Book Arctic Economics in the 21st Century

Download or read book Arctic Economics in the 21st Century written by Heather A. Conley and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arctic Economics in the 21st Century explores the key economic dynamics at play in the rapidly changing Arctic region. This report evaluates both the economic benefits of an increasingly open Arctic region and the costs of exploring the riches of the American Arctic. It frames an economic strategy built upon six critical economic components: mineral resources, oil and gas development, shipping, fisheries, tourism, and finally, the regional infrastructure required to support and sustain the first five components. The report analyzes the increasingly prominent role of the private sector in Arctic development and its interplay with the potentially diminished traditional role of governments in the region.

Book The Battle for the Worldwide Natural Resources International Strategies and their Impacts

Download or read book The Battle for the Worldwide Natural Resources International Strategies and their Impacts written by Silvio Wilde and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2012-01-29 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, University of Applied Sciences Essen, language: English, abstract: This assignment contemplates the discussion about the present conflict for the Arctic region, including the applicants’ claims for Arctic natural resources. The major focus of this work therefore is, as mentioned in the assignment’s subject, analysing the ‘battle for natural resources’ as well as the impact for the involved economies. During the investigation it was determined that experts of different scientific institutions do not come to the consensus about the available amount of raw materials, especially oil and gas, which are focused in this paper. Due to the scarcity of depletable resources their importance increases and with it the run for the Arctic and its treasures. Although the amount of these resources in relation to the known sources is assumed to be low, every new discovered deposit is of great importance for the potential owner and for the world economy. As the Arctic is located in the high seas, there is currently no existing legislation for the case of claiming the present resources except the admiralty law. Generally, this is a unique case in world history. Among the applicants for the different regions of the Arctic there are several conflicts about the exact borderlines.

Book The Political Economy of Natural Gas

Download or read book The Political Economy of Natural Gas written by Ferdinand E. Banks and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 180 pages. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1987 this book presents a comprehensive survey of the global natural gas industry: it looks at the problems of supply, the pattern of demand, the economics of the industrya nd how the industry in the 1980s was being affected by changes in other energy sectors. As a key commodity in the world economy the supply of natural gas is increasingly affecting and changing international relations between importer and supplier countries: the siberian natural gas pipeline which supplies Soviet gas to Western Europe is a key example of the impact of natural gas on international relations and one which is discussed in the book.

Book International Arctic Petroleum Cooperation

Download or read book International Arctic Petroleum Cooperation written by Anatoli Bourmistrov and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-06-05 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arctic region contains large amounts of natural resources considered necessary to sustain global economic growth, so it is unsurprising that it is increasingly susceptible to political, economic, environmental, and even military conflicts. This book looks in detail at the preconditions and outlook for international cooperation on the development of Arctic petroleum resources, focusing on Norwegian–Russian cooperation in the Barents Sea towards 2025. The authors provide a cross-disciplinary approach including geopolitical, institutional, technological, corporate and environmental perspectives to analyse the underlying factors that shape the future development of the region. Three future scenarios are developed, exploring various levels of cooperation and development influenced by and resulting from potential political, commercial and environmental circumstances. Through these scenarios, the book improves understanding of the challenges and opportunities for Arctic petroleum resource development and promotes further consideration of the possible outcomes of future cooperation. The book should be of interest to students, scholars and policy-makers working in the areas of Arctic studies, oil and gas studies, energy security, global environmental governance, environmental politics and environmental technology.
