Book excerpt: The biblical meaning of the word Restoration is "to receive back more than has been lost to the point where the final state is greater than the original condition." The main point is that someone or something is improved beyond measure. Nurses go into this profession to fulfill a passion to help others, but over time that passion may lessen in light of some of the professional challenges they may face. This book explores the journey of one nurse practitioner as she transitions through education to employment, from employment to entrepreneurship; including the tragedies and triumphs of everyday life. Identified within her experiences are skill sets and best practices that are transferable from direct care giving to business leadership; innovation, ingenuity, project management, and perseverance. Although additional skills may need to be acquired for nurses to transition to entrepreneurship, the information needed is readily available, they just need to know where to look. Investing in Coaching or Mentoring services from someone who is established in your area of practice can be the most critical part of your strategic plan, the return on investment can be innumerable in terms of loss prevention of time and finances, among other benefits. It is my sincere desire that Aspiring students, Nurse Practitioners, NP entrepreneurs, and NP Educators who read this book will be empowered and inspired with the knowledge that their purpose lies within. Book Nurses Bred for Business

Download or read book Nurses Bred for Business written by Robert C. Saunders and published by . This book was released on 2017-09-21 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If someone were to ask me: What one defining moment prompted me to write this book? I would have to say it was when I attended small local business networking meeting and the guest speaker said "If you have been punching a clock for the last 10 years or more, then you have been asleep at the wheel of your own life, and working on achieving someone else's dream and not your own!!" That statement hit me right between the eyes. Most of us are breathing but not truly alive, so it is high time that we awaken from the blissful slumber of the routine and mundane. Awaken from the fanciful notion that someone else is ultimately responsible for making our dreams come true as nurses. The reality of a free market world economy has always been that each of us is ultimately responsible for our personal financial future. We should not have to face another stock market crash, real estate bust or massive health industry shakedown to realize that each of us must learn to take the helm of our own economic ship. The days of working for and employer till retirement is a stone age model of exchanging time for money. The title of the book makes the assertion that not only must we think along entrepreneurial lines in an age of entrepreneurism, but our unique skill sets as nurses have groomed us for financial independence in ways one may have not thought possible. Throughout the pages of this book the author asserts that, indeed and in fact, more and more nurse are awakening to a transitional and transformational shift to nurse entrepreneurs as a natural course of our training. Nurses Bred for Business is not theoretical notion, it is an identifiable statement as to the natural progression of who and what nurses have always been. The question is; will you awaken to your rightful destiny and join the ever growing legions of nurse entrepreneurs? In the pages that follow, unfolding challenges rapidly altering the healthcare community beg the need to completely rethink the present and future direction of nurses and, by extension, all healthcare workers. Part 1 of the book delves into what exactly are entrepreneurs and seeks to equivocate the daily nursing hospital experience to daily real world business experience. In Part 2 of the book the author takes you on a fantastic journey of his own entrepreneurial failures and the hard lessons learned. All of us can and should wisely capitalize upon the failures of others instead of own. ( the very definition of wisdom) Utilizing the raw materials from these hard lessons as a foundation upon which to build ever greater personal and professional successes. Part 3 of the book provides a glossary of business terms by chapter that seeks to expand upon the concepts and ideas introduced. Like any new learning, the goal should be to continually expand ones money making vocabulary. Lastly, the author gives a delicious synopsis of what are his 25 favorite financial books that when properly applied will exponentially and continually expand the fiscal dimensions of each individual's business philosophy. Your entrepreneurial journey begins....now.

Book The Future of Nursing

  • Author : Institute of Medicine
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 2011-02-08
  • ISBN : 0309208955
  • Pages : 700 pages

Download or read book The Future of Nursing written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-02-08 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Future of Nursing explores how nurses' roles, responsibilities, and education should change significantly to meet the increased demand for care that will be created by health care reform and to advance improvements in America's increasingly complex health system. At more than 3 million in number, nurses make up the single largest segment of the health care work force. They also spend the greatest amount of time in delivering patient care as a profession. Nurses therefore have valuable insights and unique abilities to contribute as partners with other health care professionals in improving the quality and safety of care as envisioned in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enacted this year. Nurses should be fully engaged with other health professionals and assume leadership roles in redesigning care in the United States. To ensure its members are well-prepared, the profession should institute residency training for nurses, increase the percentage of nurses who attain a bachelor's degree to 80 percent by 2020, and double the number who pursue doctorates. Furthermore, regulatory and institutional obstacles-including limits on nurses' scope of practice-should be removed so that the health system can reap the full benefit of nurses' training, skills, and knowledge in patient care. In this book, the Institute of Medicine makes recommendations for an action-oriented blueprint for the future of nursing.
