Returning to the USA, he held teaching positions at the Ringling Museum, the University of Illinois, Detroit Mercy, and the University of Utah before moving to Houston in 1967 to teach at Rice’s new art department. He was active in Houston during the late 1960s through the 1980s, collaborating with Earl Staley and Joe Tate on many projects, including “happenings” on the beach in Galveston. His career led him to creative undertakings all over the world. Throughout his lifetime he constantly experimented with various art media. He remained open to new ideas and new techniques until his death in Louisiana in 2010. Camblin was a central figure in the period of artistic fermentation in Houston that is now beginning to receive increasing critical attention. He chose Rowland to be his historian while still at Rice, and her insights into him are based on many personal letters and conversations. In addition, she is a trained art historian and brings to bear professional expertise about his place in regional and American art. Her work includes a useful timeline of Camblin’s exhibitions and major artworks.

Book The Death of WCW

Download or read book The Death of WCW written by R. D. Reynolds and published by ECW Press. This book was released on 2004-12 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What went wrong with WCW? In 1997, World Championship Wrestling was on top. It was the number-one pro wrestling company in the world, and the highest-rated show on cable television. Each week, fans tuned in to Monday Nitro, flocked to sold-out arenas, and carried home truckloads of WCW merchandise. Sting, Bill Goldberg, and the New World Order were household names. Superstars like Dennis Rodman and KISS jumped on the WCW bandwagon. It seemed the company could do no wrong. But by 2001, however, everything had bottomed out. The company -- having lost a whopping 95% of its audience -- was sold for next to nothing to Vince McMahon and World Wrestling Entertainment. WCW was laid to rest. How could the company lose its audience so quickly? Who was responsible for shows so horrible that fans fled in horror? What the hell happened to cause the death of one of the largest wrestling companies in the world? The Death of World Championship Wrestling is the first book to take readers through a detailed dissection of WCW's downfall.

Book Survival Knives

Download or read book Survival Knives written by James Morgan Ayres and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-11-20 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some survival guides explain the basics of how to make primitive tools. But do you know how to actually successful hunt with spear, throwing stick, bola, or primitive bow? Making tools that you do not know how to hunt with will not get you to meat. If you’re hunting with primitive weapons, especially crude survival weapons you’ve made in the field under actual survival conditions, you must adapt your strategy to the weapons available or go hungry. Author James M. Ayres grew up in the Midwest hunting squirrels, rabbits, and other small game with bows, spears, atlatls, and bolas he made myself. He has hunted with bow, spear, net, and other primitive weapons with the Lacandon in Yucatán, the Igorots in the Philippines, the K’iche’ in Guatemala, the Sasak in Indonesia, and others. In Survival Knives, he shares his knowledge so you, too, can survive using such tools and weapons. It’s not enough to have a knife and know how to make basic hunting weapons. That’s craftsmanship—not survival. Nor is it enough simply to have a knife when trapped in an emergency situation, like a collapsed building. You need to know how to conserve your knife and use it properly to escape so that it will not break and you are not injured. Learn how to use survival knives, and how to use the tools and weapons you can make with the knife—not only in wilderness, but also in urban areas, foreign countries, and disaster zones such as earthquakes, floods, fires, and civil insurrections.
