PREFACE: This hand book is written with the view of putting within reach of all interested, a comprehensive but brief review of the oil and gas industry of Oklahoma, and the prospects for the future development of this industry. A large portion of the book is taken up with descriptions of the producing fields and discussions of the conditions in these fields. The geology of the State is considered with reference to the occurrence of oil and gas in the developed areas and with reference to the probable or possible occur rence of these substances in other portions of the State. The methods of prospecting for oil and gas and the use of geology as a guide for prospecting are considered rather fully. Some items of general interest, such as brief notes on transportation and refining, are included. In the con sideration of the oil and gas of the different fields it is necessary to refer constantly to the geo

Book Power Hungry

Download or read book Power Hungry written by Robert Bryce and published by PublicAffairs. This book was released on 2011-04-26 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The promise of "green jobs" and a "clean energy future" has roused the masses. But as Robert Bryce makes clear in this provocative book, that vision needs a major re-vision. We cannot -- and will not -- quit using carbon-based fuels at any time in the near future for a simple reason: they provide the horsepower that we crave. The hard reality is that oil, coal, and natural gas are here to stay. Fueling our society requires more than sentiment and rhetoric; we need to make good decisions and smart investments based on facts. In Power Hungry, Bryce provides a supertanker-load of footnoted facts while shepherding readers through basic physics and math. And with the help of a panoply of vivid graphics and tables, he crushes a phalanx of energy myths, showing why renewables are not green, carbon capture and sequestration won't work, and even -- surprise! -- that the U.S. is leading the world in energy efficiency. He also charts the amazing growth of the fuels of the future: natural gas and nuclear. Power Hungry delivers a clear-eyed view of what America has "in the tank," and what's needed to transform the gargantuan global energy sector.

Book An Evaluation of Known Remaining Oil Resources in the State of Oklahoma

Download or read book An Evaluation of Known Remaining Oil Resources in the State of Oklahoma written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) has conducted a series of studies to evaluate the known, remaining oil resource in twenty-three (23) states. The primary objective of die IOGCC's effort is to examine the potential impact of an aggressive and focused program of research, development, and demonstration (RD & D) and technology transfer on future oil recovery in the United States. As part of a larger effort by the IOGCC, this report focuses on the potential economic benefits of improved oil recovery in the state of Oklahoma. Individual reports for seven other oil producing states and a national report have been separately published by the IOGCC. Several major technical insights for state and Federal policymakers and regulators can be reached from this analysis. Overall, well abandonments and more stringent environmental regulations could limit economic access to Oklahoma's known, remaining oil resource. The high risk of near-term abandonment and the significant benefits of future application of improved oil recovery technoloy, clearly point to a need for more aggressive transfer of currently available technologies to domestic oil producers. Development and application of advanced oil recovery technologies could leave even greater benefits to the nation. A collaborative, focused RD & D effort, integrating the resources and expertise of industry, state and local governments, and the Federal government, is clearly warranted. With effective RD & D and a program of aggressive technology transfer to widely disseminate its results, Oklahoma oil production could be maximized. The resulting increase and improvement in production rates, employment, operator profits, state and Federal tax revenues, energy security will benefit both the state of Oklahoma and the nation as a whole.
