Book excerpt: Love, loss, pain, anger, light, darkness… the human condition is as vast as it is varied. With such powerful feelings, is it possible that we leave imprints around us? If that is true, what would these echoes of ourselves sound like? echo explores the lives of several people from different times and places, each with their own history and experience, who become drawn to a mysterious clearing in the woods outside of Seattle. Each leaves their own echo – echoes of fear, joy, love and anguish. One young being, called simply “echo,” is left to explore her new home in the mountain, with other echoes of people long past. These spirit-like beings live on, in a new existence that mirrors our own. Through echo’s eyes, the question “does our echo have an echo” is answered.

Book excerpt: My life has been a series of broken promises and shattered hopes. At fifteen, I've been through more than most people could handle—abuse, neglect, and the haunting memory of my father's fentanyl overdose. Every place I've called home has been just another lie, another echo of despair. Now I'm at Bright Future Group Home, and I can't help but be cynical. Safety and belonging? Sure. But then I meet Gabriel Lopez. He's kind, patient, and he sees something in me that I thought was long gone. Falling for him is unexpected, but it's the first time I've felt something real, something worth holding onto. But this place has its own shadows. Derrick Mason, another resident, has dark secrets that threaten to drag me back into the abyss. School is a daily battle, and the group home is a minefield. The art room becomes my sanctuary, where I can escape into my drawings, and the garden offers a brief respite from the chaos. My struggles are more than just about finding a place to belong. I grapple with the abuse I've suffered, the cultural roots I feel detached from, and the fact that I'm gay in a world that hasn't been kind. The echoes of my past are always there, reminding me of every broken promise and every ounce of pain. "Echoes" is my story—a fight against the despair that clings to me, a journey to find trust and love in the midst of chaos. Gabriel is my anchor, but Derrick's secrets and my own fears are powerful forces. Can I overcome the shadows of my past and find a future worth fighting for? Join me on this raw and powerful journey through the echoes of my life, where love, pain, and the search for belonging intertwine. This isn't just about surviving—it's about finding the strength to truly live.

But now its convulsions threaten to destroy the safe little community I and my fellow survivors have built in an untouched wilderness. I can't let that happen. Maybe it's the cop in me or the Army veteran in me, but I need to take action. By going inside the parallel world known as the Echo. A hell full of ravenous beasts. I can't do it alone, though. And the only person I'll risk taking with me is Erin Harding, a former Marine who's also a loose cannon. The fact that I'm attracted to her only makes our mission more dangerous. Because I can barely restrain my lust for Erin. But I will never let her know that. To save Earth, we must penetrate the heart of the Echo and somehow seize control of it. Piece of cake. It's not like we have no idea how to do that. Yeah, we're all screwed. Echo Dominion is the second book in the Echo Power Trilogy of dark, steamy paranormal romances. Coming soon in audio narrated by Connor Crais & Lucy Rivers.

Book Proceedings in Echo Encephalography

Download or read book Proceedings in Echo Encephalography written by E. Kazner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The investigation of the brain by means of ultrasound has acquired increasing importance in the last years because it permits insight into the spatial relationships within the intact human skull in a short time without endangering the patient. The road from the first ultra sonic investigations on the exposed brain to the detection of intracranial midline shifts on the intact skull, the registration of echo pulsations and recently, to ultrasonotomography has been a long one already. However, this development is by no means at an end. Following the suggestion of numerous colleagues concerned with echo-encephalography in this country and abroad, the Neurosurgical Clinic of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg organized an "International Symposium on Echo-Encephalography" on April 14th and 15th, 1967. Here there was an open exchange of experience on the results obtained up to the present. The limitations of the method and sources of error as well as the directions of future development of the ultrasonic echo procedure were discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few issues have caused the church more difficulty through the ages than those surrounding the human body. Throughout much of Christian history, spiritual seekers have considered the body to be, at best, a hindrance to spiritual enlightenment, and, at worst, an enemy to be suppressed. Many of our contemporary negative preoccupations with physical appearance, image, and sexuality derive from this ancient and habitual denial of the notion that we were created in God's image. In Echo of the Soul bestselling author J. Philip Newell finds that the human body, like creation, is actually the dwelling place of God. Using the Old Testament Wisdom literature, which informed Celtic spirituality's positive understanding of what it means to be human, Newell looks at each part of the body as a sacred text that reveals something of the Divine. Looking back to a time before Christians began to distrust their physicality, Newell shows that our most ancient texts challenge modern assumptions about love, beauty, sexuality, learning, wisdom, power, and responsibility, and bridges the body/spirit divide.

Book excerpt: When a man speaks words against or in favor of another man, whether he knows it or not, he is speaking those very same words against or in favor of himself. The Bible tells us to do unto others the things that we would want done unto us or in our behalf. Well, that is the very same principle that God set down with words. What we say to others should be what we would want said to us. And whether we want them to or not they will come to pass in our lives. There is a law of nature that says that when you plant a seed you will, in time, reap a harvest. Just so, when you speak a word, since your word is a seed, you will reap a harvest. Given the right amount of time you will reap what you sow. Jesus said that if you had faith and you wanted that faith to grow plant it and it will grow. Jesus gave you seeds for whatever you need, they are called words. But you decide; are your words going to be good or bad? Either way they will grow and you will reap what you sow.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Cunningly crafted. . . . France’s unquiet histories are brought to life by a master storyteller.” —Financial Times (UK) A story of resistance, complicity, and an unlikely, transformative friendship, set in Paris, from internationally bestselling novelist Sebastian Faulks. American historian Hannah intends to immerse herself in World War II research in Paris, wary of paying much attention to the city where a youthful misadventure once left her dejected. But a chance encounter with Tariq, a Moroccan teenager whose visions of the City of Lights as a world of opportunity and rebirth starkly contrast with her own, disrupts her plan. Hannah agrees to take Tariq in as a lodger, forming an unexpected connection with the young man. Yet as Tariq begins to assimilate into the country he risked his life to enter, he realizes that its dark past and current ills are far more complicated than he’d anticipated. And Hannah, diving deeper into her work on women’s lives in Nazi-occupied Paris, uncovers a shocking piece of history that threatens to dismantle her core beliefs. Soon they each must question which sacrifices are worth their happiness and what, if anything, the tumultuous past century can teach them about the future. From the sweltering streets of Tangier to deep beneath Paris via the Metro, from the affecting recorded accounts of women in German-occupied France and into the future through our hopes for these characters, Paris Echo offers a tough and poignant story of injustices and dreams.
