring a total of nine works in Finnish to print, which became the foundation of literary Finnish. This book describes the historical background of Mikael Agricola, his life, his personal networks, the Finnish works published by Agricola, research on Agricola and Agricola's role in contemporary Finnish culture. The most extensive chapter is a depiction of Agricola's Finnish. The book was written with a broad audience in mind, as a work of non-fiction for anyone interested in these subjects.

Book Holy Bible Aionian Edition Finnish Bible 1776

Download or read book Holy Bible Aionian Edition Finnish Bible 1776 written by Inc. Nainoia, Inc. and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page 828 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Holy Bible Aionian Edition: Finnish Bible 1776 Source: Finnish Bible Published, 1776 Language: Finnish The Holy Bible Aionian Edition is the world's first Bible un-translation! Free at AionianBible.org and Google Playstore! What is an un-translation? Bibles are translated into each of our languages from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek. Occasionally, the best word translation cannot be found and these words are transliterated letter by letter. Four well-known transliterations are Christ, baptism, angel, and apostle. The meaning is then preserved more accurately through context and a lexicon. The Aionian Bible un-translates and instead transliterates ten additional Aionian Glossary words to help us better understand God's love for individuals and all mankind, and the nature of after-life destinies. The key Greek word un-translated in the Aionian Bible is aionios, typically translated as eternal and also world or age. However, aionios means something much more wonderful than eternal! Ancient Greeks used the adjective aionios to mean entirety, complete, and even consummate, but never infinite time. Read Dr. Keizer, and Ramelli and Konstan for proofs. So aionios is the perfect description of God's Word which has everything we need for life and godliness! And the aionios life promised in John 3:16 is not a simple ticket to eternal life in the future, but the invitation through faith to a consummate life now! Visit AionianBible.org/Preface for further explanation. The un-translation helps us to see aionios and the additional Aionian Glossary words in context. The original translation is not changed at all and an inline note is appended to sixty-three Old Testament and two hundred three New Testament verses. Also to facilitate parallel study and use of Strong's Concordance, apocryphal text is removed and most variant verse numbering is mapped to the English standard. The Aionian Bible republishes public domain Bible texts. We thank our sources at ebible.org, unbound.biola.edu, and dbs.org.
