Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is unique in its approach to the Qur'an. It argues the point that only God could author such a book, and that Muhammad could have never produced anything like it. While this objective has been attempted by several Muslim scholars who highlighted one aspect or another of the topics highlighted in the Qur'an, Dr. Draz's works is perhaps the first that relies totally on the merits of the Qur'anic text for an irrefutable proof. Dr. Draz discusses the arguments made at the time of the Prophet and later on which suggested that the Qur'an was taught to Muhammad by various teachers, and shows how they all collapse at the first test. When he has irrefutably established the fact that the Qur'an could only be a divine revelation, Dr. Draz goes on to analyze the Qur'anic style, showing how it combines merits that could never be found together in any human writing. Equipped with a profound literary sense and a powerful Arabic style, Dr. Draz discusses the main characteristics of the Qur'anic style, as well as the unity of theme that runs through each chapter , or surah. The work is now presented to English readers as it gives students of the Qur'an valuable insight, enabling them to understand the Qur'an better.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AN INDEPENDENT BEST BOOKS ON RELIGION 2014 PICK Few things provoke controversy in the modern world like the religion brought by Prophet Muhammad. Modern media are replete with alarm over jihad, underage marriage and the threat of amputation or stoning under Shariah law. Sometimes rumor, sometimes based on fact and often misunderstood, the tenets of Islamic law and dogma were not set in the religion’s founding moments. They were developed, like in other world religions, over centuries by the clerical class of Muslim scholars. Misquoting Muhammad takes the reader back in time through Islamic civilization and traces how and why such controversies developed, offering an inside view into how key and controversial aspects of Islam took shape. From the protests of the Arab Spring to Istanbul at the fall of the Ottoman Empire, and from the ochre red walls of Delhi’s great mosques to the trade routes of the Indian Ocean world, Misquoting Muhammad lays out how Muslim intellectuals have sought to balance reason and revelation, weigh science and religion, and negotiate the eternal truths of scripture amid shifting values.

Book The Eternal Woman

  • Author : Gertrud Von Le Fort
  • Publisher : Ignatius Press
  • Release : 2010-02-02
  • ISBN : 1681494876
  • Pages : 127 pages

Download or read book The Eternal Woman written by Gertrud Von Le Fort and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2010-02-02 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foreword by Alice von Hildebrand When The Eternal Woman was first published in Germany, Europe was a battlefield of modern ideologies that would sweep away millions of lives in war and genocide. Denying the Creator, who made male and female, Nazism and Communism could only fail to appreciate the true meaning of the feminine and reduce woman to a mere instrument of the state. In the name of liberating her from the so-called tyranny of Christianity, atheism, in any form, leads to woman's enslavement. With penetrating insight Gertrud von le Fort understood the war on womanhood, and consequently on motherhood, that always coincides with an attack on the faith of the Catholic Church, which she embraced at the age of 50 in 1926. In The Eternal Woman, she counters the modern assault on the feminine not with polemical argument but with perhaps the most beautiful meditation on womanhood ever written. Taking Mary, Virgin and Mother, as her model, von le Fort reflects on the significance of woman's spiritual and physical receptivity that constitutes her very essence, as well as her role in both the creation and redemption of human beings. Mary's fiat to God is the pathway to our salvation, as it is inextricably linked with the obedience unto death of Jesus her son. Like the Son's acceptance of the Cross, Mary's acceptance of her maternity symbolizes for all mankind the self-surrender to the Creator required of every human soul. Since any woman's acceptance of motherhood is likewise a yes to God, when womanhood and motherhood are properly understood and appreciated, the nature of the soul's relationship to God is revealed.

Download or read book The Eternal Blueprint written by Bryan Kessler and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-06-28 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is God's ultimate intention? Ask most Christians this question, and you'll likely hear something like this: To save us, to glorify Himself, or to make disciples of Jesus in the nations. But what if there is something deeper? What if God has a master plan, a blueprint from which He operates, that has been hidden from many believers for centuries? The apostle Paul unveiled this mysterious plan almost 2,000 years ago in the book of Ephesians, but unfortunately, it has become a mystery once again in the church. If you've ever felt a sense of unrest over the often-shallow, man-centered modern approach to Christianity, you know there must be more. And there is. God has an ultimate intention, an original plan and purpose from which we've strayed . . . and we need to find our way back.As you will see in The Eternal Blueprint, the way back begins with rediscovering God's eternal purpose, which has driven the ages of history and will drive the eternal ages to come. Before creation, before the garden, and before the fall, the triune God had a vision for the world-a vision that includes you. What's the purpose of life? Where do you fit into God's plans for the world? For eternity? When you discover God's original intention, you will find your true purpose and meaning in life. When you understand the magnificent plan that God established before the foundation of the world, you will know the reason why you were created. As The Eternal Blueprint explains, God has issued you the invitation of a lifetime . . . literally. You were created to be the Father's, the Son's, and the Spirit's eternal inheritance. Once you understand this life-transforming truth, which is at the center of God's eternal purpose, you will never be the same.

Book The Tragedy of Almightiness

Download or read book The Tragedy of Almightiness written by Sybe Schaap and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-01-06 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Tragedy of Almightiness encircles the theme of human yearning for omnipotence, as expressed in religion and various ideologies. The central question revolves around the matter of what--in pursuing such an extreme power of the will--man seeks to achieve. While exploring the question, a thought-provoking link is made between religion and atheism; between the Biblical longing for God's promise and the Marxist appeal for man to realize that same promise. Omnipotence must vouch for the fulfilling of the promise, for justice and for man's dream of redemption. However that is not where it ends. The longing for salvation turns out to have a dangerous reverse side to it because it encourages a turning away from the actual world and the all-pervading evil. Omnipotence also facilitates the avenging of such evil. History has shown what this kind of yearning can lead to. The book demonstrates how modernity translates Biblical longings into ideologically justified revengefulness. The description of this process leads to a plea for renewed ethical purpose in life. It is a challenge that also extends to religion. Hence the reason that it is necessary to depart from the idea of omnipotence.
