I have turned quite away from all technical, critical questions of exegesis to indicate, if I might in terse and modern phrase, the main content and bearing of the more vital portions of this well-known and widely quoted passage of scripture. My indebtedness to that excellent treatise on "The Sermon on the Mount" by Bishop Gore will be manifest to anyone who reads both books.
