Download or read book The F I T Files written by Sue Comeau and published by Sue Comeau. This book was released on 2014-08-21 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meet Finn Tilley, a successful life coach - who just happens to be 13 years old. Finn gets a panicked call from his drama-loving best friend Charlie and he knows something big is up. Whenever Charlie is stressed, his voice goes up - right now he sounds like a chipmunk on Red Bull. Charlie needs Finn's help. Charlie went to the doctor and found out his BMI is too high and he's overweight. Now his mom is threatening to take him to ICLI (I Can Lose It) meetings. Charlie is picturing himself in a room with a bunch of hungry old ladies, and he's mortified. And what the heck is BMI anyway? Can he just take some vitamins or something? Charlie needs Finn to help him sort things out. Sure, Charlie has put on a few pounds lately - he has a scooter for his mansion, and his chef bakes oversized cookies, daily. And while Finn and the rest of their friends love being active, Charlie's new favorite activity is reclining. Still, this ICLI thing seems a little drastic. Finn is on the case. After all, with a mom who's a granola-loving yoga teacher, a dad who's a coach, and a sister who dances all the time, health and fitness is a big deal in his house. He loves helping his friends when it comes to physical activity. Finn's cool as he starts investigating Charlie's situation... So why does he find himself getting weighed in front of the entire high school girls' volleyball team? Falling backwards onto his butt in front of the coolest girl ever? Or getting thrown onto some shrubs by his friend Chris (yes, she's a girl) at Charlie's mansion? Meanwhile, why has Finn's sister become so picky and grumpy? (Yikes.) In the first of The F.I.T. Files series, Finn takes us along for the ride - introducing us to his hilarious and quirky friends and family - as he helps Charlie find some balance.
Download or read book Inside PixInsight written by Warren A. Keller and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-09 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Warren Keller reveals the secrets of astro-image processing software PixInsight in a practical and easy to follow manner, allowing the reader to produce stunning astrophotographs from even mediocre data. As the first comprehensive post-processing platform to be created by astro-imagers for astro-imagers, it has for many, replaced the generic graphics editors as the software of choice. With clear instructions from Keller, astrophotographers can get the most from its tools to create amazing images. Capable of complex post-processing routines, PixInsight is also an advanced pre-processing software, through which astrophotographers calibrate and stack their exposures into completed master files. Although it is extremely powerful, PixInsight has been inadequately documented in print--until now. With screenshots to help illustrate the process, it is a vital guide.

You'll learn how to: Wrangle—transform your datasets into a form convenient for analysis Program—learn powerful R tools for solving data problems with greater clarity and ease Explore—examine your data, generate hypotheses, and quickly test them Model—provide a low-dimensional summary that captures true "signals" in your dataset Communicate—learn R Markdown for integrating prose, code, and results
Download or read book The STEREO Mission written by C.T. Russell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-07-18 with total page 643 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: C. T. Russell Originally published in the journal Space Science Reviews, Volume 136, Nos 1–4. DOI: 10. 1007/s11214-008-9344-1 © Springer Science+Business Media B. V. 2008 The Sun-Earth Connection is now an accepted fact. It has a signi cant impact on our daily lives, and its underpinnings are being pursued vigorously with missions such as the Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory, commonly known as STEREO. This was not always so. It was not until the middle of the nineteenth century that Edward Sabine connected the 11-year geomagnetic cycle with Heinrich Schwabe’s deduction of a like periodicity in the sunspot record. The clincher for many was Richard Carrington’s sighting of a great whi- light are on the Sun, on September 1, 1859, followed by a great geomagnetic storm 18 hours later. But was the Sun-Earth Connection signi cant to terrestrial denizens? Perhaps in 1859 it was not, but a century later it became so. Beginning in the 1930’s, as electrical powergrids grew in size, powercompanies began to realize that they occasionally had power blackouts during periods of intense geomagnetic activity. This correlation did not appear to be suf ciently signi cant to bring to the attention of the public but during the International Geophysical Year (IGY), when geomagnetic activity was being scrutinized intensely, the occurrence of a large North American power blackout during a great magnetic storm was impossible to ignore.
