Book Organic Chemistry of Enzyme Catalyzed Reactions Revised Edition

Download or read book Organic Chemistry of Enzyme Catalyzed Reactions Revised Edition written by Richard B. Silverman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2002-03-07 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Organic Chemistry of Enzyme-Catalyzed Reactions is not a book on enzymes, but rather a book on the general mechanisms involved in chemical reactions involving enzymes. An enzyme is a protein molecule in a plant or animal that causes specific reactions without itself being permanently altered or destroyed. This is a revised edition of a very successful book, which appeals to both academic and industrial markets. - Illustrates the organic mechanism associated with each enzyme-catalyzed reaction - Makes the connection between organic reaction mechanisms and enzyme mechanisms - Compiles the latest information about molecular mechanisms of enzyme reactions - Accompanied by clearly drawn structures, schemes, and figures - Includes an extensive bibliography on enzyme mechanisms covering the last 30 years - Explains how enzymes can accelerate the rates of chemical reactions with high specificity - Provides approaches to the design of inhibitors of enzyme-catalyzed reactions - Categorizes the cofactors that are appropriate for catalyzing different classes of reactions - Shows how chemical enzyme models are used for mechanistic studies - Describes catalytic antibody design and mechanism - Includes problem sets and solutions for each chapter - Written in an informal and didactic style

Book New Trends in Enzyme Catalysis and Biomimetic Chemical Reactions

Download or read book New Trends in Enzyme Catalysis and Biomimetic Chemical Reactions written by Gertz I. Likhtenshtein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enzyme catalysis is an important and vigorously developing field of basic and applied research, posing challenging problems to biochemists and chemists. This volume embraces modern areas of enzyme catalysis where other books in the field concentrate mainly on kinetic, bioorganic and biochemical aspects of the enzyme catalysis and do not cover biophysical and physicochemical problems. Topics covered include: modern physical and kinetic methods of investigation;contemporary theories of elementary chemical processes in enzymes; structure, dynamics and action mechanism of enzyme active sites; concept of pretransition state; theory of long-range electron transfer and proton translocation;mechanisms of tough biochemical reactions (dinitrogen reduction, light energy conversation, water photooxidation, hydroxilation);the achievements and problems of biomimetic chemical reactions.

Book Enzyme Active Sites and their Reaction Mechanisms

Download or read book Enzyme Active Sites and their Reaction Mechanisms written by Harry Morrison and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2020-12-02 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enzyme Active Sites and their Reaction Mechanisms provides a one-stop reference on how enzymes "work." Here, Dr. Harry Morrison, PhD and Professor Emeritus at Purdue University, provides a detailed overview of the origin and function of forty enzymes, the chemical details of their active sites, their mechanisms of action, and associated cofactors. The enzymes featured highlight a step forward, along with possible areas of application, thus supporting new research in academic and industrial labs. Each chapter is written in a clear format, including a brief summary of enzyme function and structure, a detailed description of their mechanisms of action and associated co-factors. - Offers a comprehensive, biochemical understanding of enzyme mechanisms and their reaction sites - Supports new research in academic, medical and industrial labs, connecting discoveries powered by recent advances in technology and experimental approaches to areas of application - Features short, carefully structured, actionable chapters on various enzyme classes, thus allowing for easy-use and searchability

Book excerpt: Fully updated and expanded-a solid foundation for understandingexperimental enzymology. This practical, up-to-date survey is designed for a broadspectrum of biological and chemical scientists who are beginning todelve into modern enzymology. Enzymes, Second Editionexplains the structural complexities of proteins and enzymes andthe mechanisms by which enzymes perform their catalytic functions. The book provides illustrative examples from the contemporaryliterature to guide the reader through concepts and data analysisprocedures. Clear, well-written descriptions simplify the complexmathematical treatment of enzyme kinetic data, and numerouscitations at the end of each chapter enable the reader to accessthe primary literature and more in-depth treatments of specifictopics. This Second Edition of Enzymes: A Practical Introductionto Structure, Mechanism, and Data Analysis features refinedand expanded coverage of many concepts, while retaining theintroductory nature of the book. Important new featuresinclude: A new chapter on protein-ligand binding equilibria Expanded coverage of chemical mechanisms in enzyme catalysisand experimental measurements of enzyme activity Updated and refined discussions of enzyme inhibitors andmultiple substrate reactions Coverage of current practical applications to the study ofenzymology Supplemented with appendices providing contact information forsuppliers of reagents and equipment for enzyme studies, as well asa survey of useful Internet sites and computer software forenzymatic data analysis, Enzymes, Second Edition isthe ultimate practical guide for scientists and students inbiochemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnical, medicinal, andagricultural/food-related research.

Book Enzymatic Reaction Mechanisms

Download or read book Enzymatic Reaction Mechanisms written by Perry A. Frey and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2007-01-27 with total page 1095 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Books dealing with the mechanisms of enzymatic reactions were written a generation ago. They included volumes entitled Bioorganic Mechanisms, I and II by T.C. Bruice and S.J. Benkovic, published in 1965, the volume entitled Catalysis in Chemistry and Enzymology by W.P. Jencks in 1969, and the volume entitled Enzymatic Reaction Mechanisms by C.T. Walsh in 1979. The Walsh book was based on the course taught by W.P. Jencks and R.H. Abeles at Brandeis University in the 1960's and 1970's. By the late 1970's, much more could be included about the structures of enzymes and the kinetics and mechanisms of enzymatic reactions themselves, and less emphasis was placed on chemical models. Walshs book was widely used in courses on enzymatic mechanisms for many years. Much has happened in the field of mechanistic enzymology in the past 15 to 20 years. Walshs book is both out-of-date and out-of-focus in todays world of enzymatic mechanisms. There is no longer a single volume or a small collection of volumes to which students can be directed to obtain a clear understanding of the state of knowledge regarding the chemicals mechanisms by which enzymes catalyze biological reactions. There is no single volume to which medicinal chemists and biotechnologists can refer on the subject of enzymatic mechanisms. Practitioners in the field have recognized a need for a new book on enzymatic mechanisms for more than ten years, and several, including Walsh, have considered undertaking to modernize Walshs book. However, these good intentions have been abandoned for one reason or another. The great size of the knowledge base in mechanistic enzymology has been a deterrent. It seems too large a subject for a single author, and it is difficult for several authors to coordinate their work to mutual satisfaction. This text by Perry A. Frey and Adrian D. Hegeman accomplishes this feat, producing the long-awaited replacement for Walshs classic text.
