Book The Economic Development of the EEC

Download or read book The Economic Development of the EEC written by Richard T. Griffiths and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authoritative volume traces the creation and development of the EEC as an institution and assesses its impact on the economic development of Europe and the policy areas under its control. The book includes a thorough discussion of the background and origins of the European Economic Community. In the early years of post-war Europe, the continuous search for a multilateral commercial agreement resulted in various plans for European commercial cooperation. These schemes were proposed less in a desire for European integration and supranational institutions, than in response to real economic problems and were the precursors to the formation of the EEC. The next section investigates the process of creating the EEC including the road to integration of the major founding members, and the attitude of the United States to European integration. Finally, it discusses the economic development of the EEC since 1957. It explores major themes including the impact of the Community on trade and agriculture and on competition and financial policy, as well as the effects of its own enlargement. The study ends with the steps towards closer union embodied in the Treaty of Maastricht, which signalled the transformation of the European Economic Community into the European Union.

Book excerpt: A book for scholars and businessmen, this examines the history of the EC-US relationship to provide a better understanding of the mutual interests that have pervaded the relationship, before discussing the impact of 1992 and the new institutional frameworks on EC-US trade. The changes stand to affect the USA more than any other trading partner; equally, the US's reaction to a united Europe is of vital importance to the EC member states. Book Americanization of the European Economy

Download or read book Americanization of the European Economy written by Harm G. Schröter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-04-19 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the main features of the world economy since the late nineteenth century has been the growing dominance of the American economy in both quantitative and qualitative terms. Aspects of this development - e.g. rationalization or the world-wide diffusion of Coca-Cola - have been researched, but largely in isolation. Americanization of the European Economy provides a comprehensive yet compact survey of the growth of American economic influence in Europe since the 1880s. Three distinct but cumulative waves of Americanization are identified. Americanization was (and still is) a complex process of technological, political, and cultural transfer, and this overview explains why and how the USA and the American model of industrial capitalism came to be accepted as the dominant paradigm of political economy in today's Europe. Americanization of the European Economy summarizes the ongoing discussion by business historians, sociologists, and political scientists and makes it accessible to all types of readers who are interested in political and economic development.
