Book The Effectiveness of Construction Incentives for Concrete Pavements

Download or read book The Effectiveness of Construction Incentives for Concrete Pavements written by Khaled Ksaibati and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a study jointly conducted by the University of Wyoming and the Wyoming Department of Transportation to examine the effect of construction Profilograph Index (PI) values on long-term roughness measurements of concrete pavements. The objectives of this study were to determine if increased initial pavement smoothness had any lasting effects on the pavement smoothness. The study consisted of selecting 175 test sections in eight different interstate projects, obtaining construction and roughness data, compiling the data in a computerized data base, and conducting statistical analysis. The analysis resulted in the observation that when the initial roughness of concrete sections are less than 7 in. per mile, a slightly rougher section does not necessarily deteriorate faster than a slightly smoother section.

Book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance

Download or read book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance written by Norbert Delatte and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing the interactions between the different design and construction variables and techniques this book illustrates best practices for constructing economical, long life concrete pavements. The book proceeds in much the same way as a pavement construction project. First, different alternatives for concrete pavement solutions are outlined. The desired performance and behaviour parameters are identified. Next, appropriate materials are outlined and the most suitable concrete proportions determined. The design can be completed, and then the necessary construction steps for translating the design into a durable facility are carried out. Although the focus reflects highways as the most common application, special features of airport, industrial, and light duty pavements are also addressed. Use is made of modeling and performance tools such as HIPERPAV and LTPP to illustrate behavior and performance, along with some case studies. As concrete pavements are more complex than they seem, and the costs of mistakes or of over-design can be high, this is a valuable book for engineers in both the public and private sectors.

Book Development and Implementation of a Performance related Specification for a Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement I 39 90 94 Madison Wisconsin

Download or read book Development and Implementation of a Performance related Specification for a Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement I 39 90 94 Madison Wisconsin written by S. P. Rao and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary objective of this study was to develop, implement, and evaluate a Level 1 performance-related specification (PRS) for the construction of a jointed plain concrete (JPC) pavement in the State of Wisconsin. The research entailed a thorough evaluation of the construction quality levels achieved on recent Wisconsin JPC projects and the formulation of a Level 1 PRS using the results of the quality evaluation and defined Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) pavement practices as a basis. Feedback from WisDOT and the contractor indicated that this first PRS implementation in Wisconsin was successful, particularly with respect to the layouts of lots and sublots. Several suggestions were received to improve and streamline the PRS process.

Book Construction and Rehabilitation of Concrete Pavements Under Traffic

Download or read book Construction and Rehabilitation of Concrete Pavements Under Traffic written by Shreenath P. Rao and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With advancements in materials, equipment, placement procedures, and project management techniques, the construction and rehabilitation of concrete pavements can be effectively accomplished under traffic. Many projects have been constructed under varying levels of traffic, ranging from temporary closures to the maintenance of high traffic volumes adjacent to or through the projects. However, the current state of the practice in constructing or rehabilitating concrete pavements under traffic relies primarily on a few high-profile and well-documented projects. This study identified practices from projects representing a wider range of conditions and techniques. Information on existing practices and advancements in concrete pavement construction and rehabilitation was gathered through literature reviews and a survey of state transportation agencies, including that of the District of Columbia and the Illinois Tollway. Furthermore, sixteen case examples were reported to illustrate successful projects conducted under a variety of scenarios.

Book Development of Performance related Specifications for Portland Cement Concrete Pavement Construction

Download or read book Development of Performance related Specifications for Portland Cement Concrete Pavement Construction written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary product of this study was a demonstration performance -related specification (PRS) system for PCC pavement construction. The system is designed to consider three key factors (ie, PCC strength, slab thickness and initial serviceability) in assessing an as-constructed pavement delivered by a contractor and calculating an appropriate reward (bonus/incentive) or penalty (disincentive). Many pavement performance prediction relationships and PCC property prediction equations were evaluated to develop the performance-related aspects of the new system. In addition, a rather intensive experimental laboratory study of PCC material properties was conducted to develop better multi-factor prediction relationships. The demonstration PRS was developed using a computerized spreadsheet program.

Book Performance related Specifications for Highway Construction and Rehabilitation

Download or read book Performance related Specifications for Highway Construction and Rehabilitation written by William P. Chamberlin and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1995 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to administrators, including contract and specifications administrators; research, construction, materials, specification, and design engineers; agency project managers and staff; and highway construction contractors. It describes the state of the practice with respect to the development and present status of performance-related specifications (PRS) for highway materials and construction. This report of the Transportation Research Board summarizes the historical events that have prompted U.S. interest in PRS development and describes the underlying concepts. In addition, it describes current practice with regard to PRS implementation and refers to the principal PRS literature with emphasis on performance and cost models. It emphasizes the utility of PRS in providing objective/ rational measures that can be used for special contract conditions, such as incentive or disincentive adjustments.
