Book The Dynamics of Market Integration

Download or read book The Dynamics of Market Integration written by Kenneth Kaoma Mwenda and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2000 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at contemporary issues facing financial markets in Eastern and Southern Africa. The book addresses strategies for capital market integration and development on a region-wide basis. An argument is made that the establishment of a regional stock exchange and the promotion of multiple listings and cross-border trade in securities would stimulate increased liquidity on national stock exchanges in Eastern and Southern Africa. Lessons of experience are drawn from other regions and a case is made against transplanting models of a regional stock exchange from one region to another. The book argues that African countries may, however, use lessons of experience from other regions as points of reference, while pursuing their own discourse of self-determination. Each case is unique and is thus surrounded by different variables. The book covers developments in regions such as the European Union, francophone West Africa and Eastern and Southern Africa. Indeed, an international and comparative perspective is provided.

Book The Dynamics of Asian Financial Integration

Download or read book The Dynamics of Asian Financial Integration written by Michael Devereux and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2011-05-03 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ongoing global financial crisis has manifested a remarkable degree of global financial integration—and its implications—for emerging Asian financial markets. The current crisis will not and should not deter the progress that the region has made toward financial openness and integration. However, events like this clearly demonstrate that financial liberalization and integration is not without risks. Hence, emerging Asian economies' growing financial ties have motivated us to look closer at the repercussions of increased financial integration and evaluate the benefits of risk sharing and better access to international capital markets against the costs of cross-border financial contagion. The crisis also presents a timely opportunity for the region’s policy makers to rethink their strategies for financial deregulation and liberalization and to reconsider a next step to integrate emerging East Asia’s financial markets further. However, doing so requires deeper understanding of financial market integration. While much has been said in both academic and policy circles about financial globalization and regional financial integration as separate areas of study, existing research has been relatively silent on the dynamics between these two distinctive forces. The book addresses this gap in financial literature and assesses financial integration in emerging East Asia at both regional and global levels. The publication studies the factors driving the progress of regional financial integration in relation to financial globalization and identifies the relevant policy challenges facing emerging market economies in the region. Chapters look into three broad aspects of regional and global financial market integration: (i) measurement of regional and global financial integration, (ii) understanding dynamics of regional financial integration versus global financial integration, and (iii) welfare implications from regional financial market integration amid financial globalization. Against this context, academics, policy makers, and other readers will appreciate the rigorous research contribution provided by the book.

Book The Dynamics of Emerging Stock Markets

Download or read book The Dynamics of Emerging Stock Markets written by Mohamed El Hedi Arouri and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-24 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emerging markets have received a particular attention of academic researchers and practitioners since they decided to open their domestic capital markets to foreign participants about three decades ago. At the same time, we remark that theoretical and empirical research in emerging stock markets has been particularly challenged by their fast changes in nature and size under the effects of financial liberalization and reforms. This evolving feature has particularly led to a commensurate increase in sophistication of modeling techniques used for understanding financial markets. In this spirit, the book aims at providing the audience a comprehensive understanding of emerging stock markets in various aspects using modern financial econometric methods. It addresses the empirical techniques needed by economic agents to analyze the dynamics of these markets and illustrates how they can be applied to the actual data. On the other hand, it presents and discusses new research findings and their implications.

Book Agricultural Market Integration in India

Download or read book Agricultural Market Integration in India written by Michal Andrle and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2020-07-03 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We assess the degree of cross-market price discrepancy (a proxy for market integration), its evolution over time, and proximate determinants, using monthly price data for 21 agricultural goods and 60 markets in India. Econometric analysis shows that cross-market price integration is positively associated with the level of transportation infrastructure, and distance between market pairs. There is no robust evidence that price integration has increased in recent years, suggesting that any positive effects of recent policy initiatives are either small, outweighed by the identified determinants of integration, or yet to come.

Book Dynamics of Equity Market Integration in Europe

Download or read book Dynamics of Equity Market Integration in Europe written by Cal B. Muckley and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike most prior literature in finance and economics, this paper focuses on events in the political economy and examines the integration of European equity markets over the 1988 through 2002 period using three innovative techniques that assesses how the level of integration in equity price levels changes over time. The results show that notwithstanding the rising interdependencies between the European and US equity market until the mid-1990s, the long run integrative relationships governing the European markets began to strengthen only in the late 1990s and in particular since 1997. This evidence suggests that despite several years of political willingness by European leaders to integrate economies, it was not until the Treaty of Amsterdam and the establishment of the European Central Bank that the markets deemed that European integration would in fact occur.

Book International Market Integration

Download or read book International Market Integration written by Amir Akbari and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Market integration is a canonical topic in international finance. The question of whether and to what extent markets are integrated with the global economy has motivated one of the largest literature in this field. Given the vast literature, this survey focuses only on equity market integration and provides an overview of its theoretical and empirical research. It reviews the evolution of various approaches employed in studying market integration. This survey discusses the recent empirical findings on cross-sectional and time-series dynamics of integration across developed and emerging markets. It also describes the empirical estimation of three current measures of market integration and discusses their limitations. Finally, the survey provides a few future directions for this line of research.
