Each case begins with a short description of the initial patient presentation and the learning objectives and goals the subsequent case discussion will demonstrate. This is accompanied by relevant medical and dental histories, notes on extra-oral and soft tissue examination and a thorough list of clinical findings, all presented in bulleted from to facilitate ease of learning. Clinical decision making factors are then discussed in detail, well illustrated with multiple clinical photos showing progressive stages of treatment. Cases conclude with review questions and relevant literature citations supporting each answer. Book Early age Orthodontic Treatment

Download or read book Early age Orthodontic Treatment written by Aliakbar Bahreman and published by Quintessence Publishing (IL). This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents readers with the information necessary to understand the morphogenesis of orthodontic problems, to differentiate among various conditions, and to apply early intervention approaches to optimal effect. Through integration of basic science and clinical practice, detailed case reports, and abundant illustrations, the author: * Provides an overview of dental development, from tooth formation to permanent occlusion. * Emphasizes the developmental stages that must be recognized during patient examination to facilitate differential diagnosis. * Presents clear, step-by-step instructions for different treatment options. * Demonstrates the benefits achieved by intervention in developing malocclusions and guidance of eruption. The discussions in part 1 of the concept of early-age treatment and the basic foundation of occlusal development empower practitioners to detect anomalies and intervene as necessary. Part 2 consists of chapters explaining the ontogeny, diagnosis, and early detection of, as well as the proper intervention for, nonskeletal problems. Part 3 includes chapters on early intervention for dentoskeletal problems in the sagittal, transverse, and vertical dimensions. This book cuts through the controversy surrounding early versus late treatment and shows that clinicians must decide on a case-by-case basis when to provide orthodontic treatment.

Book Craniomandibular Muscles

Download or read book Craniomandibular Muscles written by Arthur J. Miller and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive scientific investigation into every aspect of craniomandibular muscle function in both human and experimental animal studies. Topics discussed cover three broad areas: the anatomical, physiological, and histochemical aspects of these muscles; the special importance of these muscles to resting mandibular posture and mastication; and their role in clinically relevant problems involved with occlusion, craniomandibular disorders, and the growth and development of the cranioskeleton. Over 150 figures and tables are used to illustrate the concepts in these three areas. Methods for studying craniomandibular muscles are examined in depth, and the use of classically defined techniques such as electromyography and newer approaches using magnetic resonance spectroscopy and immunological identification of contractile proteins are discussed. Specialists in oral biology, orthodontics, oral surgery, prosthodontics, and craniomandibular disorders in schools and in private practice should consider this book an indispensable resource for their work and studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twin Block appliances are simple bite blocks that are designed for full-time wear. They achieve rapid functional correction of malocclusion (misalignment of upper and lower teeth) by the transmission of favourable occlusal forces to occlusal inclined planes that cover the posterior teeth. The forces of occlusion are used as the functional mechanism to correct the malocclusion (www.twinblocks.com). Beginning with an introduction to orthodontics and twin blocks, the next chapters describe growth studies and diagnosis and treatment planning. Each of the following sections discusses the use of twin blocks for different types of malocclusion. With a focus on the latest developments in functional therapy, the book offers guidance on diagnosis, treatment planning, case selection, appliance design and clinical management. Written by the internationally recognised Orthodontist William Clark from Fife, UK, who also invented Twin Blocks, this comprehensive guide includes nearly 600 clinical photographs and illustrations. Book The Neural Basis of Oral and Facial Function

Download or read book The Neural Basis of Oral and Facial Function written by Ronald Dubner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a result of our combined major interests in oral and facial function. Since most of our research efforts have been concentrated on fundamental neural mechanisms, the book emphasizes basic research in this area. However, our back grounds in clinical dentistry have always made us acutely aware of the relevance of these findings to clinical problems in dentistry and medicine, and such correlations are emphasized throughout the text. The term, "oral and facial function," will here include the sensory and motor neural mechanisms of the face, mouth, pharynx, and larynx. Detailed discussions of nasal function, olfaction, and speech mechanisms have been omitted; these areas would encompass a book in themselves. A chapter on the subject of taste presents a brief overview in relation to other chapters in the book and clinical significance. We have not intended each chapter to be a review of the literature in a given area but have chosen to emphasize significant findings for total function of the area. References are limited to review articles whenever possible and the reader is invited to search such reviews for original articles of interest. Where such reviews are not available, original articles are usually referenced so that the book provides a path to source material for those so inclined. Some of the chapters on special areas of interest such as teeth, periodontium, and jaw reflexes, however, are extensively referenced because of their unique relationship to the subject matter of the book.
