Book Handbook on Acts and Paul s Letters Handbooks on the New Testament

Download or read book Handbook on Acts and Paul s Letters Handbooks on the New Testament written by Thomas R. Schreiner and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leading biblical scholar Thomas Schreiner provides an easy-to-navigate resource for studying and understanding the Acts of the Apostles and the Pauline Letters. This accessibly written volume summarizes the content of each major section of the biblical text to help readers quickly grasp the sense of particular passages. This is the first volume in the Handbooks on the New Testament series, which is modeled after Baker Academic's successful Old Testament handbook series. Series volumes are neither introductions nor commentaries, as they focus primarily on the content of the biblical books without getting bogged down in historical-critical questions or detailed verse-by-verse exegesis. The series will contain three volumes that span the entirety of the New Testament, with future volumes covering the Gospels and Hebrews through Revelation. Written with classroom utility and pastoral application in mind, these books will appeal to students, pastors, and laypeople alike.

Book Pillars in the History of Biblical Interpretation Volume 3

Download or read book Pillars in the History of Biblical Interpretation Volume 3 written by Stanley E. Porter and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-06-07 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third volume, like its predecessors, adds to the growing body of literature concerned with the history of biblical interpretation. With eighteen essays on nineteen biblical interpreters, volume 3 expands the scope of scholars, both traditional and modern, covered in this now multivolume series. Each chapter provides a biographical sketch of its respective scholar(s), an overview of their major contributions to the field, explanations of their theoretical and methodological approaches to interpretation, and evaluations and applications of their methods. By focusing on the contexts in which these scholars lived and worked, these essays show what defining features qualify these scholars as "pillars" in the history of biblical interpretation. While identifying a scholar as a "pillar" is somewhat subjective, this volume defines a pillar as one who has made a distinctive contribution by using and exemplifying a clear method that has pushed the discipline forward, at least within a given context and time period. This volume is ideal for any class on the history of biblical interpretation and for those who want a greater understanding of how the field of biblical studies has developed and how certain interpreters have played a formative role in that development.

Book Luke 6 40 and the Theme of Likeness Education in the New Testament

Download or read book Luke 6 40 and the Theme of Likeness Education in the New Testament written by Thomas W. Hudgins and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-01-07 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does Jesus mean when he says, "A disciple is not above his teacher, but each disciple, after being fully trained, will be like his teacher" (Luke 6:40)? This verse has been quoted, cited, and referenced in vast amounts of Christian education and discipleship literature. Nevertheless, the verse is nearly untouched in exegetical discussions with the exception of source-critical analyses. From this verse arises an undeveloped theme in the Gospel of Luke and the New Testament--the theme of likeness education. Using content analysis methodology, Luke 6:40--one of the keystone passages in Christian education literature--serves as the starting point for mining out the theme of likeness education in the New Testament. This study consists of three concentric areas of investigation: (1) Luke 6:40 and its immediate context, (2) Luke-Acts, and (3) the New Testament corpus.

Book The Eschatology of First Thessalonians

Download or read book The Eschatology of First Thessalonians written by David Luckensmeyer and published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This book was released on 2013-03-06 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
