Book The Exalted Heroine and the Triumph of Order

Download or read book The Exalted Heroine and the Triumph of Order written by K. G. Hall and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 1993 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first part of this study provides background information to the eighteenth-century English novel, and includes discussion of the relationship between literature and ideology, literary realism, the fiction reading/purchasing public, and authorial intention and technique. The second focuses on seven diverse, yet representative, novels of the period, paying particular attention to the presentation of class, women and religion in the works examined. Whilst no grand theory is proposed, the writer seeks to utilise an approach derived from sociological and Marxist thought, and to employ it as a practical mode of criticism. Although some familiarity with the novels is assumed in the individual analyses of each work, the first part of the study should be of interest to anyone curious about eighteenth-century fiction and the more general issues considered.

  • ISBN : 1594719004
  • Pages : 192 pages

Download or read book Exalted written by Sonja Corbitt and published by Ave Maria Press. This book was released on 2019-11-08 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bible Study Evangelista Sonja Corbitt, author of Unleashed and Fearless, struggled to understand Marian devotion as a new Catholic. But as the popular speaker and scripture teacher began to break open the Magnificat line by line, she found that Mary’s song was not only something she sang but also something she became—an expression of God’s loving and transforming power in the world. Combining her own story with an invitation to engage the scriptures through personal study and “God prompts,” Corbitt will help readers unlock the treasures contained within Mary’s song to her cousin Elizabeth, revealing a song that speaks to each of us in a unique way, calling us to delight in the power of God to transform us and make us into everything he created us to be so we can revel in the fullness and joy of life in Christ. Taking up each line of Mary’s declaration to Elizabeth in Luke’s Gospel, Corbitt casts new light on the inspired text, revealing how Mary rejoiced in anticipation of bearing the Messiah, glorified God for his power and mercy, foretold how God would transform the world, and praised God’s faithfulness to Abraham and his children. Corbitt proclaims that we can magnify the Lord as Mary did by imitating her with growing maturity and confidence, ourselves becoming a magnificat.

Book The Testimony of the Exalted Jesus

Download or read book The Testimony of the Exalted Jesus written by Sarah Underwood Dixon and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05-18 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interpretation of the phrase 'the testimony of Jesus' in the Book of Revelation has been the centre of much debate, with no clear consensus regarding its meaning. One of the most important but often neglected issues is whether or not the phrase can be read consistently across each instance of its occurrence. The opening lines of the Apocalypse clearly specify that 'the testimony of Jesus' is a moniker for the book of Revelation itself, indicating that the phrase is an internal self-reference to the book's own message. Nevertheless, most interpreters are reluctant to apply this interpretation to the phrase in other parts of the book, leading to varied and inconsistent interpretations of the phrase. Following the intratextual pattern of the apocalyptic books of Daniel and 1 Enoch we can see that it is entirely possible that 'the testimony of Jesus' is a reference to Revelation's own message, an interpretation which is then supported by Dixon's in-depth study of each of the passages in which the phrase occurs. The exploration of the rhetorical impact of interpreting the phrase in this way shows that 'the testimony of Jesus' is not just another title for John's writing, but is something that is given to and even characterizes those who hear the message of the Apocalypse.

Book excerpt: The Exalted Horn challenges people to take a seat at the feet of the Holy Spirit, humble themselves before the Lord and hear His voice. As children of the Most High God, we should claim our inheritance and walk in the authority that He has given to us so that our horn(strength) may be exalted in Him. When our horn is exalted in the Lord, we lead victorious lives because we rejoice in His salvation. It is very easy to stray from the Word of God and disregard Him because of the depth of our daily struggles. But, if we are willing, we can know Him as Abba Father through the help of the Holy Spirit. The author shares in this book some lessons learned at the feet of the Holy Spirit by surrendering and believing such as "Wealth","The Lust of the Eye", "Procrastination", "Sickness: Whose portion?", "The Ministry of Suffering", "Walking and Stumbling in God's House", "God's way or My Way", "The Power of Praise" and many more. She urges you to read, understand and "Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at His footstool--He is holy (Psalm 99:5). Each chapter ends with prayers to aid the reader in making direct supplications to God.

Book excerpt: A study of the exaltation of Jesus Christ as Lord based primarily on Luke's NT writings. When Jesus ascended after the resurrection, God the Father exalted Him as Lord at His right hand. "Exalted Lord" focuses on the real-life implications of Jesus' exaltation especially in relation to His ultimate defeat of sin, unbelief, and death. "Exalted Lord" can be used in groups or for individual study. From the Preface: "Every true Christian believes that Jesus died, was buried, and rose again. As important as these events are, they do not tell the whole story of Jesus. Following the resurrection, Jesus appeared on earth for forty days. On day forty, He ascended into heaven to be seated at the right hand of God the Father. Jesus " enthronement at the Father "s right hand marked the beginning of His exaltation as Lord of lords. His exaltation will culminate in His literal, bodily return to the earth, at which time He will utterly rout all of His enemies, making them His footstool.Presently, as our High Priest, Jesus is interceding for everyone who has believed on Him. As the exalted Lord of lords, Jesus also serves as a mighty general, orchestrating events on the battlefield that will lead someday to the utter defeat of all His enemies. Accordingly, even in the darkest of circumstances, we can be sure that the mighty Lord Jesus remains in control. He will win in the end. In the meantime, Jesus provides grace, power, meaning, and a sense of His presence so we might share in His victories."

Book The Ratline

Download or read book The Ratline written by Philippe Sands and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2022-03-15 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A tale of Nazi lives, mass murder, love, Cold War espionage, a mysterious death in the Vatican, and the Nazi escape route to Perón's Argentina,"the Ratline"—from the author of the internationally acclaimed, award-winning East West Street. "Hypnotic, shocking, and unputdownable." —John le Carré, internationally renowned bestselling author Baron Otto von Wächter, a lawyer, husband, and father, was also a senior SS officer and war criminal, indicted for the murder of more than a hundred thousand Poles and Jews. Although he was given a new identity and life via “the Ratline” to Argentina, the escape route taken by thousands of other Nazis, Wächter and his plan were cut short by his mysterious, shocking death in Rome. In the midst of the burgeoning Cold War, was he being recruited by the Americans or by the Soviets—or perhaps both? Or was he poisoned by one side or the other, as his son believes—or by both? With the cooperation of Wächter’s son Horst, who believes his father to have been “a good man,” award-winning author Philippe Sands draws on a trove of family correspondence to piece together Wächter’s extraordinary life before and during the war, his years evading justice, and his sudden, puzzling death. A riveting work of history, The Ratline is part historical detective story, part love story, part family memoir, and part Cold War espionage thriller.
