Book The Essence Of Chaos

  • Author : Flavio Lorenzelli
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2003-09-02
  • ISBN : 0203214587

Download or read book The Essence Of Chaos written by Flavio Lorenzelli and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of chaotic systems has become a major scientific pursuit in recent years, shedding light on the apparently random behaviour observed in fields as diverse as climatology and mechanics. InThe Essence of Chaos Edward Lorenz, one of the founding fathers of Chaos and the originator of its seminal concept of the Butterfly Effect, presents his own landscape of our current understanding of the field. Lorenz presents everyday examples of chaotic behaviour, such as the toss of a coin, the pinball's path, the fall of a leaf, and explains in elementary mathematical strms how their essentially chaotic nature can be understood. His principal example involved the construction of a model of a board sliding down a ski slope. Through this model Lorenz illustrates chaotic phenomena and the related concepts of bifurcation and strange attractors. He also provides the context in which chaos can be related to the similarly emergent fields of nonlinearity, complexity and fractals. As an early pioneer of chaos, Lorenz also provides his own story of the human endeavour in developing this new field. He describes his initial encounters with chaos through his study of climate and introduces many of the personalities who contributed early breakthroughs. His seminal paper, "Does the Flap of a Butterfly's Wing in Brazil Set Off a Tornado in Texas?" is published for the first time.

Book The Will to Change

Download or read book The Will to Change written by bell hooks and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2004-01-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author of All About Love, a brave and astonishing work that challenges patriarchal culture and encourages men to reclaim the best part of themselves. Everyone needs to love and be loved—even men. But to know love, men must be able to look at the ways that patriarchal culture keeps them from knowing themselves, from being in touch with their feelings, from loving. In The Will to Change, bell hooks gets to the heart of the matter and shows men how to express the emotions that are a fundamental part of who they are—whatever their age, marital status, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. But toxic masculinity punishes those fundamental emotions, and it’s so deeply ingrained in our society that it’s hard for men to not comply—but hooks wants to help change that. With trademark candor and fierce intelligence, hooks addresses the most common concerns of men, such as fear of intimacy and loss of their patriarchal place in society, in new and challenging ways. She believes men can find the way to spiritual unity by getting back in touch with the emotionally open part of themselves—and lay claim to the rich and rewarding inner lives that have historically been the exclusive province of women.

The second section contains the step-by-step guidelines for each of the five thinking process application tools. These tools utilize sufficient cause thinking and necessary condition thinking. Third section introduces two ways that two or more of the thinking process application tools are combined, providing robust processes for the understanding and communicating problems and solutions. I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in psychotherapy, from the newest graduate student to the most experienced clinician." --SIMON H BUDMAN, Ph.D., President, Innovative Training Systems, Inc.; Faculty, Harvard Medical School "For those psychotherapists who cannot see a positive future for their art in the age of managed care and evidence-based practice, I would prescribe a simple tonic: read this book." --STEVEN C. HAYES, Ph.D., Foundation Professor and Chair, Department of Psychology, University of Nevada, Reno The Essence of Psychotherapy traces the common thread in all approaches to psychotherapy--behavioral, cognitive, psychodynamic, strategic, and humanistic--and defines their "essence" as a set of fundamental principles and ultimate objectives that must be preserved in the face of increased standardization in the field. While protocols and manuals guide today's therapist, psychotherapy, in practice, remains an art. Nicholas and Janet Cummings have gathered case studies of master therapists to illustrate the essential process of successful therapy and to show that, as an art, it is both teachable and verifiable.

Book The Essence of Religion

Download or read book The Essence of Religion written by Ludwig Feuerbach and published by Newcomb Livraria Press. This book was released on with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New 2023 translation into English from the original manuscript, with an introduction, glossary of Feuerbachian terminology and a timeline of his life and works. "The Essence of Religion" is a philosophical work published in 1841 that critiques the nature and origins of religious belief, arguing for a Darwinian-historical origin for religion, and a materialistic worldview. In this work, Feuerbach argues that religion is a product of human imagination and projection, and that its true essence can only be understood by examining the human mind and its relationship to the natural world. Schopenhauer and Nietzsche both take their satirical criticism about religion from Feuerbach, and every aspect of Marxism can be found here in Marx's favorite Philosopher. Feuerbach is a critical figure in the development of not merely Marxism, but Materialistic Humanism in general. Feuerbach is critical to understanding Marx. This is Volume VI in the 2023 The Complete Works of Ludwig Feuerbach by Newcomb Livraria Press
