Book The Electrical Resistivity of Metals and Alloys

Download or read book The Electrical Resistivity of Metals and Alloys written by Paul L. Rossiter and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1991-03-07 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in paperback, this comprehensive book is the first text devoted to the problem of understanding the electrical properties of metals and alloys. Dr Rossiter, well-known for his work on the electrical resistivity of alloys, has written a book which blends results and theory, but does not rely on a strong grounding in quantum mechanics. After an introduction to the basic ideas, the concepts of atomic and magnetic correlations and their microstructural consequences are explained. Later chapters then deal with the effects of such correlations on electrical resistivity. Examples and applications of the concepts derived are given in discrete sections, allowing the uninterrupted development of theory for each specific problem, and enhancing the value of the book for a wide range of readers from theoretical and experimental solid state physicists to metallurgists and materials scientists. Anyone with an interest in the electrical conduction process or in the application of resistivity measurements to the study of alloy configuration will find this essential reading.

Download or read book Condensed Matter written by Dr. S. K. Srivastave and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with different aspects of the structure and properties of disordered materials. Whenever the normal state of matter is affected by internal or external agencies and new states are developed, it is generally observed that the new materials possess disordered structures. However, some characteristics (such as the electronic and ionic) remain similar to those of crystalline solids. Such isotropic materials are also termed disordered solids. This book surveys the physics of materials like non transition-transition metals and alloys in their solid and liquid phases, liquid-amorphous solids and materials with super structures like fullerene lattices etc. The advancements in these materials which possess unusual physical properties provide exciting possibilities for technology and industry. Up-to-date investigations about theoretical and experimental techniques are presented here. The reviews on different materials were prepared by renowned experts in the corresponding areas.

Book Electrons in Disordered Metals and at Metallic Surfaces

Download or read book Electrons in Disordered Metals and at Metallic Surfaces written by P. Phariseau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present here the transcripts of lectures and talks which were delivered at the NATO ADVANCED STUDY INSTITUTE "Electrons in Disordered Hetals and at ~~etallic Surfaces" held at the State University of Ghent, Belgium between August 28 and September 9, 1978. The aim of these lectures was to highlight some of the current progress in our understanding of the degenerate electron 'liquid' in an external field which is neither uniform nor periodic. This theme brought together such topics as the electronic structure at metallic surfaces and in random metallic alloys, liquid metals and metallic glasses. As is the case in connection with infinite order ed crystals, the central issues to be discussed were the nature of the electronic spectra, the stability of the various phases and the occurrence of such phenomena as magnetism and supercon ductivity. In the theoretical lectures the emphasis was on detailed rea listic calculations based, more or less, on the density functional approach to the problem of the inhomogeneous electron liquid. How ever, where such calculations were not available, as in the case of magnetism in random alloys and that of metallic glasses, sim pler phenomenological models were used. The theoretical discussions were balanced by reviews of the most promising experimental techniques. Here the stress was on results and their relevance to the fundamental theory. lforeover, the attention had centered on those experiments which probe the electronic structure in the greatest detail.

Book Electrical Properties of Solids

Download or read book Electrical Properties of Solids written by T. F. Connolly and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1963 the Research Materials Information Center has been answering inquiries on the availability, preparation, and properties of ultrapure inorganic research specimens. It has been possible to do this with reasonable efficiency by searching an automated coded microfilm collection of the report and open literature and of data sheets and question naires provided by commercial and research producers of pure materials. With the growth of the collection to over 70,000 documents and the increase in the demand for more general background information, it has been necessary to compile bibliographies on an increasing variety of subjects. These have been used as indexes to the microfilmed documents for more efficient searching, and in the past distributed in response to individual requests. However, their size and number no longer permit so casual and uneconomic a method of distribution. The "ORNL Solid State Physics Literature Guides" is a practical alternative. Organization The subject organization of the bibliography is given by the Table of Contents. Each section is preceded by a collection of reviews, bibliographies, and "general" papers (i.e., those dealing with methods or equipment rather than single materials, or with such a wide variety of materials that no subsection was appropriate). Coverage is generally from 1960 to mid-1970. Emphasis is on inorganic materials.

Book Treatise on Materials Science and Technology

Download or read book Treatise on Materials Science and Technology written by Herbert Herman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treatise on Materials Science and Technology, Volume 20: Ultrarapid Quenching of Liquid Alloys investigates the relationship between the science and utility of materials, with emphasis on the ultrarapid quenching of liquid alloys. Topics covered range from rapid solidification of non-metals and crystalline iron-base alloys to corrosion behavior of amorphous alloys. Experimental methods in rapid quenching from the melt are also discussed. This volume is comprised of nine chapters and begins with a historical overview of various methods that have evolved for producing rapidly solidified materials. The criteria for the formation of highly metastable states and how these relate to experiment are described. Subsequent chapters explore rapid solidification of non-metals; the industrial implications of rapid solidification of iron-based alloys by means of plasma spraying; annealing effects in metallic glasses; and the corrosion behavior of amorphous alloys. The mechanical properties of metallic glasses are also considered, along with the electrical properties of rapidly solidified materials. This book should be of interest to materials scientists and engineers as well as metallurgists, researchers, and students.
