Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will you get to the Orwellians before the Wanstein Club get to you? The clock is ticking… Based on the global phenomenon of Escape Rooms, and following on from the international bestseller The Escape Book by Ivan Tapia, this book puts your ingenuity, wit and perseverance to the test with even more fiendish challenges, puzzles, and enigmas that you must solve to thwart the sinister Wanstein Club. Investigative journalist Candela Fuertes is at rock bottom: her fight against Castian Warnes, the head of the powerful and sinister Wanstein Club, has undermined her credibility as a journalist, and meanwhile she suspects Warnes is behind the car accident that put her boss in hospital. Corroded by the thirst for revenge, she decides to turn to the only people who can help her in a cause that seems already lost: the Orwellians, a group of hackers hell bent on revealing the secrets of the rich and famous. In order to get to the Orwellians, you and Candela must follow their trail all over London. The chapters of the book are jumbled up, and to know where to continue reading, you must solve the puzzles, optical illusions, conundrums and anagrams that you find. Each time you solve a puzzle, the number you arrive at will indicate the page from which you can continue the story.

Book Sufi Saints and State Power

  • Author : Sarah F. D. Ansari
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 1992-01-31
  • ISBN : 0521405300
  • Pages : 200 pages

Download or read book Sufi Saints and State Power written by Sarah F. D. Ansari and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1992-01-31 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Dr Sarah Ansari examines the system of political control constructed by the British in Sind between 1843 and 1947. In particular, she explores the part of the local Muslim elite, the pirs or hereditary sufi saints. Using a wealth of historical material and in depth interviews, the author looks at the development of the institution of the pir, its power base and the mechanics of the system of control into which the pirs were drawn. The overall success of the political system depended on the willingness of the elite to participate and Dr Ansari argues that it did indeed work in Sind. This enabled the British to govern while allowing the pirs to adapt to colonial rule, and later independence, without serious damage to their interests. The author demonstrates that only in the heightened nationalist atmosphere of the 1940s did the system break down.

Book Alfred Marshall s Last Challenge

Download or read book Alfred Marshall s Last Challenge written by Katia Caldari and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-07-28 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text presents Alfred Marshall’s final, unfinished, and unpublished book. His main volume, Principles of Economics, was first published in 1890, and was, for a long period of time, the textbook par excellence on which generations of economists were trained. Despite its success and its importance, the book, in its eight editions, testifies to some extent to the failure of Marshall’s original editorial project which should have consisted of multiple volumes and culminated with the publication of a final work on economic progress. Marshall’s death in 1924 made it impossible to realize his project, but many notes written for it have survived. These notes, collected here, constitute a fundamental element in fully understanding the thought and perspectives of this great economist and in appreciating his great modernity and wisdom.

Book Glenn Ford

Download or read book Glenn Ford written by Peter Ford and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 2011-05-12 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glenn Ford—star of such now-classic films as Gilda, Blackboard Jungle, The Big Heat, 3:10 to Yuma, and The Rounders—had rugged good looks, a long and successful career, and a glamorous Hollywood life. Yet the man who could be accessible and charming on screen retreated to a deeply private world he created behind closed doors. Glenn Ford: A Life chronicles the volatile life, relationships, and career of the renowned actor, beginning with his move from Canada to California and his initial discovery of theater. It follows Ford’s career in diverse media—from film to television to radio—and shows how Ford shifted effortlessly between genres, playing major roles in dramas, noir, westerns, and romances. This biography by Glenn Ford’s son, Peter Ford, offers an intimate view of a star’s private and public life. Included are exclusive interviews with family, friends, and professional associates, and snippets from the Ford family collection of diaries, letters, audiotapes, unpublished interviews, and rare candid photos. This biography tells a cautionary tale of Glenn Ford’s relentless infidelities and long, slow fade-out, but it also embraces his talent-driven career. The result is an authentic Hollywood story that isn’t afraid to reveal the truth. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an attempt to make sense of the complex process of adaptation that Chinese enterprises must go through in the course of “going out”, this book provides a multidimensional analysis of the driving forces, legal and systemic hurdles, as well as the risks and opportunities that Chinese enterprises must consider as they seek greater fortunes beyond their own borders. Comprehensive surveys conducted on a range of enterprises provide the foundation for an overview of the current state of Chinese companies operating overseas and developing trends in their overseas investment. Specific topics include key challenges that companies face, their strategies and ultimate goals, as well as their practical experience in investing abroad, especially in Belt and Road countries. Also included are the insightful views of experts, scholars and entrepreneurs with a wealth of experience in transnational investment in areas related to the globalization of Chinese enterprises, including regional investment risk, overseas talent strategies, legal and compliance issues, and even the role of technology and the Internet in cross-border e-commerce, just to name a few. It is our hope that this book will help readers better understand the current state of Chinese enterprises expanding globally, but even more importantly, we hope to provide valuable information for individual enterprises looking to “go out”, helping them clarify their investment strategies, make the most of opportunities, manage challenges and take their business to the next level.
