Download or read book Impact of Asphalt Thickness on Pavement Quality written by Rebecca S. McDaniel and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 537: Impact of Asphalt Thickness on Pavement Quality documents transportation agency policy for lift thickness and minimum compaction requirements on resultant asphalt pavement quality. To achieve expected pavement performance, it is important that asphalt concrete (AC) have adequate density. A critical factor in achieving this density is the ratio of lift thickness to nominal maximum aggregate size (t/NMAS). The information in the report is designed to help make agencies aware of a range of practices other agencies use to achieve a desired t/NMAS ratio, ensuring that density of AC is adequate to meet expected pavement performance.
Download or read book Relationship of Air Voids Lift Thickness and Permeability in Hot Mix Asphalt Pavements written by E. Ray Brown and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2004 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 531: Relationship of Air Voids, Lift Thickness, and Permeability in Hot-Mix Asphalt Pavements provides guidance for hot-mix asphalt pavement construction designed to achieve satisfactory levels of in-place air voids and permeability. This guidance was developed from the findings of a research project that examined the relationship of air voids content to permeability and hot-mix asphalt lift thickness. The full finding of the research were published as NCHRP Web Document 68"--Publisher's description.

Download or read book A Study of Factors Affecting the Permeability of Superpave Mixes in Kansas written by Aneel Gogula and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laboratory (falling head) permeability tests were conducted on different Superpave mixtures with 19 mm and 12.5 mm nominal maximum aggregate sizes (NMAS), and coarse and fine gradations, to identify factors that affect the permeability of these mixtures in Kansas. Hamburg wheel tests were performed to study rutting and stripping potential of these mixtures. Field permeability tests were also conducted on different projects with 19 mm and 12.5 mm NMAS Superpave mixtures in order to study the correlation between laboratory-measured and field permeability values. The results show that for any given nominal maximum size Superpave mixture, the fine-graded mixture is generally less permeable than the coarse-graded mixtures.
