Book Crop Protection Research Advances

Download or read book Crop Protection Research Advances written by Earl N. Burton and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book & CD. Most crop protection deals with the development and promotion of socially and environmentally acceptable technologies to reduce crop losses from pests. Crop protection also deals with protecting crops from weeds, insects and diseases primarily to increase yield. The use of crop protection products secures yields, reduces crop losses and helps provide a sufficient and sustainable supply of healthy and safe food at affordable prices. Ultimately, crop protection tries to increase global food demand. It also deals with efforts to assure food quality and safety. This book presents the latest research from around the globe.

Book Advances in Agronomy

Download or read book Advances in Agronomy written by and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-10-11 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 71 contains six outstanding reviews that discuss cutting edge developments in the crop and soil sciences. Chapter 1 addresses advances in the development, use, and evaluation of controlled release fertilizers. Chapter 2 is a comprehensive review of developments in breeding crops for increased nutritional value. Historical and current advances in the field are covered as well as selection in methodology and employment of molecular biology tools. Chapter 3 is a comprehensive treatment of remaking bean plant architecture for efficient production. Chapter 4 is a review on carbon sequestration, specifically, the potential of world cropland solid to serve as a source of atmospheric carbon. Chapter 5 discusses the ability of grain legumes (pulses) to adapt to water-limited environments. Chapter 6 describes and applies an important water quality model - the root zone water quality model (RZWQM). The model is described and discussion is provided on the calibration and application in laboratory and field settings.

Book Plant Resistance to Arthropods

Download or read book Plant Resistance to Arthropods written by C. Michael Smith and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-16 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book synthesizes new information about the environmental advantages of plant resistance, transgenic resistance, the molecular bases of resistance, and the use of molecular markers to map resistance genes. Readers are presented in-depth descriptions of techniques to quantify resistance, factors affecting resistance expression, and the deployment of resistance genes. New information about gene-for-gene interactions between resistant plants and arthropod biotypes is discussed along with the recent examples of using arthropod resistant plants in integrated pest management systems.

Book Plant Cell Walls

    Book Details:
  • Author : Nicholas C. Carpita
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2012-12-06
  • ISBN : 9401006687
  • Pages : 333 pages

Download or read book Plant Cell Walls written by Nicholas C. Carpita and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a comprehensive collection of articles that cover aspects of cell wall research in the genomic era. Some 2500 genes are involved in some way in wall biogenesis and turnover, from generation of substrates, to polysaccharide and lignin synthesis, assembly, and rearrangement in the wall. Although a great number of genes and gene families remain to be characterized, this issue provides a census of the genes that have been discovered so far. The articles comprising this issue not only illustrate the enormous progress made in identifying the wealth of wall-related genes but they also show the future directions and how far we have to go. As cell walls are an enormously important source of raw material, we anticipate that cell-wall-related genes are of significant economic importance. Examples include the modification of pectin-cross-linking or cell-cell adhesion to increase shelf life of fruits and vegetables, the enhancement of dietary fiber contents of cereals, the improvement of yield and quality of fibers, and the relative allocation of carbon to wall biomass for use as biofuels. The book is intended for academic and professional scientists working in the area of plant biology as well as material chemists and engineers, and food scientists who define new ways to use cell walls.
